The Citizenm Washington Dc Capitol hotel garners praise for its cleanliness and stylish, modern atmosphere. While the rooms are recognized for their efficient, high-tech design, guests have called out concerns regarding their small size and climate control issues. Service experiences vary, with reports of both commendable and disappointing interactions with staff.
The prime location near attractions and transport is a highlight for many travelers, though some wish for more dining and shopping options nearby. However, the value proposition is questioned by guests who find the rooms overpriced and encounter additional fees.

Detailed Reviews
It was average. Our first room the tv didn’t work, the front desk people were very helpful about it and got us changed Over to a new room fast. The bathroom is just super small and the sink is out the bathroom because that’s how small it is. Also the app is a little confusing to work with, it doesn’t tell you the times the room will be cleaned just the days. We didn’t want someone early in our room so we clicked no cleaning service but called them around noon and they said someone could come clean it. We were out all day and came home to a room that was not cleaned. Other than that the blackout curtains are the best invention ever and the bed and shower are nice.

My spouse and I are over 50 and this is not the place for us, but if your in 20s or early 30’s you would be more than fine. The staff were friendly & helpful and the hotel is hip and feels like something out of a comic book. The rooms are run, TV, heat & air, lights, curtains, by using an iPad which was cool. When we asked for more pillows they were promptly delivered and the room was clean and the mattress was good. Unfortunately the room was not cool because the A/C went out and we were not offered a discount despite our discomfort. The roof top bar was very nice, the views were amazing and the bar staff were skilled. And now why it is fine for younger people but not older. The room we were in is a little over 7 ft wide and the king size bed goes from one side to another. This means that the person closest to the window has to climb over the other person to get out of the bed to go to the bathroom. Old folks go to the bathroom during the night. There is no vent fan in the bathroom and the bathroom room is in the same 7ft wide space with glass separating the shower and toilet from the room. So there is no bathroom privacy. The parking garage next door charges over $40.00 per night and is not affiliated with the hotel, so factor that into your stay and costs analysis. If you are there by yourself, you are fine. If you are young it is going to be fine. We enjoyed our night, but would not recommend it for more than one night in our situation.

I travel frequently for business and had to fly to Washington DC for several meetings. I must say I’m highly impressed with my overall experience at the CitizenM— this was my first time staying at one of their hotels. As soon as you walk into the hotel, you immediately experience a hotel check-in unlike any other hotel. The process was extremely streamlined and fast. I arrived at 11:30AM and had to wait until about 1PM to receive a room. The hotel ambassadors were extremely nice and willing to store by luggage while I waited for an available room.
The most convenient part of this hotel is the fact that it’s only one block away from L’Enfant Plaza subway station. I flew in from DCA and the subway ride to the hotel was approximately 15 mins. While waiting for my room, I explored the area, as the Capital Building, National Gallery of Art, National Air and Space Museum are all less than a mile away from the hotel.
The hotel room itself was absolutely fantastic and modern, probably the cleanest room I’ve ever stayed in. I stayed on the 7th floor overlooking School Street. The KingXL bed was extremely comfortable, the lighting in the room was awesome, the shower was perfect, A/C was working great, and the lights, TV, climate, etc could be controlled either via your phone or the iPad that’s in the room. I must say that there are trains in the area that will make noise, if you want a slightly quieter room I suggest to request a room that’s not facing School Street.
Another excellent amenity of this hotel is the workout facility located on the second floor. There was four treadmills, a Concept2 rowing machine, ample weights and other various equipment. The workout facility also has a water bottle refill station and two restrooms. Furthermore on the second floor was approximately 8 or 9 extremely modern meeting rooms, perfect for any board meetings.
Overall, I was extremely satisfied with my stay at the CitizenM and I certainly will be staying here again if I need a hotel in Washington DC!

Pros:
The staff (Taylor,Chris and Nigel) were very professional and the hotel is conveniently located near the national mall and other attractions.
The hotel is cute for younger solo or couple travelers but the rooms are small. The dining/bar area seems lively and fun but there are no microwaves and limited free filtered water for guests.
Cons:
I was worried that I would for sure catch COVID after seeing my unsanitary bedding in 3 different rooms.
I arrived on a Thursday and was told that during the stay, housekeeping will not come to clean rooms unless it was requested. I didn't have an issue with that as I came with my own cleaning disinfectant/wipes and planned to request fresh sheets.
On Friday, housekeeping arrived unexpected and I asked for sheets and towels but was just given towels.
On Saturday morning, I went to pull up the sheets so that housekeeping would change them and the wool-like fitted sheet that they have covering the mattress was stained in several areas with brown colored spots, hair strands, crumbs and individual eyelash extensions.
I contacted the front desk immediately and informed them of the issue and requested a deep clean and to have the bedding replaced.
I left for a few hours and when I arrived back, the only thing that had changed was that my pillow cases and top sheet were fresh. I called again to complain and was moved to another room down the hall.
I checked the bedding immediately and found lighter spotting on the fitted sheet and a red/rusty stain on the top sheet. Tanya, the housekeeping manager was in the hall so I asked her in to see it and she stated she would get it fixed. I decided to call the front desk after not hearing from her and they decided to move me again. This time to the 4th floor. Same bedding stains plus the smell of urine/ residual urine stains behind the toilet in the bathroom.
At this point, I'd moved 3 hotel rooms and was late to a dinner. When I arrived back to the hotel around 8p, they moved me to the 11th floor and this room was cleaner but there was a small makeup stain on the comforter that I didn't see until later that evening. I was too exhausted to address it/move again.
It was my last night in DC and I wish they would have just deep cleaned my room as advertised/requested. Also, the heat takes about 45-50 minutes to go up a few degrees so don't shower until you've waited for it to warm up.

