Warm, high recommendations for this gem, in the very center of the Old City of Krakow! The "Dom Polonii" is a Cultural Center, where the top floor holds three rooms (more like suites or studio apartments!) available for tourist rental. The location is perfect, the rooms are beautiful, the breakfast is delicious, but most important of all, the director of the Dom Polonii is a charming and very helpful Polish gentleman who speaks English and is always willing to help! It's a three-flight walk-up, but worth the extra effort. We were really pleased with our stay, and will certainly return here again.

We stayed here In October 2006 for 5 nights. We were in a very large appartment at the back of the building, which was very quiet with no noise from the busy square outside.

There are 85 steps up a magnificent sweeping staircase to the rooms on the top floor. Our appartment had a huge bedroom, bathroom with bath & shower, separate toilet, kitchen, and enourmous lounge/
diner. The two main rooms have fantastic beams and traditional furniture & decor, with Digital TV & minibar. The kitchen had a kettle, fridge, hob & oven, & microwave. In a world of corporate hotels it was nice to have a taste of the country we were in. You couldn't be closer to the heart of Kracow, with lots happening in the
square day & night. Good restaurants, shops & when we were there on the Saturday there was a local crafts market. The tourist information
office sold us very cheap tickets to the salt mines & the concentration camps & gave us good maps.

I booked direct by e-mail, no deposit was required and we paid in full when we left. I was a bit concerned after booking that I did have a reservation, but I asked for a confirmation e-mail and everything was fine. Although the staff don't speak much English the owner is fluent and v.helpfull. We had booked 4 nights, then went to Warsaw, when we returned all the hotels were fully booked but The Dom Polonii welcomed us back for one night. There was a concert on downstairs and we could hear it only through open windows & it was all over when we returned from our evening out. I highly recommend this hotel.

My wife and I stayed at Dom Polonii for several nights. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes quirky, spacious quarters and whose ideal pastime is sipping a beer and watching the world pass by.

Dom Polonii is right on the edge of Krakow's vast, central market square. The first floor is a restaurant with a terrace and eight tables, perfect for people-watching. There are four floors to the building, with the top (fourth floor) containing three rooms which are rented out. Rooms 1 and 2 face the square, and our room, which was really an apartment, was Room 3, facing the back. It had an extremely large central room, a big bedroom with a king-size bed which easily fit in it, an equally large bathroom, and even a kitchen. It was extremely quiet--we were able to leave the window open all night with no noise problem.

The staff is extremely accommodating; when they found out our departure flight left too early for the complimentary breakfast, they packed us an enormous (free!) care package of two waters, two yogurts, two fruit juices, two tomatoes, two apples and two meat and cheese sandwiches.

One must keep in mind a few caveats. The main business of the building is not the three rooms. The second floor is for cultural enterainment and gatherings (we heard a marvelous Chopin piano concert one night, the first selection of which had my wife in tears and me choking up), the third floor is for the business which seems to run the building and is apparently an nonprofit for the Polish diaspora. Room service might be every other day or so. The English of some of the staff was pretty limited, though usually there was someone around whose English was acceptable or better. No air conditioning, so on a really warm night, you will have to live with a small fan. And you do have to walk up four flights of stairs to get to your room!

But if you want something a bit different, absolutely clean, willing staff, right in the middle of things, Dom Polonii is your kind of place.

We booked a double room on booking.com and when we got there we were given a twin room so we brought it up with the manager who was rude, unhelpful, dismissive and wouldn't accept our complaint and tried to tell me I was the first person to complain about it. He raised his voice with me and did not do anything but dismiss me. He was extremely rude about it and did not help. We tried to join the 2 beds together but they were in a old wooden frame so it was impossible. My partner is 6ft and he couldn't lie straight they were so short. The mattresses were really hard and my back is still stiff from the uncomfortable beds. The room was old, dingy and extremely basic and the pictures are misleading. The noise from the next door strip club went on all night and was a disturbance. The room was either really cold or really warm, no happy medium. The room was on the top floor so we had to carry cases up 4 levels on stairs as there's no lift. The breakfast was ok but again the lady in the restaurant was so unpleasant and rude. Everything was basic and dated. It was a horrible place with horrible staff and we were so disappointed that we spent our hard earned cash there. If you order a double room you should get one and you should not be argued with by a manager who will not accept he was in the wrong. It is very bad business and aside from that the place is a total kip. I wouldn't go back there if it was given to me for free. We hated having to go to bed at night. It was just an awful experience. Do not stay here as you will wish you stayed a little further from the main square in a nicer place for the same money because this place was the pits.

