On arrival we were shown our rooms and immediately we knew there was a problem as the beds were at best 3/4 doubles and everything was set up for one person .
We went straight to reception to rectify this or upgrade our rooms the girl told us that these were standard doubles and that we could not upgrade as the Hotel was full .
Therefore we felt there was nothing to be done and decided to try to put up with the rooms .
The next day I went to ask for more tea and coffee , whilst doing this Sylvia informed us there was a problem and indeed we were in the wrong rooms as there had been a problem with the booking and had only expected 3 people . I can assure you we didnt forget we were bringing partners . And we all filled out forms when we arrived so was clearly 6 of us .
I explained we had tried to rectify it by changing rooms but with the Hotel being full there was nothing to be done .
Sylvia then informed us that the Hotel was not full at all and manage to find us 3 rooms immediately , bare in mind this was only 9 am so they must have been empty the day before as turn around isnt that fast .
The rooms were much better and far more comfortable then the previous night but we were really made to pay for the privilege .
Where as we really should have paid less due to the uncomfortable night the night before .
My husband and I was lucky as we got a room at the back so wasnt troubled by noise where as the other 2 couples struggled to sleep due to the noise coming from the 24 hour bar directly across the road .
Breakfast was barely adequate and took a long time to replenish hot food .
If you want a good nights sleep then try somewhere else .
Sorry but the Grand really did not live up to expectations .
Praise for Sylvia as she tried her best to help when we encountered a problem with a tour we booked .
Yes its convenient for everything but quality of sleep is very important .
Would we return to Krakow ? In a heart beat .
Would we stay at the Grand ? Most definitely not .
A short walk to the castle or turn from that direction and walk 5 minutes (10?) and you are in the town square which is beautiful.
We were there end of January and Christmas decorations are out until some religious holiday on Feb. 2nd so it was very festive.
We were there 4 nights, visited Zakopane one day and stopped for vodka nad goat cheese on the way then did the mineral baths after by the ski area.
Visit the salt mine, very much worth the effort. We did not visit the concentration camps because we thought it depressing, but others found it quite a tour.
This hotel is really worth staying in it.
First of all, all members of the staff are helpful and friendly. The hotel is ideally situated in the old town near Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) with all his bars and restaurants. The hotel is good and very clean. If you have a good room (we had a luxury one) you can sleep without any noise as windows face roofs. I do not know how you sleep in a room facing the street, maybe it would be more noisy. Be aware that climatization works from May only. Conditioning air is not needed only for temperatures but to allow us to sleep comfortably with closed windows in case of outside noise. (Our room was number 27...)
Assortment of breakfast is large and even coffee or orange juices are good whereas in other hotels you have coffee looking like hot water and orange juice is often mixed water. Not in Grand Hotel. The beds are perfect and the bathing room very convenient with enough room to put your belongings.
The old town is surrounded by a green bareer, a little Central Park around it. On the other side of green bareer, you can find many trams to go everywhere although many things can be done on foot. I would not recommend Krakow card as public transportation is cheap and many museums as well. You better pay for what you use. For the public transportation, you can choose language and choose a 20 minutes ticket for zones I, II and III. You can go anywhere with it.
I will recommend this hotel without vacillating and the day we go back to Krakow, we will return to the same one.
You really will enjoy it and Krakow really deserves the visit and not only because it’s near Auschwitz.
We really enjoyed the hotel, our stay, the town and Polish people
Hotel doesn’t seem to have a manager either as we couldn’t get in touch with one over the course of our 4 night stay. We had to spend nearly a full day ringing the reception trying to speak to someone to help us. Please stay somewhere else that cares about their guests! This was a really bad experience overall.
The location is superb being very close to the main square yet just far enough away to be peaceful too.
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again when returning to the city.
"An inside room as the streets can get busy, although the street outside the hotel wasn't as busy as those nearby. "Read full review
