The AC Hotel by Marriott Washington DC Capitol Hill Navy Yard offers a modern and spacious setting that is highly appreciated by guests, though disruptions due to noise are occasionally mentioned. While service is generally acclaimed for its professionalism and warmth, there are reports of sporadic lapses. Cleanliness is another strong point, albeit with some concerns over inconsistent room upkeep.
Rooms are modern and often boast pleasing views, but noise can be an issue. The value proposition is debated, with some guests feeling amenities like parking and breakfast are overpriced. Amenities are mostly well-received, despite some criticisms, and the hotel's location earns praise for its convenience and ease of access to local attractions.

Detailed Reviews
Let’s get the not so good out of the way first. I understand that in this post Covid time help can be had to find, so that can add to room cleaning issues. However, when you offer coffee in the room you need to have cream, sugar and a stirrer. You also need both decaf and regular and more than one of each. The bathroom is very nicely done and clean, however, checking items such as the tissues and toilet paper should not be too much to ask. Now for the good. The staff was very friendly. Check inn was simple and fast. The room was large, clean, and had plenty of amenities. Power outlets and USB plug-in on both sides of the bed. The location is great for anything you might want to do in Navy years. A Whole Foods right across the street and a metro stop just a few blocks away.

This hotel is not suitable for people with chemical sensitivities (or anyone who cares what they smell like) since the rooms have a pervasive, penitrating smell of chemical perfume. I suffered from sinusitis and a related sore throat, and had to shower and wash everything I had with me in the room when I got home.
There was also the second hand smell of cooked steak in the hallway after the restaruant opened - the intake vent must be sucking in the exhaust from the restaraunt.
There are several really good restaurants within a mile, so I did not try the hotel's Smoke & Mirrors except for breakfast.
There is a large well equipped weight lifting/exercise room in the building next door serving the hotel and the appartments in the building. This is right on the street - look your best! It includes professional punching bags if work is getting to you.
A woman might be nervous walking across the deserted streets alone at night, but the area seems to have recently recovered from the history of serious criminal activity before urban renewal. Most of the people in the homeless camp under the elevated highway across the street have been removed for now as the City tries to find them decent housing.

My stay here was very laidback & relaxing. I was here with my family for a slight vacation.
Me and my family came to breakfast on the 11th floor Saturday , and it was 13 of us. Ray was our attendant, she was very helpful and she had such a lovely smile. So awesome to see that so early in the morning. She showed me around the restaurant and buffet before my family arrived. She explained to me that the breakfast was $19 per person and that we could serve ourselves. As my family arrived Ray helped us put our tables together so we could sit as one group.
We went into the buffet room and started to prepare our plates and a short lady with wavy hair which appeared to be a supervisor was very distasteful with how she talked to me.
I saw a meat cutting machine and I thought that in was in use for the guests but apparently it wasn’t. The lady said”please don’t touch that” and it was the way she said it that had me startled because it’s a better way to say things to guests. She also was rude to other guests as well. I asked Ray who she was and she said it was their supervisor and immediately that turned me away from wanting to stay here again. But overall it’s a nice hotel and breakfast was great.

Ever since Marriott launched the AC brand over ten years ago I deliberately selected this hotel chain over others for two main comfortability reasons 1) the simple yet modern decor plus no carpet in rooms
2) centralized location, customer service, accurate billing, cleanliness, and amenities are additional factors to consider as standard for Marriott properties . I travel frequently for business and leisure. I seek new hotels that do not have the wear and tear of older properties.
I chose AC Navy Yard for the comfortability, location, proximity to Capitol. I assumed
the service would be friendly, room would be clean, and accurate billing. The shower was not clean and had brown stains on the wall which is disgusting especially for a newly opened property that is less than six months old. The coffee machine trays are not wiped down and were stained which is also repulsive.
Check in time is at 3pm but my room wasn’t ready until hours later. No fitness center on site but there is access to one directly across from the hotel. The rooftop hotel restaurant, Smoke and Mirrors, seems to prioritize non-hotel guests which caused me to venture off site for food because Navy Yard is full of food options within walking distance. Lastly my room was charged for valet I did not use. Odd because I was there for four nights but the error only happened on the first night. Now I have to wait 7 days for a refund on my corporate card. Yes I told the front desk about the late checkin and improper billing but I was on a business trip where these types of errors have consequences. An error happens instantly but resolution takes one week. This is unbelievable.
All of this indicates the management is not paying attention to detail. Do better.

