Chevin Country Park Hotel & Spa is certainly a unique destination with a distinctly Alpine feel and the hotel itself happens to be the UK’s largest log cabin. Built from imported Swedish logs, it stands at the shore of a small lake, surrounded by birch forest, interspersed with log cabins. Tiptoe through the woods to your Executive cabin with outdoor hot tub, or opt for standard log cabin accommodation or a self-catering suite with kitchenette. Standard rooms and executive rooms with lake views are in the main hotel and this is also where you’ll find the free Wi-Fi (which doesn’t cover the rambling 44 acres of forest.)

Reception and checking in lets this hotel down - not the warm friendly greeting you would normally receive in a hotel. We had previously asked on booking if we could go in the spa from 1pm and were told this would be fine but were curtly told that no it was 3pm when we check in. When we questioned why we were told this on booking she rang someone and they said we could go in earlier for an extra £10 each which we turned down. The spa does need updating. However the Chalets were clean, bedding nice. As others have commented the walls are thin and you can hear conversations etc next to you. The restaurant food was excellent and we all commented how delicious everything was. Also the staff in the restaurant were very attentive and ensured we had a lovely night. Also breakfast was good and again the breakfast staff very friendly and attentive. The location is lovely and with a bit of updating, love and attention to detail and customer service training for reception staff this could be a lovely place for a weekend.

Not eaten here for probably 3 or 4 years,so decided to visit again for Sunday lunch.

On arrival we were warmly welcomed by a lovely bloke, didn't get his name(none of staff had name badges on).

Shown through to a table in restaurant, tables nicely spaced apart.Sunday lunch is £12.95 for 2 courses,or £15.95 for 3 courses.

I had ham hock terrine to start which was lovely, other 2 had leek n potato soup served with warm bread roll.

Mains were beef roast, chicken roast and gnocchi. If I were to be picky my beef was on tough side.

Deserts were lemon tart and brownie with ice cream, which were lovely.

We really enjoyed our visit, all serving staff were lovely. Can't fault value for money. We will visit again, and not leave it so long next time.

Recommended.

After having afternoon tea at the hotel in Spring 2019, we were so impressed with staff, ambience and location that we booked a 2 night New Year package and added massages. In the meantime the hotel has become part of the Crerar Hotel Group.
We started our New Year Break in the Spa with massages which are highly recommended, followed by delicious afternoon tea in front of a log fire in the hotel. Whilst check in is normally 3pm, the hotel were able to accomodate our earlier arrival by arrangement, without us having to wait around. During the afternoon we returned to the Spa to enjoy the steaming outdoor hot tub, indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam room. The food and service throughout our stay was to a high standard and recommended. The hotel is within walking distance of Surprise View (giving a panoramic outlook from the Chevin of Otley sheltering beneath) and nearby Chevin Forest Park.
Top tips for Crerar Hotels
1. Our room 16 (within the hotel) was comfortable but seriously in need of updating particularly the bathroom. The shower mixer valve wasnt thermostatically controlled and was either too hot (very) or cold. The basin cold tap leaks noisily at night and doesnt provide much water during the day! The shower curtain arrangement needs updating.
2. Hotel wifi in Reception is slow and non existent in rooms. This is a problem with no 4G signal.

The staff are a major asset at this hotel and were it not for the room shortcomings, the review would have gained 5 stars.

I generally dont listen to too many review and like to give places a fair chance. However this place I wish I had. I booked this for my partners 30th. For 3 reasons:
1) forest location
2) outdoor hot tub
3) hot rocks massage available

I did not experience any of the reasons I chose to book this hotel!

On arrival we were greeted at the spa reception and informed our treatment had been moved back by an hour and 15 minutes, no apology given. We then headed into the spa to find the outdoor hot tub was broken. Again no explanation or apology given. After splashing about in the pool and indoor hot tub we then went to have our treatments. We went into a very bright supposed relaxation room which was actually just a couple of sofa in the gym. We were taken in for our treatment we were told the hot rocks were not available and we had to have a full body massage instead. While the massage was good it was not what was advertised or paid for.

After this we went to our room which was run down and shabby, and had a wonderful view of the car park. The room was a little dirty and the curtains were absolutely filthy and covered in stains.

The food at the evening to be fair was ok and the staff at the hotel reception and in the restaurant were very friendly.

