Lavericks Bay is on Banks Peninsula, just under two hours from Christchurch and about 30 minutes from Akaroa. Rich in history, the scenic bay is set on a 1000 hectare sheep and beef farm, which has been in the same family since the 1850s. The Camp is set on a sunny spot on the farm. It has two thoughtfully decorated tents both with wood-burners, and a camp kitchen and bathroom. With a dedicated communal area, the campsite is perfectly set up for two small families, or a group of friends holidaying together. A hot tub offers the ultimate outdoor soaking-under-the-stars experience. The isolation is a highlight of this incredible place... While there are a handful of others living and staying on the property, it's likely you'll have the beach all to yourselves... spot the seals and dolphins that visit the bay while you're sipping your evening drink in the sun, to the background sound of the birds and the waves. Total bliss.

Absolutely loved our two nights away. Harriet the host was so lovely! We had a day of sunshine & a day of torrential rain & it just added to the experience!! The hot tub & outdoor bath were bliss. Enjoyed a walk to the beach & around the bluff & saw some seals. The tent was super cosy with the fire going & the linen was just luxurious!! Definitely recommend to all!! A real off the grid, no internet experience, made us just relax & spend quality time together.

If you want to get away from it all - this is a great place to go. You get to camp out without some of the discomforts that go with it. The bed and linen is luxurious. The kitchen is well stocked with good crockery and cutlery. The bathroom is clean and modern with gas hot water. There is a fab outdoor bath with running hot water.
However! the website says its a sunny spot - yes but it is also EXPOSED - its 2 tents on a hillside in a paddock with no shelter what so ever (for $200 p.n). The tents are held down with strops for a reason - the wind is fierce! The lean-to kitchen is also exposed to the elements. If it's raining and blowing you're going to get wet and with the limited landscaping you're probably going to slip over getting to the bathroom. There are lovely little logburners in the tent, however they burn out really quickly, you'll have to stoke it up and add wood a couple of times in the night. We had to go foraging for more wood further up the valley as there are no trees around.
I still recommend this place for a getaway, however the price is a bit heavy.

We really enjoyed this place. The tents were super cozy with the fire, and beds were comfortable. The hot showers were amazing. Nights were spent playing cards and drinking wine with friends. We drove down to the bay, saw some seals, and enjoyed the sunset. We would definitely do this again.

What are you waiting for? If you have an extra day or two in Christchurch, you really have to give this a look. We were there for the night in December and the wife and kids (8 and 10) had an absolute blast! The bay is amazing, including the sea lions that the kids enjoyed getting a few meters away from and they spent at least 2 hours running up and down the hills while we relaxed at the site.

Being from the states but living in Manila, the kids miss camping and asked for it for Christmas and I couldn't have asked for better. All you really need to bring is food and beverages and a mindset that your going get away from it all. No cell phones, no internet...just a great location with great amenities. As others have indicated, the tents and kitchen are well stocked and probably had the nicest beds and linens that we slept on during our 12 day trip in NZ.

And booking was easy and Harriet was extremely helpful getting this right side driver there from Christchurch without issue -- (Do not follow google/apple maps, you will not make it, follow the instructions from Harriet or on the site!)

Having spent far to many nights in hotels for business and vacation, this was finally something that gave me and my family a different and exciting experience -- the logging was the destination, not a place to put our things while we went somewhere in and around town.

My husband and i, and our 2 girls (6 and 3) spent the Eve of Mothers day GLAMPING in Lavericks Bay, and we had an absolute blast! We were impressed how much heat the wee log-burner in our tent put out, it warmed the tent up so quickly and we were warm and snuggly all night which was also impressive for the start of May (Autumn). The Kitchen facilities are great, and VERY well equiped, the kitchen is also enclosed so you are sheltered from the elements. There are games in the tents for the kids but lucky for us the night sky put on an amazing display so our night was spent star gazing, eating marshmellows and playing spotlight, it was magic! We all slept VERY well, the beds are super comfy and the linen and blankets are divine. Mothers day morning for me was spent in the gorgeous, private out-door bath, watching the sun come out of the sea, it doesn't get any better than that!

Accommodation was great, hosts were amazing! Hot tub was perfect. Amazing setting and view out to Lavericks Bay. Would definitely recommend this spot and would be keen to go back at some point! The weather wasn't fantastic but it was a great place to just chill, play board games and cards and soak in the hot tub for hours!! Great for a couple or even small group/two couples!

A great place to spend a weekend with our daughter and her fellow gappies while she spends her gap year working in New Zealand and we visit for 3 weeks. Wonderful ( if remote) location and excellent glamping facilities; very comfortable and well equipped and the outdoor bath had an amazing view. Beautiful walks into the hills or to the beach.

Hi Kirsty, yes this should be possible. You'll just need to get in touch with Canopy Camping and discuss with them. You can tell them you've been in touch with me via TripAdvisor. There will be a fee for additional guests but this can be worked out with Canopy. Thanks, Harriet

Hi, thanks for your inquiry (and congratulations on your upcoming marriage)! Have you already booked? If so I can email directly, but in the meantime to answer your questions; The closest airport is Christchurch (CHC) which is less than 2hrs from the site. I'm unsure what you mean by how safe is the site? There are no wild animals and the likes that can hurt you. We have not had any incidents with harm to any guests but I suppose there is always some risk... people can break their legs etc in all kinds of situations... We do not supply food, but upon booking we can direct you to supermarkets, deli's etc. There is everything you need at the site for food preparation and cooking. The beach is just over 1km from the site, and you can either walk or drive. Hope this is of help!!! Thanks, Harriet

"Access to these tents is through a creek so you'll need a 4 x 4 or park and walk through the creek and up the hill. The beach isn't that easy to get to, you have to go down a road called 'Private road.' Take warm clothes, it can be v cold. Bring gumboots. The fridge is around 100 m up the valley in a shed."
