The only thing going for this place was the location and the comfortable beds. The room was dated, scrapes on the walls, satin pink curtains, dirty bath mat, bathroom with huge window and no covering, windows that opened so wide, with no option for just having them slightly opened. No air conditioning and so windows needed to be open with loud noisy neighbours. Weird layout walking through an old disused convention room to get to our room. Owners were lovely though!
At $158 for the night we had a good sleep and shower but,,, the foyer downstairs was dirty with crumbs covering bench surfaces and a grubby feel. The bedroom had a window facing the street which had a drape but no net for privacy and the bathroom looked clean a first glance but the skirting was dusty and the toilet seat was worse than anything I have seen on any of my travels though South America, Asia or Europe, Just Replace It - It's Bad. I'm also not sure about the dish liquid in the cupboard above the fridge... do you want dishes done in the bathroom sink?? I cant see where else they could be done.... maybe the shower? Not somewhere I would return to under any circumstance.
Stayed here for four nights and it turned out to be a great location. A 3 minute jog to a lovely beach - lots of activities happening at different times while I was there - paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming groups and even a yoga class! A couple of nice pubs nearby, some great little cafés & restaurants and takeaways if you wanted them. A short drive into Central Nelson and handy to the airport as well. The rooms were clean and tidy, and the bed was comfortable. Onsite laundry as well for $2 a wash. Only negative was our shower pressure wasn’t great. Other than that a lovely stay.
I have been staying at The Beachcomber weekly since November. The staff are absolutely fantastic, I cannot fault them. Perfect location just a short stroll from the beach, and a little pool to lie by in the afternoons. Also very clean. Highly recommend. Thank you to Chris, Hannah, Lisa, Jo and the rest of the staff. Especially Hannah, who has been amazing answering my sleepy questions when I arrive! Many thanks, Marie
Location is great. Handy to all that Tahunanui has to offer. Handy (walking distance) to the camp where our friends were. Short walk to the beach - although we preferred the Hotel’s heated pool which was great. Service was friendly. We stayed for a week (and for a week last year too). Very competitively priced we felt. The only negatives were the shower pressure (felt like you had to run around the shower to get wet) and the lack of air-con. Room did have a fan; but even with it left on, we struggled a bit on hot nights.
