The Canopy By Hilton Washington DC The Wharf stands out for its prime location and cleanliness, consistently earning praise for its neat rooms and public spaces. Many guests relish the modern rooms with stunning views, though some note their compact size and occasional noise.
While the hotel's dining options and walkability to nearby attractions are highlights, the value proposition is questioned by some due to high costs and varied service quality. Despite this, the attentive staff and hotel's inviting atmosphere contribute to a positive overall experience for visitors.

Hotel's Favorite
My wife made reservations for my birthday-from the very beginning the hotel staff made us feel extremely welcomed. Abbey and Antonio made sure we got a great room with a view. Can’t say enough about their competence and professionalism. After we checked into the hotel, we got something to eat, and then went to a play at Arena Stage, which is in walking distance of the hotel. After the play went back to the hotel and had a beverage at Whiskey Charlie’s. It was a great day that was kicked off by the refreshing treatment we received from Abbey and Antonio.

We enjoyed the location at the Wharf for visit that included a lot of sightseeing all around DC. The free shuttle to the edge of the mall makes getting around easier, but it's a doable walk, as well as getting to the metro stop for longer distances. The Wharf has water access, a waterfront vista, and the hotel is done in a a clean, modern style. The second floor lobby is a little out of the way, and getting to your room requires two elevator trips or a set of stairs plus an elevator trip, but the elevators are speedy. Lots of food options in the area. Housekeeping was solid and attentive. Not a luxury spot, but sophisticated in a simple and functional way.

I knew I was in a good place when I saw the bright orange water bowl next to the front door of this awesome hotel. The Canopy strives to make ALL of its visitors feel really welcome from start to finish.
The hotel also embraces core values dear to my heart; my most favorite was the absence of plastic water bottles in the room; they provide a reusable glass vessel and directions on where to fill it. The tasteful recycle trashcans are a nice touch too.

We arranged to stay at this location for our wedding anniversary, selected the hotel because of the FREE Breakfast offering advertised on Priceline/Booking.com. We attempted to talk with front desk clerk who referred us to Hristiyana Ralinova. We sent email but to date no response. Disappointed that nothing was offered for the inconvenience of Breakfast not being offered for FREE. We were offered to eat breakfast at the restaurant but PAY the cost. Beautiful location but lack of care for customer service warrants 1 STAR.

I was in the area for a conference and working for a hotelier I felt it necessary to comment on this property based on my experience and what I noticed when staying at this property. First, let me say the location is great and the staff is also wonderful but based on the price I was paying ($500 per night with taxes) I was hoping for a lot more out of a Canopy Hilton property.
The first design and layout issue I found was that there is no TV in the main bar on the lobby level. There are TVs upstairs in the Whiskey Roof Top Lounge but you will be subject to loud blaring music all night being hardly able to talk to the people you are there with. The roof top lounge is a nice party atmosphere but I just wanted to watch a Monday night football game. So, to my surprise there was no TV to watch a football game in the lobby bar but there are TVs to watch just outside the restaurant in these cute little nooks. The only issue is that some smart designer thought it would be great to put a pendant light in front of the TV so you can't watch the TV. Why would anyone design that? And not to mention the wood bench that was very uncomfortable and had little functional use from what I could see. Just very poor design and space planning.
The rooms where also laid out terrible. Never should you be looking over your couch to watch TV. The rooms are just poorly laid out and there could have been other options to make the room more functional. And some of the finishes in the bathroom were showing water damage. It just showed lack of care for the property that seemed to be pretty new.
A few other annoyances. The keycard reader for the elevators is not convenient and it seemed the employees constantly were reminding people how to swipe the cards and get up to their rooms. And the ground floor seemed a lot of wasted space that could have housed a front desk/check in or some sort of greeting for guests rather than putting it on the next floor making guests walk up or take an elevator to check in. It just seemed unnecessary.
I do want to say that the staff was great. They allowed us to eat the lunch we purchased from the seafood stand Jesse Taylor's out on the porch, although we did get a few beers. And the property, including the rooms, were very clean.
Overall, my POOR rating is mostly due to the very bad design and space planning of the hotel. And the bad design choices to stick lighting in front of a TV in the lobby lounge area. I know it may seem like a small thing but these small finishes and touches make a big difference in the experience the guest has at your hotel. And for $500 with taxes per night I would expect a different level of experience from a Canopy Hilton on the DC Wharf.

I’ve been a Hilton Honors member since 2000 and prefer staying at Hilton properties when possible. The Canopy was a new brand for us. Very modern design and decor and we loved it. This location was perfect after two days of meetings about an hour away from DC. We had not been to DC for about 10 years and this trip gave us an opportunity to check put the city again. This Wharf location is super convenient with a number of restaurants and stores within walking distance. And the Wharf itself has stunning settings for pictures and enjoying the views afforded by the hotel’s glass construction even in the middle of winter. Great hotel and perfect location!

The hotel room was very updated with a barn door separating the bedroom from bathroom, a nepresso , and wonderful bath products. Not your everyday Hilton. Streaming Netflix and movie channels provided , a free cocktail in the bar , and cookies upon check-in. Will definitely go back .

We visited the Canopy by Hilton at the Wharf for a staycation and to celebrate my husbands birthday. The hotel is very modern yet warm at the same time, we loved all the unique tables, flooring, chandeliers, it just suited our style very much!
The service was amazing, we were treated by the front desk agent and they acknowledged that we are celebration and are there for an occasion. The Assistant General Manager, Christians, greated us personally and she wished us a great stay. We were upgraded to beautiful corner suite with great views to the river and surprised with a birthday card from the team and a cake!
The hotel is very close to Del Mar, the best restaurant at the Wharf, where we had dinner.
Breakfast was delicious too!
Lastly the hotel is LEED certified and you can see their intent to preserve energy use glass instead of plastic etc, just an extra thing we appreciated!
We look forward to our next trip there!

All to often, people like front desk agents in guest services are overlooked and under-appreciated. Guests rate room cleanliness and F&B service, and seem to forget the faces (albeit covered by a face mask) who they’re first greeted by. Well, not today! From the very moment we stepped foot inside Canopy DC, The Wharf, Eileen was absolutely incredible! Eileen you will always be remembered by us for your welcoming and personable attitude. We cannot wait to return for another few nights in DC because of YOU! Crystal, you too are a rockstar on the front line. We appreciate your incredible friendliness and personality and look forward to seeing you again during our next visit! Hilton has valuable assets beyond their properties, and to me it’s the employees who make guest experiences memorable, like Eileen and Crystal. Thank you ladies!!

Our team was assigned to our Washington DC HQ Office during the initial COVID-19 response. The Canopy by Hilton went above and beyond to accommodate us, this included keeping us feed and in a safe environment. Always greeted by name, personal service, felt at home during a challenging time. I would recommend anyone traveling to Washington DC to make the Canopy by Hilton their first choice for lodging!
