A truly authentic desert experience wrapped in Omani hospitality.
The tents are comfortable with solar lights and mozzie nets just in case - although we experienced none. Each tent has its own open air bathroom which is extremely clean and also each tent has a little outdoor seating area - a nice touch. The camp sits at the base of the largest dune in the area and offers shade but also the challenge of climbing to see sunset and sunrise. Meals are good and food is plentiful. What makes this camp stand out is the Omani owner's engagement with his guests (perfect English), his concern for their comfort and expectations and his obvious care of the environment. Dune bashing, camel rides and star gazing are available but no hard sell. Sitting round the fire after dinner with new friends was special. There were no highlights - it was all wonderful. Thank you Humaid.

This desert experience was the highlight of our trip to Oman and exceeded all expectations! The camp is located in a remote location at the base of the highest dune in this part of the desert The bedoin style tents are both perfectly suited to the environment and very comfortable. The food was ample and well prepared. The dune driving experience was remarkable as was the camel ride. But what made this experience even more exceptional was the owner and host. This camp is owned and run by a man who is indigenous to the area. And he speaks perfect English! His generous spirit and warmth were very special indeed!

Friendly host and attentive employees who do their very best for the guests. The camp is located further into the desert, so you are not bothered by dim lighting from villages or other camps. It is beautifully situated, next to one of the higher dunes in the desert, nice at sunrise or sunset.
The host will pick you up or accompany you with your car to the camp so you don't have to worry about how to get there (we had a 4x4 and could drive behind him, which was free. If you don't have a 4x4, he offers a transfer for a fee). He will give you a nice Omani welcome with dates, fruit and coffee and a conversation, very nice to be able to ask all our questions about Omani culture and life in Oman.
This is a smaller camp, without major luxuries, which felt like a more authentic desert experience to us. (Shower water was cold before, but we didn't mind that, we don't go to the desert for great luxury)
The food was very well prepared and delicious! We have not lacked anything here. Recommended!

We arrived at the Wahiba Desert Retreat Camp with two 4x4s together with our guide Alì and before arriving at the Camp, without warning us, he made us try the fabulous experience of Dune Bashing, that is, riding the dunes, crossing them, surfing them on board the off-road vehicle. It was very exciting and the drivers were very good.
At the Camp they welcomed us with fruit and tea, we rested for a moment, unloaded our luggage and then immediately set off on the dunes to enjoy a magnificent sunset. The sand in this type of desert is very compact and the dunes are easy to climb, even if it is still tiring, but once at the top, waiting for the sunset is priceless.
The camp tents are well equipped, an LED tablet allows a dim light, the advice is to always carry a torch with you when you know you will have to stay in the desert at night.
Outside each tent there is a bathroom and a private area with a carpet on which to lie down to enjoy a magnificent sky of stars.
Dinner was basic, but excellent, same for breakfast the next morning.
After dinner they lit a fire, around which they chatted and drank tea.
No animation, no typical music, I honestly didn't expect them, but looking back I think that a bit of Omani music around the fire increases the atmosphere of the desert experience.
We stayed at the end of October, in this period we highly recommend a night in the desert

We stayed with our family of 4 and had a great time. The experience was magical. The camp was surrounded by large majestic dunes in an isolated area of the desert. The host and other guests were very friendly which made for a great atmosphere in the camp. This stay made for a unique, relaxing and fun time !

You are picked up at a gas station and drive into the desert behind the owner. A small SUV with front-wheel drive can also drive there. The tent was small, the double bed fits in, but not much space otherwise. There was a small seating area at the tent. To see the sunset or sunrise you have to climb up a large dune. If you want you can go camel riding for 20 minutes for around 20 OMR (= around 50 €). I think that's too expensive. - Dinner and breakfast are in an open tent, original.
Didn't like it · Dinner and breakfast were rather simple, but OK.

We were two couples, from Germany and USA looking for a desert experience. We were not disappointed.
The location is incredible and the camp sites are well designed and comfortable. Homed provided us with warm hospitality, a good meal, a beautiful sunset hike and stargazing afterwards. The beds were comfortable and clean. Very quiet. No bugs and bathrooms good. In the morning a sunrise hike and a filling breakfast fallowed by camel rides.
Everything was according to plan and price. Not about luxury or sitting around staring at phones. We would definitely do it again and stay longer. A good trip would be two nights with a day trip to Wadi Bani Khalid for swimming in the heat of the day. So highly recommended and many thanks to Homed and his capable staff.

Authentic experience, no frills to distract from the beautiful location. Sustainable: solar panels to pump water from his own well deep under the ground. The water is used for the bathroom facilities in the camp. The owner also shares the water with local camel farmers, so their camels can drink.

Very nice camp. Dinner and breakfast were included and delicious, with something for everyone. The camp owner takes a lot of time for his guests and is happy to talk about life in Oman. We were very satisfied and we really enjoyed it!

We spend the new year's eve over there...
For this special evening,THEY just more than double the capacity of the camp (40 tents instead of 16). So, the toilets and bathrooms were shared and never cleaned...
The camel tour was overbooked (last tour at dark, the rest postponed to the next day at 7AM)
We were "invited" to get our evening meal at a fixed time :from 6 pm to 7pm.
At 7 pm we were "invited" to leave the restaurant for the next group and the same for the third one...
So we were sitting around a fire outside... with an instant coffee....Since they increased the capacity , the could manage to get at least music or something for that special evening... NOTHING!
Slowly the people left to their tents...the atmosphere was totally flat.
The staff was fully busy with the meal of the other groups (and after with the cleaning of the place...). Some people succeed to reach midnight but just because they had their own beverages with them...
To conclude cupidity kills the hospitality!