Finally at breakfast we were told it was continental. Help yourself with absolutely no covid precautions whatsoever. Due to this we had no fruit and only picked items in packets so they could be wiped down before being eaten. Furthermore all continental food was good clearly brought from a cheap wholesaler.

Overall am extremely disappointing experience on what was supposed to be a really positive special 30th birthday present for someone who had worked throughout the pandemic.

Absolute waste of money. Please if you are thinking of coming here for the spa I really wouldn't bother.

I'll start with the good - it is in a nice location surrounded by trees. That's it. That is all the good stuff.

Before leaving this review, I contacted the hotel to see if they could help us to resolve anything. They sent one reply which was about as useful as a chocolate kettle. I also spoke to staff at the hotel, but nothing came of that either.

When initially booking I spoke to reception on the phone and was mislead by them that we would have a meal and a massage included in our booking. It turned out that we didn't, and because we didn't find this out until the day before our arrival, we couldn't even book any treatments as there was no availability.

The hotel itself was FILTHY to the point where the thought of touching anything made me feel sick. There was mould on the walls in the 'spa' where the pool was, there were someone else's dirty glasses on the terrace of our room, the surfaces in our room were thick of dust and the curtains were disgustingly dirty. The restaurant clearly hadn't been cleaned in a while, although I will say that the food was good - just ridiculously overpriced. The restaurant's toilets were (surprise) filthy as well.

The bathroom in our 'executive' room was extremely dated (I felt like I was in a cheap, dingy motel in the 70s) and the shower had zero water pressure - so if you do plan on booking, I'd recommend showing before.

Our visit was during the Coronavirus pandemic, so places should only be open if they are rigorously cleaned regularly. This place should not be open at any point in time, but especially not during a pandemic.

This is possibly my first ever negative review on Trip Advisor.
I try to see the positives in all our breaks away because Hotels/B&B's can't get it right all the time but...I wasn't impressed.

It's only half hour away from us but we've heard good things about this place so as a treat we'd thought why not.

Reception
Only 1 person on the Reception, when that person is dealing with an unhappy customer on the phone you've just got to wait & wait, eventually probably 15 minutes we got seen too.
Our room wasn't ready so we had some Lunch in the Bar area.

Food
Sunday Lunch, spot on, lovely food, decent sized portions.
Evening Meal, beautiful, no faults what so ever.
Breakfast, not too bad, Full English, decent sized portions plus I wasn't keen on Black Pudding or Tomatoes so they give me extra Sausage & Bacon (some Hotels don't)
Choice of cereals, toast etc too.

Bar
Decent selections of beers, no real ale which shocked me? We are in Yorkshire after all.
Price? WOW! Eye watering.

Woodland Lodge
Basically a normal sized lodge chopped down to size to fit 4 rooms I think it was?
Bed was comfy other than that, run down, shower poor, other fixtures & fittings poor, surprisingly not cold though.

SPA/Pool
Didn't go in the SPA but looking at the prices again a bit pricy compared to others we've visited.
Pool decent enough, sauna & steam room a bit on the small side other than that OK.
Unless your on a SPA Break you will have to pay for "robes" though at a cost of £5 each.
We was told we have full access to facilities so why aren't robes included? Seems another way of making money to me.

To say this place has lots of weddings I was surprised at how "old" it looked as we walked around to the various rooms that would house wedding receptions.
Just a lick of paint would brighten it up somewhat?

NO WiFi, hardly any signal, didn't bother me, I wanted a night away from all that.

Overall, pretty unimpressed which is a real shame.

Ill start with the positives -
*The location is lovely and can very much feel like you are in the middle of a forest.
* the reception staff are friendly
The negatives -
* accommodation very tired, we stayed in the bronte lodge at a cost of £820 for 2 night. The lodge could do with a deep clean and a good check over...some bulbs missing, many items of kitchen kit missing on unfilled. The downstairs toilet was literally 100 years old and the hot tap did not work. The hot tub was lovely, however bring flip flops as its across from the garden rather than in decking as i had anticipated.
*the breakfast was the worst ive ever had. Everyone in our party had an something missing on their plate, i.e veggie breakfast had veggie sasuage missing, egg allergy had a egg on. The waitress was new and really stressed. Told us we couldn't have toast yet as it was getting busy.. it wasn't even half full! Because the quality of good was literally inedible ( we aren't posh i at least expect something along the lines of a premier inn breakfast) we cancelled our evening meal as not prepared to take the risk!
Final nail in the coffin was they billed my debit card on my departure date putting me in my overdraft, despite paying the full amount upon checking in, and I'm still waiting for the refund to show in my account.
Word of advice, children are only allowed in the pool 7am till 10am, and as an adult it £15pp to use the pool which I've never know as a checked in guest.

