We stayed at the Posada Rural Fontibre for 1-night in late May (€75) while on a trip from Bilbao to visit the Iglesias Rupestres along the Ebro River. Fontibre is a tiny hamlet with 2 restaurants, the source of the Ebro River and not much else but rural tranquility. The posada fits right in, an historic country inn, 2 floors of rock, brick, dark timbers & wood accents fronted by a sun room and a pleasant grassy garden with a couple of picnic tables.
Our 2nd floor room was spacious, with a high sloping wood-gabled roof, plastered walls with exposed rock in an accent wall, and a Juliet balcony. It was furnished with 2 single beds (shoved together), a large wood armoire for clothes storage, small desk & chair, mini-refrigerator and small wall-mounted TV. The bathroom had a vanity with a reasonable amount of space around the single sink & a quarter-circular shower stall, but only minimal toiletries.
The hallways and common areas were packed with period furniture and rural collectibles (cow bells, old photos, maps, etc.). Breakfast was basic, toast, a fruit basket, sweet cakes, yogurt, orange juice & coffee. Our host was friendly (no English, so we had to overcome a bit of language difficulty – no problem), and helpful (he led us to the only open restaurant for a late lunch). Overall, a very comfortable stay at a pleasant and atmospheric rural posada at a reasonable price.

A welcoming room in a very calm place a few yards away from the river Ebro's spring. Very helpful hosts. A very good restaurant at a few yards (closed on mondays though) a lively restaurant 6 kms away. A peaceful and interesting discovery of the little park around the river's spring.

We made a reservation and as requested by the owners advised them of our expected time of arrival. In our case between 2pm and 3pm. We arrived at 2.10pm but the place was locked up and no one there. We waited until after 3pm and still no one arrived. We had to leave to look for other accommodation. It transpired that the owners had gone to meet another guest off a train and the train had been delayed.
Why did both owners go..one could have stayed with the property.. why not leave a note directing us to a hidden key..in such a small hamlet they must have a friend who could have held a key...when they were delayed they could have phoned a friend in the village to come and explain...we were just left there wondering if they had completely forgotten us. Our difficulties compounded by the fact that we were travelling by bicycle.. a fact which they knew.
Probably will never happen again but we couldn't just forget it. If it had been bad weather we could have been in severe difficulties.

As we let you know some days ago, this situation never happened to us before. First of all sorry for the inconvenience, you are totally right in your opinion. The trouble was that we didn´t know that the train was delayed and we couldn’t do anything in advance. We had to leave a note in the door as we usually do but not this time, sorry again. It was our fault and we are so sorry about that. But in case you realized that few minutes after your arrival there was no one in the hotel maybe you could have tried to find our telephone number in internet, in our web site etc. We don´t desire you keep this bad opinion about us, so if one day you come back to Cantabria you are invited by us to spend a weekend in Posada Fontibre for free. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, but as you can check in the rest of the opinions, our guests are always delighted and grateful on our attentions. Regards Rosario and Enrique

Stayed here for 1 night after getting the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander. Beautiful location and very clean. The host was perfect (he speaks very little English) The bedroom was very comfortable and we had a a great night’s sleep. The continental breakfast served in the sun lounge was great.
Hope to visit again.

My wife and I had an overnight stay here while travelling back from Lisbon to the Bilbao car ferry. Beautiful property in a beautiful location with lovely views but some way out of the nearest town. There is a nearby restaurant but it doesn't open on a Sunday. We arrived on a Sunday! Not a problem if you are not drinkers. We are! So we drove into town and picked up some picnic items and a couple of bottles of wine and enjoyed that in the breakfast room. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating but their English was as good as our Spanish i.e. non-existent. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again but not on a Sunday.

This is a rural delight and well worth a stay. Unfortunately the villages restaurant is closed on Sunday so we had to drive to nearby Reinosa for dinner (also hard to find an open place, we ended up in a pizza place).
Our room was very quiet and comfortable and our hosts provided a good breakfast.
Recommended.

Found the Posada Fontibre on trip advisor and booked to stay one night on the 14th July during our tour of northern Spain. This a great little Posada and the hosts are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the location is great, very peaceful beside the source of the river Ebro. Highly recommend this for a place to stay with a warm welcome.

Beautiful house run by very pleasant owners, if you Spanish isn't too good their daughter has a good grasp of English. Rooms are well presented and wifi is included. Ample parking and a nice garden to sit in. There are two resteraunts in the village the one near the shrine to the source of the Ebro is exceptional and well worth a visit.

We had a delightful welcome at this very pleasant Posada. It is a good place to stay in this lovely area of Spain although unfortunately we only stayed one night during our tour. It is comfortable, very clean and is full of character.
