Detailed Reviews
Wonderful relaxing place to stay. Be aware units are not serviced every day but that has an advantage of greater privacy if staying for a few days. However not so good if fresh towels etc required, they are available at n extra cost. we found lack of service every day not to be something one expects in NZ for a complex of this quality.
Regular cruise ship arrivals has turned the township to be more tourist orientated but that can be an advantage, depending upon what you are looking for. It is possible to get a schedule of expected ship arrivals and plan your holiday accordingly. Town can be busy when several ships are in but that can add to the atmosphere or you may plan to do walks or activities away from where the tourists are.

We stayed in the Turret Apartment. For the price we paid compared to other places we have stayed in the past, we expected more in the room. If you wanted any extras, even a 2nd towel for my wife to use for her hair, you had to go to reception & ask & it cost extra. The advertised pool is an extra charge that you don't know about until you read the list of extra charges in the apartment. The complimentary toiletries were more basic than a budget motel & selection of teas & coffees etc, was lacking. The Apartment does not get serviced unless you stay for 3 nights before the first service, this includes no clean towels until then. The Lady at reception wasn't very friendly or helpful but when checking out the guy was friendly.
On a positive you can not beat the view & location :-) just make sure you take your own towels and toiletries :-)

Great hosts and a great location, all we needed for a break away. The hosts also recommended restaurants and activities which we enjoyed. The location of Village Inn is immediately opposite the wharf, lots of restaurants and shops around and then a gentle stroll to the other end of Akaroa. The view from our room was wonderful. Thanks team

Room Tip:Â some stairs are steep to rooms, would suggest if need be ask for a ground floor room.

Some rooms in the complex look quite modern and well appointed ... our room, 62, which is the turret room on the corner was anything but. Very tired from the carpets to the furniture, bedding, blinds, lighting and bathroom. No Air Con, which on a 28 degree sunny day made the room unbearable. Just a very uninspiring and basic room which is way overpriced.
That said, I would pay $300 a night for the same room if it was fully and tastefully refurbished (and I mean start again from the ground up) because of the location and views. With some comfortable outdoor furniture on the balcony (rather than the very uncomfortable chairs there now), it would be delightful to sit outside and take in ambiance and beauty of Akaroa Harbour. I will not be staying at this property again.

We stayed here after our Banks Peninsula Walk, i was disappointed. Four towels, 1 face clothe for 4 people! One block of soap, 1 sachet of shampoo, limited number of tea/coffee no hot chocolate. Plus a sign stating they would charge use extra if we didn't wash the dishes on departure....really!! Not very hospitable!
Rooms were very tired, chip marked and lacked basic inclusions - poor housekeeping. A complicated bond system if you wanted to use the pool facilities.
On the plus side good location, great comfy beds although no choice of pillow so hopefully you were ok with a thick foam pillow.

I had one of the apartments over Aihe restaurant. It was lovely and spacious, beautiful views over the water, and an incredibly comfortable bed. Great location, very friendly reception staff, and a nice touch providing a small bottle of milk to get you started on tea and coffee. Another positive was 2 of everything in the kitchen (nothing worse than having 3 plates and 1 spoon!), and a proper hairdryer. But for the price I was paying I expected more/better.
I was disappointed that the free wifi was limited to one hour per day, and that there was an additional charge to use the swimming pool. If you stay in one of these apartments you do hear the noise from the restaurant - it would probably bother a light sleeper. The decor is outdated, particularly in the bathroom. My overall impression is that the unit should be priced at $170-200 per night, not nearer $300 per night as I paid.

The apartment is in a perfect location in the middle of the village and within walking distance of everything - but it is locked in a time warp and desperately needs updating. An information leaflet told us that the Akaroa Village was letting this apartment on behalf of the owner and that the owner was responsible for the decoration etc of the property.... But the "The Village" must ensure that the properties they are letting are up to a certain standard and unfortunately this one wasn't. Could take 6 people but only one sofa and one easy chair in the living area. Not one bedside table. No light switch by the bed. No where to hang a hand towel in the ensuite. Had to ask for a plug for the washing machine (was told that there had been too many floods so plug was removed). Couldnt open the carport door so had to park elsewhere. Such a shame because it could be such a great place. When booking make sure you know which of the appartments you are renting. Avoid number 7 Aubrey Mews

We stayed two nights here post Covid. Akaroa is a lovely spot and Akaroa Village Inn is perfectly situated to maximize the experience. Close to the restaurants and a very short walk to the main village. Management are super friendly and relaxed, rooms are perfect. I totally recommend spending a bit more to have the balcony room - a glass of wine on the balcony overlooking the marina is an experience hard to beat.

I was disappointed that there is no lift to the upstairs apartments and the steps are steep to be carrying up luggage. It can also be noisy and the view was restricted by buildings on the foreshore. The cooktop was not particularly clean. Although it is in a wonderful location overall I felt it was very expensive for what is on offer

The pool that is advertised is not included in the price - you pay $10 extra per day to use it. We were put in one the the ground floor apartments at the back. Nothing like the pictures in the website. Dark and basic, i.e. no curtains, just blinds sitting within the window frame, no pictures, no sun coming in as it is shaded by surrounding bushes and apartments. It was clean but felt neglected, e.g. door handles a bit old and rattly, three of us had trouble opening the bathroom lock to get out, a couple of lights went off in the evening, but then one came back on the next day - wiring issues? Previous visitors’ sheets and rubbish bag left outside the door until late. We paid a premium price for budget style accomodation.

The unit we stayed in had very nice outlooks from the windows, and there were water glimpses....I wasn't too worried about views, as the property is over the road from the sea,..on the main street which runs alongside the beach...I cannot imagine that you would be spending much time looking at a view from your accommodation in Akaroa, it is such a beautiful place.....
Hello Aoife,
Can you please email me with your arrival date & I will be able to help you.
Kind Regards,
Kerry
