Detailed Reviews
My husband and I have just spent a wonderful 2 nights at Te Wepu pods. We arrived at 4 pm on Friday and had advised that we had a 4wd vehicle (and were confident off road driving) so were allocated pod 'Ruru' which you can drive to. There is the option to bush walk 20 mins to it or get driven there ( both options with your gear being transported for you).
We had opted for the weekend food hamper which we recommend. 4 pieces of delicious steak, 4 sausages, delicious cob loaf, crackers and cheese, vegetable skewers, fresh beans, tomato & feta salad, panini, smoked salmon and cream cheese, eggs, wine, juice, fruit, chocolate and more. Plenty of food for 2 dinners a lunch and 2 breakfasts. So convenient and easy when you dont have to think about taking food yourself. We also took a few more beers and they were nicely cooled in the chilly bin provided. Webber bbq and separate gas element to cook on, and boil water for the dishes.
The queen bed was very comfy and we opted to leave the door and window open all night as it was pleasantly warm. There is solar panels for lights and to charge your devices in the sleep pod. Composting toilet in its own pod. Kitchen sink area separate too. We spent a lot of the time, day and night, in the wood fired hot tub looking out at the beautiful view over the harbour. Wonderful seeing the Kereru/wood pigeon flying around the trees. The birdsong in the morning reminding us of the wonders of nature. Currently no fire ban so we sat around the fire pit at night toasting the provided marshmallows.
It was about a 25 minute drive in to Akaroa to peruse the shops but we couldn't wait to get back to our 'paradise' and relax in a bean bag on the deck with a beer on a sunny afternoon.
Te Wepu has a produce stall and honesty box at the driveway with eggs, honey and their avocados (southern most NZ avocado orchard).
We stopped in for coffee and cake at the recently reopened French Farm deli next door after we checked out on Sunday. A lovely end to a perfect weekend. Highly recommend Te Wepu.

We spent one night at Te Wepu, in Keruru pod. The amenities provided blew us away. Everything you could possibly want is there for you. From utensils to robes to marshmallows for the fire! We had a beautiful gourmet breakfast from the farm’s fresh eggs and provided accompaniments.
With a fire pit and a fire-heated spa there were multiple places to chill out and relax. The spa remained hot overnight and watching the dawn break from a beautiful hot spa will be a treasured memory that will last forever.
We are friends and had to share a double as there is no twin configured pod, but it was comfortable and large and no problem at all. The pod is positioned to maximise access to the view across the harbour, through the glass door, even once in bed.
Kate and Richie (and family) are welcoming and friendly. Little doggie Louis was a treasure!
100% going back some time!!

This has to be at least 200 characters long……here’s a few words that come to mind. Magic. Peaceful. Birdsong. Private. Stunning. Highly recommend. Sustainable. Wood fire hot tub. 20 more words…the expense of worth it. I had the most amazing couple of nights stay here. Hosts are privacy conscious, generous (thanks for the fresh eggs)
Love love loved it here 😍

After a family member let me know about this comparatively new venture, I knew it would be the perfect choice to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed with our decision and enjoyed an amazing two nights staying in the Ruru pod enjoying being surrounding by beautiful nature. The serenity and isolation was just perfect for winding down and just relaxing. Our only company was the various native birds that were a constant backdrop.
Highlights of our stay were the wonderful hamper of local produce which we dined on over several meals, the friendly hospitality of our hosts Kate and Richie, and of course the wood-fired hot tub.
The walk up to the pods is through lovely lush greenery, but is a decent workout in parts so keep the option of a ride up from Richie as a valid option! Also be aware that the bio-loo won't be everyone's cup of tea but it fits well with the philosophy of the venture.
We cannot recommend Te Wepu highly enough - if you are looking for a relaxing getaway where you can just enjoy the simple pleasures of just reading a good book, soaking in the amazing view, while soaking in the tub, then this is the place for you. We will definitely be returning.

Love this place! Views are stunning and it’s hard to beat a relaxing soak in your very own wood-fired hot tub... Definitely one for getting away from it all with a little ‘intrepid’ luxury.
I can recommend the 20 minute walk in option - taking in the bush and native birdlife is fantastic and you really get a feel for the rural setting. So many lovely touches and treats, can’t wait to go back!

We had the best time. Lovely hosts, place super clean, peaceful and with a great view of course.
We had Kate’s delicious BBQ hamper for dinner, which we highly recommend, and we also got marshmellow to toast :)
After dinner enjoying the hot tub under the starry sky is breathtaking.
More than just spending the night at a beautiful location, Te Wepu is an amazing experience!

On arrival we got a warm family welcome from Kate, Richie, their 2 girls and Louis the dog. A short walk through the regenerated native bush to our pod set the tone for a afternoon and evening getting back to nature glamping style. We got one of Kate’s yummy hampers, with fresh produce from the area. I’m vegetarian and Kate happily accommodated my diet. We had everything you could need and more. To sum it up we felt totally spoilt and very refreshed (the pre-warmed hot tub helped too) We will be back. 😊

Kate and Richie are so welcoming. We had never been glamping before and we can't wait to go again. Everything is provided - even WIFI. The beds are comfortable. The view from the hot tub is breath taking. All you hear is the sounds of birds. It is serene and relaxing. I highly recommend Te Wepu - Intrepid Pod Retreats.

What a spot for a night !! It was a surprise for my anniversary with my partner. I could be more happy to stay there. The feeling to be lost in the nature with all the facilities eco friendly was an amazing time ! Chilling in the hot tub, listening the nature around or eating all the good treats is what we did for the day and night. Nothing more nothing less, everything is there to make you feel relax.
Thanks Ritchie and Kate for your welcoming, it’s was just WONDERFUL !