We were expecting more from CitizenM and are quite disappointed. When booking the room with my citizenm plus membership we chose a normal room, when we arrived we were not informed by staff or while booking that the only rooms left were accessible ones and that we would be getting one of those rather than what we had booked. We hadn't seen the room yet so we figured that it wouldn't be much different from the normal ones but we were very wrong. The room has an extremely difficult shower to work with and no LED lights. It was far from the trendy convenient rooms that we were expecting and what we booked online. The shower curtain did not cover the entire shower which led to water splashing all over the floors and a real lack of privacy with whomever you are staying with. And the room being accessible meant that there was only a small silicone strip to keep the water in the shower. That did not work, every time someone took a shower we had to worry about the bathroom practically flooding. Along with those issues our rooms AC did not work. We were unhappy with our room and informed staff but all they had offered to us was to change our room at 11 (check out) the next day. We had chosen a late checkout, but it didnt really matter. We had already been at the hotel for half a day and overnight and our stay was ruined. Overall this was a very disappointing stay at citizenM, I am strongly considering canceling my membership out of fear that issues like this will happen again. I hope that this is not a norm for this company.

The concept for this hotel product is good. I've spent many comfortable nights in European hotels working similar models. That was not the case for this hotel. For this trip I spent five nights on a business trip to DC.
CONS:
The room was seven feet wide, same as many Federal prison cells.
The hotel can accommodate about 600 guests when full, but the "breakfast buffet" area was about fifteen feet square.
The toilet paper holder was broken.
One bedside light was broken and hanging from its socket.
There was a ball of hair and dirt on the bathroom floor when I checked in.
There were yellow stains (urine? semen? orange juice?) on the bedsheet.
"Ambassadors" communications ranged from friendly to rude.
A 4-oz cup of coffee cost $4. No refills.
I requested my room be cleaned on the third night of my stay. It was cleaned the day before I checked out.
When I asked for fresh towels on day 3, the "Ambassador" had to leave the front desk, get towels from the linen storage, and give them to me on my floor.
There is no hotel parking.
PROS:
The rooftop bar/lounge was excellent with great views.
The gym was modern, clean, and very well equipped.
The "common rooms" were modern, well furnished, and had desktop computers.
The hotel is located a short walk from Capitol area, museums, and waterfront as well.
The rooms were soundproof.
The bed was comfortable. (But: a second guest would have had to clamber over me to use the bathroom at night.)

This hotel instantly caught my attention on HotelTonight not only with the under $100 price for my stay, but also with the modern design in & out of the rooms. It's clean, cute, cozy & affordable! Upon entry, I was immediately greeted by staff at the check-in desk who not only went through the traditional procedures to get me to my room but she also concisely provided in-depth information regarding the precautions that were in place to help maintain a corona free environment, which I appreciated learning about. I truly applaud this hotel on their evident dedication to providing an affordable yet beautiful lodging space.

Loved it Here! I stumbled upon citizenm hotel after doing research on hotels in Washington DC, and glad I choose this hotel to stay. JP who worked at the front Desk but I think usually works at the New York Location and Ian who is one of the managers who came from Seattle location gave us such a great experience just from their go above and beyond customer service. I hope these two get promoted! I never had better customer service to be completely honest. The room itself is beautiful and extremely clean. For a neat freak like me that blew my mind. I will definitely be telling ppl about this hotel and recommend it to everyone especially couples. Rooms are controlled entirely by a iPad and there are LED lights in the bathroom that set the mood. The hotel is just unique and will make u feel sad when you have to go home lol. Salute JP & big Salute to Ian. Can’t thank those two enough.

My room was clean and comfortable and the location couldn't be beat for the places I was visiting. I was able to walk to my destinations including the White House, Congressional office buildings, the Anthem theater, and several Smithsonian museums. I parked my rental car on the street and walked to my destinations as I did not want to look for parking at those places. Parking is free and there is no time limit as long as you park on the side of the street that is adjacent to the building on School street, 6th street and E street. If you park across the street on either street mentioned, you will have to move your car at 7am or you might get a ticket (although I didn't see anyone else move their car like I did and did not see tickets on those cars that remained on the other side of 6th street, just don't leave your car in front of the school across from the hotel's main entrance). There are meters that begin at 7am on E street on the side opposite of the building and I paid $5.50 for two hours. If you are traveling with a friend just know that you can see through the glass for the shower. There is a thin, see through curtain for it but it does not stop people from seeing your silhouette. I didn't feel cramped in the small room and I loved how comfortable it was and how it looked. I also loved being able to see the capitol building from my window.

This hotel was awesome. The location was walking distance to pretty much everything and there are Lime bikes and scooters all over making it easy to maneuver through DC without needing a car or having to worry about parking. The rooms were small but SO clean and well set up. Everything in the room is controlled by an iPad which makes it easy to control. The roof has a awesome view of the capitol building on one side and the Washington Monument on the other. Would definitely stay here again.

No breakfast is not included. It is very expensive for what they offer
garage parking underground next door. pay seperately.
USA - all guests must be 18 years old or older to book a room and stay at citizenM (this includes the second guest in the room). Anyone under 18 years old can only stay with a parent or legal guardian. To visit our cloudM rooftop bars, you must be 21 years old or older.
First I would download the smart trip app. You would take the yellow line to L'Enfant plaza. It is a few blocks walk from there.
