We were booked into this hotel for two nights on our trip around New Zealand. Our accommodation was a first floor one bedroom apartment, although a bit dark it was clean and well laid out with a large bedroom, sitting room with TV and bathroom. There was also a washing machine available in the apartment which we didn’t use. Unfortunately we were unable to dine in the hotel restaurant on both nights due to large coach parties. We ate in the pub across the road as this was the only alternative. We did have breakfast on one day and this was fine.

Kia ora, thank you for taking the time to review our resort. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. I appreciate your comments that your room may have been a bit dark, the exposed wood beams can have that effect. They are repurposed from the historic Nelson Wharf. I apologise that you weren't able to have your evening meals in our restaurant and assure you that this is not usually the case. I'm pleased that you found the restaurant across the road and hope that you enjoyed looking across the beautiful waterfront from there whilst you dined. I wish you all the best for your future travels, haere ra, travel well. Karma Argyle

The style of this property is unusual and the rooms (particularly furnishings which are dated and rather worn looking). It is also some distance from the city centre, which is good and bad, depending what you are looking for and whether you have your own transport (which we did not).
The staff however were very efficient (at reception and in the restaurant) and helpful and seemed very well trained. Could have been a little more warm and welcoming but no bad experience as such.

Kia ora, thank you for your review, it is very much appreciated. The Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco is based on an Olde English theme and as such requires a certain petina. I will investigate your comments regarding dated and worn furnishings as we pride ourselves on providing a high standard of service and accommodation. Thank you for your kind words regarding our reception staff. I will pass this on to them. All the best for your future travels, haere ra, travel well. Karma Argyle

Flying visit to Nelson while on a road trip.
My hotel room was smaller than I'm used to having used the Accor group many times. Décor seemed a little dated.
No fridge or air con which surprised me. There was a ceiling fan however. Had a nice view of the estuary across the road. Road noise was not a concern. Not sure how busy nearby Nelson airport is but if the wind was blowing the wrong way could be an issue. Turns out there was a guests lounge which had a large fridge which would have been useful had I known about it.
A full cooked breakfast was part of my package which was the standard Accor buffet. Enjoyable with a sea view.
The room was comfortable & clean. The bed was comfortable.
Suggest the staff could be more forthcoming on the amenities' available to guests.
A good stay but not outstanding comparing to other Grand Mercure Hotels I've stayed at.

Tena koe Chris, Thank you very much for taking the time to review the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco. We very much appreciate your comments as it provides encouragement to our staff to always strive to exceed expectations. We offer a variety of room types and sizes, most of which have their own lounge and fridge. I apologize that you were not made aware of the guest lounge and fridge that was available for your use in the hotel block. I will pass your feedback on to our reception staff to be more mindful of this in the future. Thank you again for passing on your feedback. We wish you all the best for your future travels. May they be happy, healthy and safe. Haere ra, travel well. Karma Argyle

We were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness and character of our room. We thought the location might have been inconvenient but the off-peak drive into the centre of Nelson was less than 15 minutes. The location allowed us to get out and walk along the estuary and enjoy the fine weather at the time. The Grand Mercure would be our first choice for future visits to Nelson.

Arrived at 7.30 pm after a 3 hour drive (on our honeymoon) to find reception closed and a sign saying it wouldn’t be open until 10 am the next day. There was a number to call for “out of hours” arrivals which transferred to a sister hotel but nobody knew anything about our booking and said they’d call us back. They never did. We received no info about where to find our keys or access the room and were tired, disappointed and needed the bathroom. The restaurant next door is independent of the hotel and was closed for dinner and breakfast, but luckily one of the staff there had seen this issue before and guessed where they keys might have been left (under the “left key” box, in case anyone else has the same issue) and was fortunately correct.

The hotel is located on the edge of an industrial estate by the end of the runway at Nelson airport. I’m a pilot and have no problem with aircraft noise but it’s a training field and guests might want to be aware of this before booking. The views are ok although all the booking sites imply that it’s in an unspoiled rural location which is not the case.

The bed was comfortable and there are tea and coffee facilities in the rooms. The bathroom was not clean - the basin had definitely not been cleaned, there were suspicious brown marks on the floor by the toilet and the loo roll holder was broken, as was the bathroom extractor fan.

Despite booking for 2 nights we could not face a second and decided to leave a day early. In the whole time there we didn’t see a single member of staff.

Big benefit is the washer/dryer in your room! I had an upstairs room which was a little dated but overall comfortable. Hotel is a bit outside of town so we had to eat at the onsite restaurant. Dinner was pretty good but the breakfast buffet was more limited than other hotels I have been- only options are what is pre-prepared

This hotel is in a nice location overlooking the Estuary and not far from a small local town called Lincoln, also near the airport and the lovey Mapua Wharf. The room overlooked the front courtyard with views of the Estuary. The pandemic has put a toll on the hotel so not many residents. An amazing bar and Restaurant is on the site next door has recently opened and we ate there one night. They also do breakfast although we chose to drive out in the mornings. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and the bathroom was amazing!!

Certainly a unique and pretty place to stay. The room was a lot smaller than what I am use to but it was fit for two of us. We had a great outlook onto the estuary and walkways by the airport. There is plenty of seating and tables in the outdoor space outside the hotel with a lovely duck pond feature. The noise pollution from the main road and the airport was not a problem for us but I can see how it might upset some visitors. Plenty of parking available. Apart from one stain on the carpet our room was tidy. The bed was a good size and comfortable. We had access to Netflix on the smart TV but had to use our personal log on, (had to remember to log out). The rooms offer a small fridge, coffee, tea and jug though I would have preferred to cut my cheese with a knife over a teaspoon. Unfortunately our fridge leaked on the last day we stayed. Disappointing that our towels were not replaced daily. Would recommend eating at the pub across the road instead of the one next to the hotel. It’s called the Honest Lawyer, much cheaper. Overall the place was substantial to our needs.

Very disappointed with the service and accomodation . Upon checking in a asked about breakfast service . The guy checking me in said “ we have no restaurants on site , you can have breakfast over the road “ so I went across the road in the morning to get breakfast , they were not only shut , they never do breakfast .
During that day I returned to my room to do some work . The internet was off and concrete cutters where working in the room next to reception . Was told the horrific noise and vibrating was nearly done . It went on for two hours .
Shame as I was a regular stayer there for 3 years ( about 20 nights a year ) but new owners have dropped the service and guest experience. Will not go back

I booked a "Queen Standard" room directly with the hotel. The bed was a double, not a queen. The room was so small it would never have fit a queen bed.
How small? I had to put my rollaboard (my only luggage) into the shower enclosure to get enough room to walk to the bed. No chair in the room...there was no room for a chair!
The only powerpoint is in the bathroom...so I sat on the toilet to use my iPad while recharging it.
Good linens. Room seemed clean.
Kettle, and no toaster. Tiny fridge, which blocked access to one side of the bed.
No management on site at night, one guest forgot his room key in his room, and was locked out. And no one answered his texts or calls.
.
The room is only big enough for a 10 year old, and only if they were traveling alone.
