Detailed Reviews
What a delightful boutique hotel. We were not expecting this level of hospitality for such a reasonable price. We were welcomed with open arms by the front desk staff. Kara and Sunam got us oriented to Foggy Bottom and even taught us how to use the Metro. Late night pizza here is a must. Max works the late shift and makes sure the guests have all their needs met. Breakfast was simple and delicious. Checkout with James was a breeze. He even escorted us to the rooftop terrace and gave us a little local history lesson (as a GWU alum, he knows whereof he speaks). Brooke very kindly stored our baggage and retrieved it for us while we waited for our ride and ordered one more gourmet pizza for the road (mushroom truffle with chicken). This hotel is perfectly situated in Foggy Bottom, within walking distance to all the Memorials, the Kennedy Center and the infamous Watergate Hotel. Everything you need is right here at The Hive!

Hi Jimmy, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear you had such a great experience at Hotel Hive. Kara, Sunam and Max are always eager to help our guests get the most out of their time in Foggy Bottom, and we’re glad they could assist with the Metro and local tips. We’re also happy to know James could share some local history with you while you enjoyed the view from our rooftop, and that Brooke was able to take care of your luggage. It sounds like you had a truly memorable stay! Thanks again for choosing Hotel Hive while you explored the city, and we hope to welcome you back soon! Thanks, James - Hotel Hive

Finding a quality hotel at a decent price point is hard to find, especially within any walking proximity of the National Mall. Hotel Hive manages to do just that. What looks like a historical building on the outside turns into a beautiful building on the inside.
This was the first micro hotel I’ve had the chance to stay in, and I would highly recommend it! The rooms are just the right size: we had a King Size Hive room (their largest by square feet and most quiet room type). Their location is perfect, with about a 10 minute walk to the Lincoln Memorial or a 5 minute walk to the Foggy Bottom/GWU Metro stop. Since it’s situated pretty close to George Washington University, the area not only feels safe, but for the most part it’s fairly quiet as well.
Any notes to pay attention to, but that I’m not going to downgrade the hotel on because it was made fairly clear up front (or expected as a hotel):
The beds are firm (expected)
The pillows are incredibly soft (expected)
Since they have a roof top bar, many people (assuming college students) come out to enjoy the roof top atmosphere (told in advance) (Everything is required to settle down by 10pm, so if you don’t expect to be sleeping before then, that shouldn’t be a problem)
The elevator is small (expected, old building)
Bathroom, since it’s a Micro Hotel, didn’t have any counter space (expected)
These above aspects should not be used to gauge the hotel of its quality, but rather good to know going in. This wouldn’t stop us going again, and I hope it doesn’t for you either, but just something to know!
As for the great aspects:
The staff is incredibly kind and helpful
The location again is convenient, especially if this is your first time in D.C. (or even if it’s not)
Small, affordable, and gives you exactly what you need in a hotel. There may not be extras (such as pools, mini fridges, etc.) but if you’re looking for a place to lay your head at night, this is a great spot.
The parking garage they work with was the cheapest out of all the hotels I had been looking at (by nearly half the price). I’m not saying they are the cheapest ever, but they are definitely more affordable if you are driving!
Again, I highly recommend Hotel Hive! I spent quite a while searching for a reasonablely priced hotel in the National Mall area, and practically gave up when I stumbled upon them. I’m grateful that I ended up choosing this hotel, and I hope that if you find yourself in the area, you end up here too!

This hotel is a little hidden gem! The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay the best possible! It is a couple blocks from all the monuments and a couple blocks from the metro and so many restaurants. We ate in the hotel restaurant and had the gluten free pizza and it was amazing! Our room was a king hive and we could hear some people moving around upstairs but nothing that bothered us at all. The room was really clean. We asked for extra towels and a bucket of ice and it was brought to our room within 15 minutes. Parking was provided by a garage across the street and was $24 a day, and did not include come and go privileges which was fine since we walked and took the metro. Thank you so much to the staff for an amazing stay! We will definitely return.

Hotel Hive was a pleasant surprise located in the heart of Foggy Bottom and walking distance to The Mall, monuments, museums and the Kennedy Center.
The hotel itself is a micro-hotel so the rooms are small, but they are super clean, efficiently organized and contain everything you need for a short or longer stay. The rooftop deck and indoor bars are both terrific, but the highlight of our stay was the tremendous team that operates the hotel. From the front desk staff, to the bartenders, to the housekeepers, everyone was friendly, accommodating and very helpful.
We highly recommend Hotel Hive as a high quality, well located and budget-friendly hotel option in the heart of DC.

