Delightful Boutique B & B with a good location near the main shopping area and the wharf. This old historic villa has been renovated by Tim and Jacqui who are superb hosts. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and ours had such a comfortable bed we slept very well as the location is quiet. Breakfast also great although we don’t eat cooked breakfast. Our other guests had cooked and were very happy with the local Salmon. Not enough time there. We should have stayed another night. Totally recommend.

French Bay House is a beautifully restored historic home that is warm, comfortable and charmingly decorated. Tim and Jacqi are the most welcoming hosts who provide all the comforts. Their attention to detail is remarkable. There are always logs on the fire. There is strong WIFI, a torch in the bedside cabinet and plenty of good books. The beds are extremely comfortable and warm, being made up with crisp white sheets and warm duvets with cosy waffle weave covers. The towels are white and fluffy and the quality of tge bathroom personal hygiene products adds a touch of luxury.
Breakfast is hearty, well presented and perfectly cooked, with an emphasis on fresh, local produce. The position of French Bay House is just perfect. We would love to enjoy Tim and Jacqui's hospitality again if we are in Akaroa.

A beautiful and immaculately presented BnB. A cooked or continental breakfast is included in the price. Jacqui and Tim are a lovely couple. We went out for dinner and walked to the restaurant. It was very chilly walking back to the BnB but we were welcomed to a wood fire in the guest lounge with lovely background music and complimentary port. A wonderful way to end the day.

Great night's stay ay French Bay House!

Tim and Jaqui were excellent hosts, you can tell they have huge passion for their business, they go out of their way to make sure their guests have a great experience.

The house is a wonderful historic building, beautifully restored with comfortable beds and good facilities.

The cooked breakfast was top notch, made with local produce including "happy eggs" from Tim and Jaqui's own hens.

We will definitely be back!

We were lucky enough stay at this wonderful property for a night before walking the Banks Peninsula Track. Jacqui welcomed us and then we just relaxed in the garden until heading out for dinner - walking of course. The next morning we woke to the smell of backing bread and Tim put on an amazing breakfast including some of Jacqui's homemade cereal, while educating us about Akaroa as only a true local can. I do suggest you try the hot chocolate pot. We would love to return and bring some friends with us next time.

Our stay at French Bay House was the perfect start to our New Zealand adventure. The house is wonderfully historic and beautifully maintained, with delightful bedrooms, a truly comfortable guest lounge and a tranquil garden. The host and hostess Tim and Jacqui are welcoming, helpful and generous with their time, introducing us to the areas restaurants and excursions. Our itinerary only allowed as to stay two nights, which is a pity as it would have be gorgeous to stay longer. Faultless. Michael and Debbie Foster, UK

We loved our stay at The French House, the central Akaroa location was perfect, great facilities, very comfy bed and en-suite, delicious breakfast, and we loved Jacqui and Tim’s delightful hospitality. They couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. We couldn’t recommend more and will be back!

What a wonderful guest house. Ranks up there amongst one of the best we have stayed at. Jacqui and Tim are fantastic hosts and make you feel so welcome and at home. The house is full of history and character yet very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Our room (Raupo) was lovely and very quiet. The cooked breakfast was perfect and it was lovely to chat with the hosts and other guests to get ideas of what to do and where to eat (the Chefs Choice 5 course menu at Ma Maison was an absolute winner).

All in all a top guest house in an area of outstanding beauty. Definitely highly recommended.

We stayed for 2 nights B&B at the start of our New Zealand trip, couldn’t ask for better. Tim and Jacqui looked after us excellently. From the moment you arrived they made you feel special, helping with bags, first drink on the house, suggesting excellent restaurant, arranging boat trip.
Okay, this is not one of your worldwide hotel chains, it is a one off run by lovely people. Room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was made on the spot and you got what was given. This was tasty and included eggs from their hens and tomatoes from their garden.
When you arrive you phone, rather than a reception area, however they are there in a jiffy. There is a friendly lounge with brochures from local activities.
Definitely, we would happily go back frequently, Akaroa is also beautiful, just a bit far for us to travel. Loved it.

Beautiful house with amazing hosts. The location is superb and the house very welcoming. Breakfast was excellent and cooked fresh every day. Genuine warm welcome from the owners and it felt like being at home- right down to lighting the log burner in the lounge at night when the temperature dropped. Highly recommended.
