Brody House is a 19th century palazzo where guests can stay, create or entertain. Each bedroom is unique; individually designed with its own art narrative (and in-room gallery), en-suite bathrooms with large walk-in showers or hand-made in-room bathtubs. Popular with local and international creatives, short term and long term guests are welcome. Staying guests have their own honesty bar and access to club rooms in which breakfast and lunch is served daily, dinner on Fridays and Saturdays and there are community social and cultural happenings. Situated in the historic 'palace quarter' overlooking the Hungarian National Museum and its elegant gardens with many characterful cafes, restaurants and bars within a short walk. Liszt Ferenc Airport is a 25-minute cab ride away and there is a decent bus service for the ecologically concerned. The venue's unique atmosphere is enjoyed by a broad range of guests and works well for groups, couples as well as for individual travellers.

3 storied from the 1800’s, original curving wide staircase, huge double doors, unusual art on bare plaster walls.
Nothing in Brody House is as it seems! Perfectly situated close to city centre and the Old Jewish quarter Ruin bars.
There isn’t a lift, so not suitable for disabled people.
We thoroughly enjoyed this unusual place and would recommend it to all. 😀

We stayed here for 3 wonderful nights during our visit to Budapest and thoroughly enjoyed our time. For starters the building and decor are absolutely beautiful - although the building doesn't have a lift, the stairs are small steps so you can slowly manoeuvre your way up the 4 flights of stairs with your luggage. We stayed in Room PG and the floor felt like a home with the living spaces and kitchenettes, and our room was absolutely enormous! Comfortable bed and more than enough space for luggage on the floor, a big walk in wardrobe, and spacious bathroom too - with 2 sinks and a separate toilet and shower (also big and with heated floor tiles/towel rack and 2 shower heads!).

It should be mentioned though that there is little to no soundproofing (unsurprising given the building is from 1896), one evening we were inside our room at about 5pm and there was a group of 4+ people using the shared living space outside our room and it was quite noisy, though only for an hour or so. Unsure how often housekeeping checks on the kitchenettes as some of the teas ran out during our stay and wasn't topped up until we requested. There's no fridge in the room but we used an area in the shared fridge in the kitchenette

Short walk to the main road and restaurants/shops, but far away enough from the hustle and bustle to hear very little street noise

As European that used to travel between east and west, and never really entered Budapest, it was time to do so. The friends recommendation to see Brody House was the best idea! Very central and compared to a mostly 'rude' or not very inviting attitude around the city, Brody House felt right aways cozy and like home. Thrown back in time and also seeing all this contemporary art mix with skillfully composed and created industrial elements, makes Brody House unique and very elegant while somehow Neo-trashy. All is purposely composed and curated with love. Also stunning how clean everything was and how cozy the sheets and the dorm and the bathrooms. I have to say a big thankyou for this beautiful and way too short stay. Definitely coming back and leaving for now all my best. till soon.

The rooms are spacious and quite well decorated. The building itself is a charming old house in the city center. However, the rooms are EXTREMELY noisy - the noise insulation is very bad between the rooms (we could distinctly hear our neigbors talking and people walking in the room above us). There were also renovation works at the time of our trip (in February) starting 8 am... Finally, housekeeping was superficial with no deep cleaning of the bathroom. Would not recommend it.

Dear Celia, We’re sorry to read the point in your review. As a matter of interest, did you raise any of them with our team during your stay - it has not been brought to management’s attention. Our housekeeping team is usually most rigorous in its work - something that has often been (positively) commented on. I am quite surprised about the renovation work - the team were instructed not to start before 10am. Many apologies if they breached this. This work has been completed and the space duly improved - I hope you can be encouraged to return to experience what most guests consider to be a positive and unique experience. Kind regards, Team Brody

After the number of 5 star reviews we were wildly excited to stay at Brody. We were buzzed into a lonely foyer with no receptionist and when she appeared and we relayed had a horrid travel into central Budapest from the airport her response was 'you should have read more about Budapest'

The stairs are a nightmare and the run down/ruin tone may be charming to some, but felt more like a haunted, lonely mansion to us. We saw no one else for most of the trip. No atmosphere and no one on reception to ask for recommendations. And when receptionists came out, there was no joy.

There were no robes or slippers (it was -7) no conditioner, no coffee or tea in the rooms, but these were minor things - the in room bath was exquisite and the rooms (Ludo) ARE funky, artsy and quirky.

