Detailed Reviews
4 of us stayed here in 2 rooms in a superior studio. Rooms were large but I got the feeling that the rooms had simply been 'tidied up' with a lick of paint and some new curtains to justify the cost. Most of the furniture was very old and scratched, there was a large crack in the bathroom sink, a hole in the wall leading into the bathroom and dusty ceilings. The hotel was swarming with flies and they were constantly landing in the cooked breakfast trays which had no lids on. We suggested they put the metal lids on but nothing was done. We stayed 4 nights there and the beds were only made on the third morning. When we complained, we were told we needed to let them know if we wanted the beds made ??? (we were not asking for clean sheets, just for them to make the bed. When they did go in, dirty glasses weren't replaced, and the bin wasn't emptied. We paid over $200 per night per room so I would expect a better room service and better overall standard of room. Great size roo though and good location

We visited for one night recently. The room, while small, was perfectly adequate although is seemed somewhat damp and possibly unused for sometime? The location at the back of the property meant we had no view but it was very quiet, which we appreciated. Unfortunately the bed was sadly lacking in comfort, with an old innersprung mattress that I imagine hasn't been upgraded in many years. I really don't think its adequate to provide a bed of this standard when you are charging over $200 per night. Its what I might expect from a cheap bach rental. We would not stay again due to the bed. On another note, while the heatpump was good to see, the filter had not been changed or cleaned and as a result we were reluctant to use it. Fortunately the excellent buffet breakfast went some way to make up for the bad nights sleep.

Dear 300barbarag, Thank you very much for taking the time to post a response. I appreciate your feedback as that gives us teh opportunity to see where we can improve. I am very glad to see that the breakfast quality was able to make your stay more pleasant and I am sorry to see that the bed was not comfortable for you. I am looking at the beds, and am slowly replacing through what is required. I will look at this one sooner. Thank you for letting me know. Kind Regards, Darren

There's no escaping that this is an older hotel. Forget that though and enjoy the warm and friendly service.
Our room was impeccably clean and staff were so accommodating when we said our Grandson (3) was having a sleepover. We were able to choose a room service (or not) over our stay which was great for saving on unnecessary daily linen changes.
The hotel restaurant offers breakfast ( continental or cooked) and the dinner we had on site was beautiful.
We have rebooked already for an overnight stay in a couple of weeks.

The room clean & place generally good but Road noise especially on front block continues as the Road is busy 24 hours . Single glazed windows with no insulation form noise. Thanks ear. Plugs if you want to sleep . Also the stench of smell from the Buffer dinner if you don’t like curry or nauseating odour avoid the bar area .
Buffer breakfast was ok . Poached egg made on request served well .
Get a room in the block away from the Road if you want to sleep though .

We recently needed 1 nights accommodation in Whangarei over the weekend and Discovery Settlers was perfect! The room was clean with all amenities one could need. The buffet breakfast was great and A+ service from management. Excellent value for what you pay and would definitely recommend to anyone.

While the staff are all friendly, the accommodation is below par. The smell of mold hits you as soon as you enter reception and the dining area.
Mold can clearly be seen on the window frames as you walk along the rooms.
I ordered the steak for room service which arrived quite quickly, but unfortunately the veges were cold and the steak was rubbery. A bit below expectations for the price

We have just had my Nanas birthday here and it was an excellent event. Pau and the team were so helpful and the food and service was 10/10. They made it easy to cater for a 100 people ranging from teens to 90’s. It is definitely somewhere I recommend going for events

Please look after Pau the same way she looks after us! She is amazing. She makes mine and the boys stay very good. Pretty much the only reason we come back is cos of her. The food is yum, portions could be bit more for us though as some of the boys don't come breakfast yet we are still charged for it, but if we ask for extra food they don't really give it cos it aint in the "budget" of $110 that our company pays for food everyday.

We did not feel comfortable being rushed through between 6-8pm, we attended the buffet when we were ready.
(The Customer is always right)
The meal was very average at ($40 a head) ???
We have one positive comment, We felt, Elsie was amazing, I feel she is great with customers and she just needs a bit more training. Well done Elsie 👍
On the following morning, there were customers looking for Espresso Coffee, the staff were under trained, .......I jumped in there to help ....they were very grateful. This place needs to Train their capable staff and there would be smiles all around :)
The breakfast Chef was a lovely approachable person, cooked great food, and made us feel welcome.

I got a B&B deal for 2 nights.
The receptionist was excellent and friendly. The room was OK, perhaps a little tired around the edges. The bed was massive and very comfortable. The shower was a little difficult to get an acceptable temperature. Covid apparently was the excuse for not having the bed re-made each day.
The room was overlooking the road but was not too noisy. The second night the next door residients stayed awake until 1.00am and were noisy so the walls cannot be that thick.
The 'maid' was lovely, cheerful and very helpful.
The breakfast buffet was very good. A reasonably varied choice and good quality and being a buffet you could eat as much, or little, as you liked.
Not the best hotel I have stayed in but I would probably stay again.
