Location is superb for visiting the DC sights. Rooms are fitted out to a good standard, staff generally friendly and helpful. Cafe Riggs is OK (we had one dinner and two breakfasts), but there are better quality and better value restaurants around.
The hotel and rooms are very comfortable. Its located in great proximity to all there is to see in DC. The Staff is very nice, friendly, and accommodating. A really great place to stay when in DC. Enjoy.
Pros Wonderful location, well furnished, very attentive and loving staff (shout out to Coach Vince and Garnett), gumball machine fun for kids, clean gym, really fun shampoos/lotions by D.S. Durga Cons Beds just a little lumpy, rooms and bathroom small for the price, doors not very soundproof so sometimes you can hear families talking in the elevator-atrium, no pool, TV options a bit limited
We brought our 2 pre-teen sons and had a suite connecting to doubles room. The hotel is top notch! The renovation is beautiful. The rooms are stunning. The staff was so kind. The location was exactly what we wanted. Neat spot right by restaurant row and Ford’s Theatre and The Nat’l Portrait Gallery. We loved this hotel!
Sitting on a prominent corner of the Penn Quarter neighbourhood at 900 F Street, is the Riggs Washington DC. Once home to the Riggs National Bank, I was captivated by the remodelled exterior facade in a Romanesque- styled architecture characterized by arched windows and sturdy columns. The hotel is a mile from the White House, 4 blocks from the Mall and several major Metro lines are handy. My Atelier Suite was a 400 square foot beauty. The room continued the banking theme with a mini bar inside a huge false safe and a safety deposit box facade on the door. The decor sparkled with pops of colour as in the rug, the floral fabric headboard, the plush curtains and the bespoke swirly wallpaper. The bath was marbleized with chrome fixtures and walk-in shower. The Cafe Riggs is the primary eating establishment on the property where the decor is spiced with an ornate ceiling and corinthian columns. The Cafe provides an all day dining menu that works as well for morning coffee as its does for dinner the likes of starters such as Brussels sprouts or entrees like Duck breast. I selected a trio of French Onion Soup, Tagliatelle and Creme d'Citron for dessert......all it the mark for good....real good. The Silver Lyan is a lower level, inventive cocktail bar where I had the chance to sip cocktails in the bank vault. The Riggs is a tad short on amenities but does have an 1800 sq. ft. gym with Peleton bikes that enabled me to execute my exercises program on the road. There is also a 2500 square foot rooftop event space with a terrace bar that features panoramic views of downtown Washington. So, if you want to bed down in a hotel with a landmark architecture that houses exemplary design, destination dining and funky detail............then try the .................... ...........Riggs Washington DC............A Grand, Elegant, Romanesque Revival Hotel.…
Great staff, great location, great food (inside the hotel and nearby). A very walkable neighborhood with easy access to attractions (like the National Portrait Gallery) and some fine restaurants. If we ever go back to D.C., it will be our first choice.
The hotel is in a great location, it was very clean, it had everything we needed. The breakfast in the Cafe was good. The staff was Super friendly and helpful, especially Kimberly. Mr. DC is the man.
The Riggs had been highly recommended and did not disappoint. It is a beautiful property that has maintained many of the architectural features of the bank that inhabited the building for many, many years. The interior design is wonderful as were all of the hotel staff we encountered. It was in a very quiet area of DC but easily accessible to everything. As other reviewers have pointed out, the bathrooms are very small which would have been manageable except that the stylish pedestal sink is extremely impractical. There is no space whatsoever to put toiletries other than a very tiny table below the sink. Other than that, we loved our stay at The Riggs.
We stayed here because of its proximity to the Capitol One Arena. While in a great location, its staff are beyond top-notch. Everyone clearly enjoys working there, from the waitstaff to the bellmen to housekeeping wheeling carts through the hallways all greeted us with warm smiles. In the Silver Lyan, we had multiple people checking on us, filling water glasses after one or two sips and then hustling to get us in and out so we could make a dinner reservation. The front desk was fantastic as were the valets and bellmen. So this doesn't look fake, there is one criticism: the hallways are soooo cold. I don't know why, but it's like someone left a window open. Other than that, this is the place we will stay from now on when returning to DC.
Perfect location for walkers, bikers, shoppers and diners. Interesting history as “the bank of presidents”. Enjoyed the old black and white clips in the Cafe Riggs. General areas were opulent and rooms were nicely appointed.
