The hotel is very well located. 1 minute from the Chain Bridge, 8 minutes walk from the Buda Castle complex. We spent most of our time on the Pest side (this was our first time to Budapest) and would probably choose a hotel on that side of the river in the future. The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean. The beds were a little stiff for my liking (a common theme throughout this part of Europe) and I had to compensate with an extra pillow. I'm 31 years old and 66 kg so really, it made me feel very old to need to support my lumber with a pillow, haha. The buffet is standard breakfast fare (unless you're American and looking for pancakes and waffles). I enjoyed toast and juice every morning, and there were yogurt options, fruit (canned), cheeses, meats, sausage, etc. Our room was quiet, facing another building. We weren't there but for sleeping, so we didn't really care about the "view." The lobby has computers where you can print a boarding pass, which we took advantage of for boarding passes.

The hotel was good value for money, I had a family room which was clean and spacious. There are tea/coffee facilities in the room and lots of towels changed regularly. The breakfasts are a mix of cereals, pastries, cheese, sliced meats egg and breads. There is plenty of choice of flavoured teas as well as coffee. The only down side to the hotel is it is located on a steep incline, step steps one side and a steep ramp the other, not suitable if less mobile.

The Carlton was a lovely hotel. Not too big.The staff were very friendly and helpfull. Our room was clean and comfortable with a lovely modern bathroom. We had a fridge so we were able to buy milk for our tea and coffee as we always take extra with us. The breakfast was good and plentifull. Free wifi. It had everything we needed. I would definately stay here again. It's in a fantastic location. Walking distance from the Chain Bridge and the hop on bus stop and Buda Castle. There are some lovely eating places very close by.

The Hotel was €20with tip) and 30 minutes from the airport. Perfectly located on the Buda side of the city and 1 minute from the chain bridge. We had a double room on the 5th floor and cannot fault the hotel or the staff. Breakfast was a mixture of hot and cold buffet. Ample tables and selection to cater for our needs. The room was serviced every day and was clean. We had a rear facing room , with views of the neighbouring apartments, but this didn't bother us one jot. If all you want is a sensibly priced, perfectly placed hotel, then this is your place.

This is a gorgeous city, probably one of the best 5 in the world: Vienna, Prague, Budapest, New York, Tokyo.
Incredible architecture, culture, history, unbelievable beauty. This particular hotel is mediocre. A regular business-type hotel with minimum services. Hotel is not highly recommended.

The Carlton Hotel is nothing special but it has clean, decent sizes rooms and serves an average buffet style breakfast. The 2 male receptionists were very different - one very helpful and the other saying as little as possible! It's main attraction is the location - steps just over the road take you up into the Castle Hill area or just around the corner, opposite the magnificent Chain bridge, is the funicular railway. We would also recommend the Belgian Restaurant at the bottom of the steps - great selection of beers and a very friendly atmosphere and open late.

The travel directions could have been clearer - Red Metro to Batthany then follow the yellow tram signs to the 41 or 91 tram (terminus) - a nice ride along the Danube, I think 2 stops, to right by the chain bridge - follow the small footpath up around the old building, then right and the hotel is up the steps on the other side of the road. Position is OK though down a side road - no real views. Rooms comfortable, staff helpful and friendly. Room service and quality fine. Only two gripes - one was the micky mouse cups for drinks in the room (tea and chocolate) and secondly the astronomical prices of the reception bar. Breakfast well prepared, fresh and good variety. Location is fine for accessing the town. Get a 7day travel pass - very economical. Apart from needing to take your own room mugs and avoiding the bar drinks I was very happy with the hotel.
Found the Belgium cafe brilliant for food but staff grumpy and seemed to resent serving Brits!
Take the cog railway, two stops from the top - brilliant cafe-cake shop there - worth going to Budapest just for that mmmmm!

This hotel was fine as far as the facilities and its proximity to the Castle District, but unfortunately my family of six had an issue during our 3 days here that completely ruined the stay for us. The one member of our family who was African-American was subjected to a very unpleasant experience. Whenever he happened to come back to the the hotel by himself, staff members watched him vigilantly if he sat in the lobby, followed him upstairs (to the point of riding in the small elevator with him) when he went to his room, and generally made him feel unwelcome. The rest of us (who were white) did not get this treatment. Quite honestly this experience came close to destroying our vacation, which was particularly distressing to me because I had chosen this hotel for my family based on the positive reviews. After careful consideration, I decided this could have been caused by one or two of the hotel employees rather than reflecting any kind of institutional culture, and wrote a nicely worded but to-the-point email about it to the hotel management. Unfortunately they dismissed our concerns. By comparison, we did not encounter anything like this in the other places we stayed during our trip, and had an otherwise pleasant rest of our trip.

Yes you can but its more expensive than booking with another provider. We used Suntransfers and it was Euro 27.50 each way.
