We stayed at Sunlit Waters for two nights while roadtripping from Cairns back to the Sunshine Coast. The staff were so friendly and attentive, always happy to have a chat whenever they saw us and gave great tips about the best meal deals and places to go in town. We stayed in one of the classic studios and were amazed with the view from the room as well as how spacious the rooms were. Pool was beautiful with 180 degree views of the marina. Great location, very close to centre of town. Wouldn't stay anywhere else when we next come to Airlie!!
Booking only 2 weeks out, the only room available was unit 7, their largest and most expensive room. But I'm glad me and my husband stayed in this room, it's their best! It is the corner room which gives you a double view out front and side windows, you are on the end so total privacy, no one walks past your room, it's the biggest with plenty of space and furthest from the pool so the quietest. Plus, it's not that much more expensive than the other rooms, so I'd recommend booking it. The view is nice, it's not spectacular and you are looking at the left side of the marina, not the beach. There are plenty of other places in Airlie with a better view, but this was still nice regardless. The swimming pool is open until 10pm which was great, so many other places close at 8.30pm. It was warm and well lit, but you do need to keep quiet as most of the rooms are right next to the pool. The only gripe I had with it was there are prickly/thorny plants in pots right next to the pool you have to walk past to get to the steps and there is little space between the lounge chairs and this plant and when I got out of the pool and wrapped my towel around me I hit this thorny plant with my hand and hurt myself. Considering kids stay here, I don't think it's a suitbale plant to be by a swimming pool with no protection around it? The hotel is on the top of a hill and the walk up and down it is a bit of effort in the heat after a long day so be wary of this but it didn't bother us as we only had to do it once. They do have a carpark but there are only 4 spaces and really only suitable for small cars but the owners were really kind and let us keep our car there after we had checked out as we had a half day tour we went on. They also looked after my valuables at reception while we were away, which I really appreciated. There are 3 major things for me when it comes to staying at a hotel, light, noise and comfort - you are there to sleep afterall! The light was great, the windows are tinted and the curtains are mostly blockout so you don't get woken up at the crack of dawn from the morning sun. The noise level was great, far away enough from the Airlie strip to not hear any of the music or traffic and the widows had good soundproofing. Comfort, the bed was a queen size and an ok mattress comfort level, not great but not horrible. The main issue I had was with the pillows, they give you 2 options, hard and soft. The hard pillows are already on the bed and the soft ones in the cupboard. The hard pillows are like bricks, I honestly don't know how anyone could sleep on them, but I found the soft pillows also quite hard, certainly not what I would call a soft pillow. They were also low profile and I much prefer a medium profile pillow. So I tossed and turned waking up preiodically throughtout the night which isn't great if you have a tour or activity the next day you want to be well rested for. I wish I bought my own pillow with me, it's a medium profile latex pillow and very comfortable and would have made a big difference to my sleep. The room had everything else we needed, the aircon was cold and quiet! The bathroom and second room are up a set of stairs, which can be a bit tricky to navigate in the middle of the night if you need to use the loo. The bathroom was also big but the shower was really small so a bit of a strange layout. The hair dryer was also very weak, barely worth using. But all the other amenaties were great. Overall we were both very happy with this place and would definately stay there again, I would just bring my own pillow and watch out for that prickly plant!…
Friendly staff, a spotless room and common areas. A brilliant pool and great views of the marina and the islands. Walking distance to town and the marina. Excellent value for money. They have a great common area outside with a BBQ and pizza oven.
We stayed at Sunlit for three nights and they were helpful for navigating Airlie Beach and very helpful when we needed to extend our stay at short notice. They were very friendly and quick to share their local insight. The view over the marina from the room was fantastic. The rooms were clean and the pool was great for evening swims.
Chris and Fiona are fantastic hosts in every way, Exceptional rooms, exceptional cleanliness, and great hospitality. Extremely knowledgeable in recommending tours. Very easy check-in Love the Choice of hard and soft pillows. Very close walk-in distance to town . And views to die for!
