The Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC/U.S. Capitol garners positive remarks for its cleanliness and room layouts that enhance guests' stays. Its range of amenities, including a pool and fitness center, are often praised, although some visitors have mentioned additional costs. While the staff's friendliness and attentiveness are noted, service inconsistencies have been a concern. The hotel's rooms receive mixed reviews, with some guests finding them to be clean and spacious, whereas others point out maintenance issues. The atmosphere blends modernity with hospitality, yet instances of outdated decor are noted. The hotel was clean, the neighborhood was a little colorful but I didn't feel threatened walking around even at midnight. There is a McDonalds and Dunkins nearby as well as some sandwich shops next door. Harris Teeter and CVS down the block. The pool was not mentioned on the website, luckily I had the kids bring bathing suits anyway as it rained one day. The Metro, Capital and National Mall are within an easy walk. The valet and housekeeping staff were friendly. The only thing negative I have to say was that the front desk staff were not friendly or welcoming at all. Only one person had a cheerful personality and was helpful. The business center did not work at all during the visit even after reporting it. Valet is $50/night but there is no self-parking and this is typical downtown.

Excellent hotel, reasonably priced, even during the NAFSA convention. Short walk to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Hotel was clean and staff was most helpful and friendly. I picked this hotel because of the reasonable price, location, and especially the ease of getting to the Metro Silver Line, which is just across the street! I'll stay here again!

I had a lovely stay at the Hilton Garden Inn in NoMA, DC, even though it was just for one night. The hotel offers great amenities, including an indoor pool and hot tub—features I wish I had researched beforehand so I could have planned to use them.

The highlight of my visit was the restaurant/lounge on the second floor. Dre, the bartender and waitress, was an absolute delight. She suggested the calamari and crab dip as two of the best appetizers on the menu, and she was spot on—they were delicious! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her while we ate dinner at the bar. Her kindness and attentiveness really stood out; when I mentioned not having a wallet for a concert later that evening, she generously gave me a Dollar Tree wallet, which was such a thoughtful gesture.

Access to the hotel after midnight was also a breeze—just a quick flash of our room key at the door, and we were in.

Overall, this hotel is a gem. The friendly and attentive staff, coupled with great amenities and a cozy dining experience, make it a place I’ll definitely return to on my next trip to DC. Highly recommend!

My husband, daughter, and I booked a double bedroom months ago at this hotel since my daughter has a volleyball tournament in DC. When we went to check in, 4 hours after the check in time, since we had just flown in from Detroit. The staff, and ultimately the manager, informed us that they hotel was completely booked, and they could no longer check us into for the hotel room that we had reserved since there were no rooms with double beds available, and we have to take what they had available. They said just because we booked a hotel and pay a deposit, does not mean we are entitled to the hotel room we reserved. We were not the only people who received this message. The only thing available was a king size bed, but no pull out beds were available. They committed that if we took this room, that the next day once people checked out, they would move us to a double room. For us all to sleep, we slept horizon on our king size bed, with our feet hanging over due to our height. My husband in the middle of the night moved to a chair, and slept in a chair for the evening. We also requested a 3 towel that never arrived, and no one on the service line picked up. Per their commitment, the next morning my husband went down to the desk to have us to get moved to the room we reserved. There was nothing available still, not until a gentleman walked in as my husband was working with the staff person on finding us a room, and cancelled his reservation. At that time, a double room became available. We moved rooms immediately since we had a tournament we had to go to, and we could not be late. Upon arriving back to our room after the tournament, we had to walk up the stairs since the EMS was at our hotel due to the fact that the elevator was not working, and a man was stuck in the elevator. I am unsure how this hotel meets code since the security guard was unaware of where the stair case was located. Fortunately, a staff person was able to direct us and other hotel guests through the kitchen, and up a stair case, that allowed us to go upstairs to our rooms since both elevators in the hotel was shut down to rescue the family stuck in the elevator that stopped working. After returning to the room, our daughter discovered that the shower was not working properly. We called maintenance, they arrived quickly, but the maintenance person said he was the only one working, and did not know how to fix it, and he would return the next morning with another person. My daughter rinsed off. No one came back the next morning. Luckily my husband is handy, and was able to fix the shower temporarily so the family could take showers. The hotel is dirty and non-functioning. We would have moved the next morning, but our daughter was tired and to keep it simple, asked we just stay one day, and then check out after the tournament was done, and we were not in the room long anyways. There are plenty of hotels in DC. I would 100% propose you not waste your money and energy to stay at this hotel, when there are other options.

This is easily the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The staff at reception are hostile and disinterested, when we asked to leave our cases we were told no and given a blank stare. When we checked in, the staff were too busy having a conversation to acknowledge us, when they did we were again given a blank stare and an attitude and had the hotel rules barked at us. There was a fire alarm test at 5:45am and when I called reception to ask if it was real they laughed at me, as if it was a strange question to ask why a fire alarm would be tested at 5:45am. The hotel is outdated and dirty, the rooms are filthy. Our shower gel was empty and wasn’t replenished despite asking 3 times, our sheets were also stained and likely not changed from previous guests. The elevator was broken and we had to walk up the stairs to the 13th floor. The gym is poor, one bench and a row of dumbbells and I would value my health too much to venture in to the swimming pool. The lady who worked in the bar was lovely and the only person who was nice to us the entire time. The only good thing is the view from your room on the higher floors you can see the capitol building and it’s right beside the metro and a supermarket, other than that I wish I’d booked citizen M across the street. Also, you pay a $300 security deposit on check in (the highest we’ve paid in our entire trip across the east coast) and I have no idea why since the collective value of things in that room are nowhere near $300. Avoid at all costs.

