Detailed Reviews
Stayed at La Rochelle for 2 nights in room 8 - upstairs king studio.
From check-in an hour early the owners made us feel welcome and helped carry our bags to the room.
The room was clean, tidy and well appointed.
There was a small balcony that looked out over the stream that runs through the property.
Would definitely stay there again.
The only thing I would change is to be in a downstairs room simply to have the terraces right on the stream.

Bed comforable, clean room, great furnishings. We had bath which was very much appreciated. However, wifi works but it is slower than what we are used to at home. After lockdown, there was only one tv channel (Bravo) on Sky

My son and his partner had invited me to go on a road trip adventure in New Zealand and Akaroa was our first stop after Christchurch. I really would have been happy to cancel the rest of the trip and stay here for a couple of weeks!
The location is perfect, set within easy walking distance of all the local attractions, restaurants and shops.
The two apartments were beautifully set out, extremely clean and comfortable and equipped with top quality amenities. (The towels were especially nice being soft and luxurious!)
One of the special features was the balcony overlooking the stream and complete with the constant sound of birdsong. This provided a serene and peaceful environment for relaxation.
The owners were friendly and helpful (and it was so good that they had a stock of almond milk for the vegan members of the group.)
I can highly recommend this motel for either a short or long stay to anyone seeking a peaceful and comfortable retreat on the edge of this interesting little town.

We stayed in early December just after Erica and Trevor took over (they were still unpacking!). Even though they were busy they always took the time to stop and answer our questions. And we had quite a few since the floods and the road closures prevented us from heading down to Wanaka as planned. Trevor was particularly helpful in recommending Methven as an alternative. We stayed 2 days in an upstairs King Studio that had a small kitchenette. We particularly liked the small balcony that overlooked the tropical garden. Hotel was quiet and peaceful and only about 0.5 km to the harbor. Make sure you take the Pohatu Penquin evening tour. It was a trip highlight. Also, enjoyed the Giants House...quite unique!

Thanks for your feedback. Due to the rising costs of food, we no longer provide breakfasts as you will get better value for money at one of the amazing local cafes within walking distance.

Lovely, comfortable room in a stunning location. Trev and Erica made us feel at home straight away - what awesome hosts. They gave us recommendations for places to visit and directed us to a bar on the waterfront where we watched the sunset. Wish we could have stayed longer. Will be back for sure.

Sometimes the hosts just get it all right - Trevor & Erica keep this place lovely, clean and tidy and are welcoming and pleasant to deal with. The room was immaculate and even had plugs for both sinks (trust me this is rare). All appliances were of a high standard and everything worked... I rate this Motel very highly indeed, don’t take my word for it come and see for yourselves you won’t regret it!

My fiance booked this amazing place that has everything we need. The only downside is the tight parking.
The room is clean, bed is so comfortable. The room opens up and welcomes you to the sound of flowing water and birds. Peaceful definitely we will come back and have a staycation.

We don't normally stay in Motel in Akaroa, we hire a bach. This was a different occasion and we were very pleasantly surprised by La Rochelle Motel.
Super-friendly and very helpful host who was genuinely happy to welcome us and chat - nothing forced or artificial, a guy who seems to be a good guy. We also loved the small terrace out the back of the unit - it faces onto a stream and has screens / trees so it's separated from the others. Not a big area, but definitely very pleasant to look out on and the birdsong filters through to wake you in the morning.
Spotlessly clean and fresh with everything you could require for a stay.

Friendly, helpful hosts. Quiet room, well equipped. Comfortable bed. Garden areas keep very tidy.
Easy and interesting walk to the retail areas.
Had great fish and chips for lunch at "Murphy's On the Corner" but had to vacate early when we became overwhelmed by hungry seagulls.
Dined in the evening at "Mandala" and thoroughly enjoyed.
Would recommend La Rochelle.