We decided to treat ourselves to a lodge here, and given the price for one night, not inclusive of breakfast (£110) we thought we would be safe and get a good quality stay. This was not the case!

Firstly, despite trying many times we couldn't get hold of reception in the run up to our stay as we had a particular request. We left a message and although they did complete the request, they never called back to acknowledge so had no idea whether or not we had a cot for our baby...!

The room was not good enough, it was really tiny, tired, not clean enough, a shelf just completely missing from under the mirror in the bathroom, dirty grouting, and some very poor re-grouting (I could have done better!) and the shower had barely any pressure.

Our first impression was quickly influenced; there were cigarette butts outside the room (albeit in a container, should still be cleared for the next guest in my opinion), a small double bed, and probably most annoying, there was no hand soap (.... I mean really??!) and the hand sanitiser station at the room entrance was not dispensing sanitiser (which makes me think that the cleaner hadn't used it due to it not being noticed).

After all of this, on check out we brought this to the attention of the receptionist (who were very friendly), who simply thanked us for our feedback. Personally I would have gone further than that and at least offered something as a result of all the above.

We certainly won't stay there again, unfortunately there are few premium alternatives in the area, which makes me wonder whether or not this place is resting on its laurels a little.

Photos attached to demonstrate cleanliness and tiredness.

We were gifted this visit as a wedding present from friends and were very much looking forward to our stay. We booked dinner for 7pm, there is not much choice on the menu but we both found dishes that we liked. However this did not matter as we were not even seen until 7:45 when someone eventually came to take our drinks order!
Food is nice but extremely overpriced for the very small portions.
We were asked if we would like to see a dessert menu, this then took half an hour to arrive.
When we finished our meal we walked to the till area and had to wait for the staff to stop chatting before we could pay to leave.
The room we stayed in (8) was dated but ok, however the cold tap in the bath does not work so we had to use the shower to add cold water to the completely boiling bath.
The next morning we visited the spa at our allotted time, we were greeted with “it’s not tidy sorry we are short staffed” we were given a towel and nothing else yet guests that arrived after us were given robes, towels and slippers.
I have to say that the two ladies who were working at 7:30am for breakfast and midday for our afternoon tea were wonderful - they went above and beyond and were probably the only positive part.
When checking out reception tried to charge us again for our booking even though they had already processed our gift voucher - while waiting to check out there was another couple complaining, they had been charged for extra bottles of wine that they had not purchased.
Overall, this was ab extremely disappointing visit and I feel like my friends who bought this as a wedding gift for us would be disappointed too. It really isn’t worth the price you pay.

well we where a bit concerned after some reviews BUT when we got there the staff where very helpful and polite. We stayed in the Bishopdale suite and it was great . no cobwebs that have been reported had everything we needed was clean bearing in mind it was in the middle of a wood so yes leaves etc outside. all rooms had individual heaters (as been southener and in the north it was needed) it rained as forecast but we where cosy, . It takes some getting use to to self cater in a log cabin not design for it but we managed (well my wife did). A log cabin has wooden walls so expect a rustic look . I expected noise as reported by some but even the only squirrel in sight was behaved . To wake up each day was a delight to open the curtain to a woodland view made even better on the days of sunshine. If you want formica and chrome go to a hotel chain but this to us was perfect , we wanted to be in control of things as after 5 months of isolation in lock down it was silly to waste all the careful shielding. We did not make use of the facility on offer but they where there al be it in the new normal (what ever that is)

The road to the cabins is flat but levels differ with each cabin. Some have steps into the cabin. Some have 2 levels inside the cabin. We have had both. The bathroom can be down 2 steps and the door. Other cabins have 2 steps to get in over the decking. I really think that the reception could be better to advise you. Maybe there is one all on one level which we haven’t used so far but I think we have tried most layouts. Good luck.

We went into cabin 63. The shower didn't work. There was mould on the grout. The outside light didn't work. There were mouse droppings on the floor. I would think about somewhere else.