Hotel Hive was absolutely perfect for our visit to Washington DC. My husband and I were there for a 4 night stay. The location made it easy to visit all parts of the city being close to the bus and metro rail stations. When we arrived, we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff. A special shout out to Anthony who gave us some great tips and suggestions for exploring. We did have a little issue with our original room which was located right next to the main staircase. It was a bit noisy there and the next day I mentioned this to Cara who asked how our stay was going. She quickly remedied the situation by upgrading our room to a larger and quieter location for no additional cost. This was unexpected but very much appreciated. The rooms were very clean and beds were comfortable. The holiday decorations were simple and elegant, and the hotel had a hip vibe. We had great service at the hotel bar and a cheap and delicious breakfast one of the mornings we were visiting. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the DC area and is looking for something a little different than your basic chain hotel. Absolutely great value!

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Hive. From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff (including Q, Chanta, Brooke, and Kiera) were welcoming and helpful, offering tips for visiting the city and answering any questions we had. The room was a great size and very clean. It would have been nice to have a fridge in the room since we were there for 5 nights, but it definitely wasn’t a dealbreaker given how good the rest of the experience was. We were in one of the buzz rooms which was somewhat noisy throughout the day, as advertised, but was quiet at night after 10 when the bar downstairs closed. The hotel location was perfect, with a 20-30 minute walk to most of the main attractions and museums on the Mall.
If you are planning to have a car during your stay, one thing to note is the hotel uses a public parking lot just down the street from the hotel. When we first arrived and when we left on our last day, the parking lot attendant had issues with the system and it took 15-20 minutes to get in and out of the lot. Once parked, it was easy to get in and out on the daily basis, and there was always space to pull up in front of the hotel for loading/unloading.

The overall design of this "micro-hotel" provides great, small, clean hip rooms at a fair price in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington DC. Located inside the streets of the GWU campus, this casual place has a staff that is always attentive and welcoming. One particular member of their Guest Relationship team, Kiera, is a primary reason I will choose The Hotel Hive over comparably priced competitors in the area. Her professional approach to service combined with her upbeat spirit make this place feel like a welcoming "home away from home" every time.

The staff at the reception were very polite and attentive. They helped me with a socket adapter from the European to the US system. The room was small and lacked a wardrobe but had a very large bed that occupied three-quarters of the space. The view from the window was not great, overlooking a narrow and dark backyard, but the room was quiet and perfect for sleeping at night.
The staff at the pizza bar were not very friendly or attentive. Additionally, the bar service seemed expensive with mandatory large tips. However, the rooftop is a perfect place to spend the evening with a glass of beer after a hard day of work.
The hotel's location is suitable for young people with minimal luggage who are on a business trip to US state offices or George Washington University for a couple of days.

The Hotel Hive is a wonderful experience!
James and Khiry went above and beyond to accommodate me- I had finished a bicycling tour and needed a place to store my bike safely. James offered to store it for me in the hotel so I didn’t have to park it on the street in Georgetown. Khiry was gracious and carried my heavy and bulky panniers down to my room. They were friendly and gracious with tips about staying in DC.
The room was small but very accommodating for me- the shower was hot and powerful and the shampoos and body wash were high quality and smelled AMAZING! The bed and pillows were high quality and the tv worked. The AC was powerful but whisper quiet.
The Hotel Hive serves pizza and they offer a gluten free crust. The pizza was delicious and well prepared. I ate dinner at their rooftop area which had a bar with a friendly staff.
. I had breakfast and they made accommodations for me due to my gluten intolerance. The server insured my safety by bringing out the skillet on a safety plate.
This is a unique hotel and one to stay at!

For solo travelers, Hive is a great deal with an unbeatable location in Foggy Bottom. My room had bunks and a small desk, with personal bathroom with shower. Great soundproofing. I utilized offsite parking and it was easy to find and affordable as far as DC rates go. The best part of Hive was the staff - so friendly and helpful, I felt welcomed and at ease from arrival to departure.

Kingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom568 contributions56 helpful votesHi all, is there a store/supermarket nearby selling snacks/drinks to take away? Things such as bottled water, chocolate bars, crisps (potato chips) etc. Thanks!
No to HBO and Max.
Though I did not drive there, my guess is that parking is one daily fee. But, again, I do not know for certain.