As a Hilton Silver member, Hilton/Hampton Inn has always been my preferred hotel to stay for trips. The last 3 trips we have stayed, we had a great experience but this last one left a little to be desired. When we arrived at check in, we noticed that the water stations were empty, but being it’s near a holiday (NYE), I didn’t make a big deal. The following day, I saw the drink station had been switched out for coffee and hot water, but when I walked over to get tea, there were no tea bags. It’s possible it may have been the time of day I went to the drink station, so I attempted to make coffee in my room. The coffee machine ended up being broken, which was another let down. By this time I had given it up. We went to inquire about adding breakfast to our stay as it has not included, but were told that the kitchen would be shut down for at least 2 days, only to discover later that breakfast service had taken place and the kitchen was not closed. We were very disappointed by that as we had intended it add it to our stay. We did, however, enjoy the service and hospitality shown by the bartender named Kevon (Von) which helped with some of the experience we had been having. He was very knowledgeable about the city and personable. I’m hoping that we definitely have an improved experience the next time we choose to stay at a Hilton/Hampton Inn.

One of the elevators was broken during the stay and it made getting to the room very difficult. There were homeless people in front of the door blocking the entrance. There was a half gallon of milk left in the fridge from the previous stay, which gave the room a smell. I am concern that the room was not cleaned throughly due to the fridge not being cleaned out. The bathtub kept backing up during showers which made for a puddle of water accumulating. As a vacation, it was very disappointing and made for a less than pleasurable experience. The amenities were also dirty! The hot tub was dirty and also lacked cleaning. The cleaning people did not come and clean the room or replace towels or take the trash. My husband had to go downstairs to get towels for my family and due to the broken elevator it took a very long time. It was very disappointing as a person who is a faithful Hilton customer, it was beyond disappointing.

I am dissatisfied with my experience at your hotel. Prior to making my reservation, I had the expectation that all Hilton chain hotels worldwide maintained a consistent level of quality.

Despite paying a premium and pre-booking Early Check-in through Booking.com, I did not receive this service. The staff at your hotel displayed a lack of friendliness towards customers. It often required multiple reminders to have requests fulfilled, and they frequently appeared in an unfriendly and irritable mood.

Additionally, the room heater in my accommodation was malfunctioning. I reported the issue to the Receptionist Desk, but it took several phone calls and some persistence on my part before someone finally came to address the problem. Regrettably, the heater began malfunctioning again on the second day. Furthermore, the daily provision of coffee and decaffeinated milk in the room was inconsistent.

I found the majority of your staff to be consistently impolite to customers. However, I must acknowledge the positive interactions with only two of your employees: the lady responsible for room service and a gentleman involved in housekeeping.

The place is a dump. When you arrive, you run a gauntlet of people just hanging around smoking weed by the front door. The whole place smells of it to varrying degrees.

If you plan on doing laundry during your stay, bring your own change. There's no change machine, It also costs more than stated on the machine and the front desk may or may not give you quarters depending on who's working.

There's no room cleaning, toilet paper or fresh towels unless you ask and keep asking. There's a Keurig machine but you have to bring your own coffee. The refrigerator is only slightly above room temperature, so be careful with what you put in there and for how long. There was an iron and board as well as hair dryer. The bathroom vent fan didn't work. There's also a small microwave.

You have to bag your own garbage and they'll pick it up during the day outside your door.

Many buttons in the elevator don't work, but if you stay long enough you'll get the hang of it and can start training the new guests.

Although the room is pretty clean and bug free, the windows are dirty. There's nothing to put your suitcases on except the floor. Our room had no table and one chair.

There's a decent selection of overpriced junk food and soda in the lobby, but the freezer is empty and broken, so no late night ice cream binging.

The tv provides basic cable only with no guide. No pay per view option. No USB ports.

Staff for the most part is apologetic and friendly.

Valley parking is $43.00 per night and the guys are very nice.

The Lilley and cactus was open and we found the food very good.

Wouldn't stay at another Hilton after this.

We recently completed a 5 night stay at this property.
The location combined with price point is what attracted us to this spot. We were not disappointed. The subway station is just around the corner from the hotel. It is only one stop away from Union Station which was fantastic as we took the train in! Next to Union Station is Capitol Hill!
Our first day there the air con in our room was weak. They sent an engineer up to inspect it and offered us another room - which was much cooler!
The staff is super friendly. Every day we were greeted with a hello.
The price point combined with convenient location with the bonus of excellent staff makes this a solid choice for a family looking for a convenient spot with a moderate price point.
Oh - and it has laundry! 2 bucks for a wash and 2 bucks for a dry! A bonus bonus when you're travelling with kids....or just want to wear your favourite shorts again!

Since valet parking is expensive and street parking non-existent at the hotel, using the Metro (DC Subway system) is your fastest way to get up and about DC. There is also a bus called the DC circulator which has various pickup and drop off stops around the national mall. So, if you get a Smartrip card (the DC rechargeable metro transit farecard) you can basically use the metro subway to one of the DC Circulator buses and hop on and off to the various monuments. Check out the metro wmata site on the web and plan your trips, or you can use the googlemaps. The DC transit system is very safe day and night just in case you have concerns about using public transportation.

It does depend on what airport. I don’t believe the hotel itself offers any sort of shuttle service. I flew in and out of BWI this time and took a cab from the airport...about $100. Took a train back for $7.