We visited this hotel in February and couldn't believe how lucky we were, not only because its very reasonable (approx. £44 a night!), but also because of its location and charm! The hotel is built on 3 floors and is in the corner of the main square (Rynek Glowny). There are only 3 rooms and they are on the 3rd floor, reached by a lovely old winding staircase. Once we got our breath back, we marvelled at the entrance hall, which housed our bathroom, and which then led into this massive room (approx. 20ft x 20ft) - with a huge art deco bed and furnished in the same style. Off of the bedroom was a little kitchenette with loads of crockery and a fridge.

On the ground floor there is a charming little cafe and several times a week Chopin Concerts are held on the premises!

I have attached a link to the hotel where you will find contact details and more information about the rooms etc - enjoy!

We actually ate the same meal twice it was SO GOOD. The first time we were walking passed this restaurant on the market square looking for a place to eat dinner. We noticed how good the food looked and the large portions - we like to share meals. We inquired about a meal we saw and were told it’s an authentic Polish dish called the “Chef’s Dish” which is three types of meat, salads, and starches - meat (pork, chicken, beef), salads (carrot, beet, cabbage), starches (rice, potatoes, french fries) and it was absolutely the “best meal” we ate in Poland. The portion was so large that two people did not go away wanting anything. The restaurant had a mom & pop feel with an older couple working. This is a great location to people watch and the activities of the market square. From the outside & inside it looks like only a restaurant, but in TripAdvisor search, we learned it’s actually a hotel/restaurant. We can’t give this restaurant a high enough recommendation.

We took the apartment at the top of the house. High ceilings with wonderful painted beams and antique furniture. Loads of space, huge bed and a kitchen too. The apartment looks out on to the rear of the main square, so is quiet. Few of the staff speak English, but the manager who does so, is extremely helpful.
One bonus is that the building houses a cultural organization which organizes Chopin recitals each week, within the hotel.
Otherwise, you can walk everywhere in the old centre within a few minutes.
Breakfast was excellent.

We stumbled across this restaurant on our last night in Poland. This dining experience was, by far, the best we had during our stay in Poland. Authentic Polish cuisine. We didn't know it was a hotel. From the outside it looks like a restaurant. I had breaded pork chop, boiled potatoes, and kapusta. Delicious!!!!! My last and best meal in Poland! Small restaurant. Our waitress was so good she received a very nice gratuity from us. I saw the cook upon leaving, and tried to tell her how wonderful her cooking is. I think by our smiles she understood. I couldn't find this restaurant listed on Trip Advisor thats why I'm submitting my review via the hotel. Great value also.

We stayed in the apartment (3) which was huge - spacious enough to comfortably accommodate us in the double bedroom with our daughters on the two sleeper couches in the adjacent lounge / diningroom which is fully separated by a pull across door for privacy. There is also a kitchennete with space for 4 to have breakfast if you require self catering. It was very quiet despite its excellent location right on the Market Square. The staff did not speak much English, but were very friendly and provided a great breakfast all included in the extremely reasonable price of ~£50 per night for the 4 of us! We had a very early start one morning and they served us at 7am rather than the usual start of 8am. The panelled ceilings were painted - very interesting decor....we wondered about the history of the place... There is an art gallery in the basement and Chopin Concerts are held several nights a week. A true gem, highly recommended! This is where we wil stay if we are back - despite the fact that it is at the very top of several flights of stairs!

What a find right on the Market place in beautiful Krakow.
This spacious, elegant apartment with kitchenette, proved to be the perfect place to say in Krakow. If you want a characterless 'could be anywhere' modern hotel this is not for you, but if you want character, charm and the best location in Krakow you'll love it. However, there are 86 steps and no lift so not suitable for the elderly or infirm.