AC Hotel by Marriott is a relatively new hotel in an up and coming neighborhood. This is a very convenient location being only a 10 minutes stroll from two Metro stops and walking distance to a number of good restaurants. Whole Foods across the street. Also very convenient on and off the highway without driving through Washington DC.
Modern designs, and lots of light. Very clean. The staff was uniformly friendly and eager to please. Though near to a highway, it was surprisingly quiet with the exception of the outdoor rooftop lounge/restaurant. The free wifi is a little slow, but just fine for a fun stay. If you are there on business, I suggest upgrading to the faster speed.
Check in was easy and quick and the fast and friendly valet service was a great welcoming to the hotel. No maid service unless “your stay is long enough”, but my small request about shampoo and towels was quickly honored. The restaurant, Smoke and Mirrors has a great view, but seems intent on building a reputation as an “in” spot for the young and hip crowd. It got busy on the weekend nights of our stay. As does the lobby bar. Breakfast needs a little work. Cold scrambled eggs are not pleasant, but the service is wonderful and overall the breakfast was satisfactory. The view from the rooftop lounge (11th Floor) is very nice. I strongly recommend this hotel as a base to tour The Smithsonian museums.

Used a suite upgrade to get a room with a view - which turned out to be a room with a view of the highway, building lot and a factory. Noisy - particularly since the entire room is laminate, metal and leather with no curtains or significant rug to absorb the noise. Windows on the side look into the next building and have no curtains just a mesh shade that feels very exposed. The toilet is a foot off the floor, and square, and just as uncomfortable as that sounds. I would say they were going for style but everything is beige and gray and it feels like a prison cell not a cool hotel. only pluses: good food in the restaurant and nice staff that tries hard to be welcoming in this very unwelcoming building.

Renters beware. I stayed at this hotel as I attended the AUSA Exposition in Washington DC in October 2024. I had enough points for a free 3 nights stay. All was good after my 5:15 AM check out on the last day. At least that's what | thought, I was ambushed a day later with a $500 bill, and accused of burning the trash in my room, a bold faced lie! I of course was furious and demanded an explanation of what the what? There was never a time when I burned anything in that room, or lit a match ignited a lighter…nothing. I was told initially they had to call the fire department for smoke being reported. Then, I was told the maid found the trash can with burned debris in it. I requested a review of who entered my room after I left, and a timeline of when allegedly smoke was reported and when the fire department was called and arrived on site. More than two weeks later they still won't give me anything but, "our room lock audit shows no one entered the room after your check out." There is some shady behavior occurring at this hotel. This whole incident is bizarre and terrifying at the same time. The idea, that someone on that staff feels comfortable enough to lie on a patron about something this serious, and knows they will get away with because their management will not do a real investigation of this accusation. The realization that I spent three nights in this hotel with someone on staff unstable enough to go so far as to light a fire in that trash can, and to blame me for it. This property has ensured I will avoid Marriott going forward in my remaining travels. I thought hard about whether or not to post this review, I am honestly not trying to flex when I say paying them $500 isn’t a big deal to me. I posted this review because, I want a public record of my experience, so that if the person at that hotel ends up hurting someone as a result of their deviant behavior. The management of that hotel, can be held accountable, because I alerted them to the fact they have someone on their staff capable of this, and they chose to do nothing.

Part of the reason we stayed at this hotel was the ability to catch a Metro train to the convention center for a volleyball tournament. The station was a quick 10-minute safe and easy walk from the hotel.
But...
1. The $57 per day charge for parking also has $10+ of taxes added to it.
2. It doesn't matter what time you check-in, you get charged another day if your vehicle is there past 1 PM. The signs outside list rates as being for 24 hours.
3. The Valets are, to be kind, not friendly. They are also understaffed.
4. During checkout it took 30 minutes to get my car, and I followed the process the requested of sending a text to them with the tag number.
5. The hotel staff will tell you that even if they wanted to help you out they don't control the parking. That little piece of information isn't on thier webiste or any physical signs that I saw at the hotel. And I think the Valets had Marriott tags (but not 100% sure).
To be fair the other staff (front desk, housekeeping, downstairs bar) did a great job and the room was clean and comfortable. The upstairs restaurant pretty much acted like they didn't want a volleyball Dad and his daughter there, so we left.
Whole Foods being next door was a perk - but be warned that if you want to get dinner there most of the hot food is gone at least an hour before closing time.

I have stayed here many times but when I checked out this morning decided it will be my last visit. If you are visiting Navy Yard for work or fun, you can't beat the convenience of this hotel but the towels will make you think you're staying at a rundown motor lodge on the interstate. After a recent stay with my staff, one of my team members said he wouldn't even wash his dog with the towels they were that bad. It's a shame the management won't update the towels and linens to match the expensive price of the rooms. As a Titanium Elite Bonvoy member, I certainly expect better from an AC. Sad that I won't be able to stay here anymore because it's very close to my DC office but don't need hotel towels that are so worn they are like sandpaper.

Very accomodating, allowed early check in and gave us a quiet room away from highway and rooftop bar/restaurant as requested. Hotel has its own "street" between it and another building, making unloading the car so easy. Valet parking was quick and convenient. Smoke and Mirrors restaurant on top floor has great views of the Capitol. This is where they set up coffee and a wonderful breakfast buffet in the morning. Loved the waterfall shower.