Breakfast was meagre and they forgot to put the meats out which may have been fine but with little offerings it would have helped. The main reason it even got 3 stars was the barman each night. They honestly were the only reason we didn't fly home early. Each night of the 3 stays we met lovely, young barman who we could actually talk to. Have interactions, created atmosphere, ask questions. Atilla is a wonderful, hospitable barman! Keep him.

Here is a picture of a 'latte' from breakfast to make you laugh. Look if Ms Havishams mansion from Great Expectations or the hotel from the Shining is your thing, then go ahead.

Dear Brody Guest, We are most disappointed to read that you did not enjoy your time with us. Please accept our apologies for the poor welcome and perceived lack of presence. We are most surprised you felt we were not friendly as this is perhaps one of the most oft-commented aspects of the Brody House offering: we aspire to offer a warm yet relaxed and helpful welcome. The roll-out of the new reception area for which the desk had been installed but the new heating unit was pending may be reason why the team were popping in and out and why you felt there was no presence. This upgrade work has been completed now and someone is sitting there from 8am till midnight daily. Thank you for your praise for Attila - we have reflected this feedback to him, too. Sure, the house was quiet but it was the first full operating week in January and our 2020 social/cultural schedule had not yet kicked into gear. Re breakfast (and for the benefit of other readers), we offer a buffet format where guests can eat as much as they wish. Natural yoghurt, home-made fruit compotes, home-made granola, oats, fresh fruit, toast, hard boiled eggs, cheese and cold cuts, toast and croissants are available as well as unlimited fruit juice, tea and black coffee. With the opening of our new clubspace and kitchen, we are introducing cooked a la carte breakfast options too with a focus on locally-sourced products. I hope you have occasion to return to Brody House (maybe during a warmer and livelier time than early January). By way of encouragement, Attila will offer you a few of his finest cocktails on the house. Kind regards, #TeamBrody

This is a very attractive new café/bar in Budapest’s hip central Palace District, in the Bródy House boutique hotel, which occupies the splendid former Tauffer Palace, built in 1892, facing the leafy side of the National Museum. It comprises two large ground floor rooms and an attractive courtyard. The modern art choices won’t be to everyone’s taste, but it’s all good fun. I went for lunch on a Wednesday, when it was surprisingly quiet, and it was a very pleasant place to spend an hour or two. It was a warm day, but the large open windows made it agreeably cool and despite some noticeable ‘background music’, it wasn’t too noisy. I really enjoyed - a bit surprisingly - my vegan meat and mushroom Gözleme, a sort of filo pastry sandwich, served with yoghurt. The beer and coffee were good too. Service was exemplary. My only reservation was that the menu was extremely limited - to two or three items. If they expand their offerings, it will be even more of a hit than it is already.

If you're looking for a boutique hotel with old world charm and a hip twist, I strongly encourage you to book your Budapest reservations with the The Brody House. My room, with the copper tub, was spacious and comfortable. As a woman, I felt safe at all times and slept soundly. Every morning I ate breakfast and often lunch in the open-air restaurant surrounded by ivy-covered stone walls. Here, on Saturday evenings, a soiree of artists, musicians and travelers gravitate toward stimulating conversation and cocktails. The staff is accommodating and the owner, Peter, were engaging and friendly. I want to go back nest year!

Brody House is the most amazing HOME away from HOME! The wonderful energy in the beautiful shared living room and bar with art from all over the world and even a piano there waiting for you! It's like a city palace in it's best form where you feel totally relaxed and inspired. The courtyard is a gem where you can sit and think, work , eat any time of the day or night. The rooms are a safe haven and the bed is a dream. Slept like a child! Thank you Brody House for both excellence and personality!

We had a wonderful one night stay at this hotel. The staff were very friendly. The room was amazing: clean, cool and welcoming with everything you need.

The guest house is well-situated. The airport bus drops off five minutes away and it is easy to walk to all the sites.

I wish there was a Brody House in all European capitals!

Hello.planning a mother & daughter trip, which rooms are best for twin beds
Answer from Team Brody
Budapest, Hungary2 contributions2 helpful votes
Thank you for your question! Except the Yeresko room and the Eszter's nest all our rooms can be made as twin. We have free standing bathtub in the Tinei room and in the Ludo room, but those rooms has separate shower as well. Etienne's room, Judit room, Droga room, Weiler studio, Julia studio and the Print suite would definitely suitable for you.
Answer from Team Brody
Budapest, Hungary2 contributions2 helpful votes
Dear Claudia, Almost all of our rooms are facing to the inner courtyard except the Print suite where you might hear the noise from the street. This room has shutter on its windows. Otherwise all rooms has a curtain on the windows and doors so they are dark enough. I hope this helps. Kind Regards, Ibolya
