Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for a week to explore the area round Whanganui. The room we had did not have a stove top, only a microwave but I believe other rooms did. Apart from that, this motel is extremely clean and looks like it has been refurbished fairly recently. The shower was very powerful, which was great for hair washing! The bed was massive and very comfortable. Dishcloths, tea towels and washing up liquid are supplied and the dishcloths and tea towels are changed daily. There was plenty of storage for our clothes etc. There is a sign, which discourages the eating of anything with a pungent odour.
If you want to do washing, you can do it between 3 and 7 pm but sometimes if you ask, you can do it earlier. There are two massive rotary airers outside, fully supplied with pegs, or a tumble drier. The cost for washing is $2 a load.
There is plenty to do in Whanganui, we did the paddle steamer Waimarie, Durie Hill Tower, Whanganui Museum and Virginia Lake. They are all walking distance from the motel, if you’re reasonably fit.

Second stay at Kings Gate. Still a great find, friendly helpful welcome. Room well presented, very clean and comfortable. Situated just off the main street, the location is remarkably quiet and just a few minutes walk to the restaurants.

I have written previous reviews of King Court, the last time was in 2017. The motel is under new management since our last stay and high standards have been maintained by Paul & Mandy.
Prior to arrival, staff are responsive and friendly in email or on the phone. They followed through with their helpful approach on arrival.
The room is very clean. We stayed in the Exec 1 b/r unit which offers a lounge area with couch, desk, dining table and kitchenette facilities (microwave and double burner), and a separate bedroom with good size wardrobe and chest of drawers.
A daily service of fresh towels, emptied bins, and tea and coffee top up is included.
Excellent mattress, range of pillows, blankets/covers, water pressure is moderate (seems this way across Whanganui), shower head is fairly low (tall people may have to bend to wash their hair).
Wifi signal was sensitive - I had to stay in the lounge area, otherwise it would drop out. Signal strength seemed to vary during the day, perhaps as other guests were trying to access.
Over the course of our 5-night stay in Nov 2022, the motel was fully booked. Given this, we were very appreciative of how quiet it is. There was little to no noise from other guests. And there is barely any traffic noise.
It's so easy to walk around the corner to Victoria Avenue and be in the thick of the shops - you have eateries, supermarkets and other facilities within a short walking distance.
I continue to recommend Kings Court to anyone looking for clean, quiet accommodation in Whanganui.

We had been staying at this property multiple times in the last few years but things have changed. Our stay required a quiet room as we were visiting the town for a competition & the new owners assured us every room is quiet. However that is not the case. We stayed in room #4 and on two nights (out of 4) there were people drinking & talking loudly outside our room until at least 10pm (the 1st night was till 10.30pm when the owners told them to pack up).
There is also a very bright floodlight in the neighbouring car yard over the back fence that shines into the room.
The mattress on the bed is also very soft, to the extent that on a shared bed, if someone moves, the other person is awoken.
During our 4-night stay, the kettle shorted out the electricity supply but the owners replaced it immediately with no further issues.
The new owners are lovely and friendly and are making efforts to upgrade the rooms. Perhaps things might be better in the future.

Hi Victoria, thanks for taking the time to post a review. We regularly have guests comment on how quiet the Motel is in terms of lack of noise from the surrounding area, especially as we are so centrally located. We do have notices in our rooms, and in the in-room compendiums, asking guests to be respectful of others late at night and early in the morning. Unfortunately not everyone reads or respects such requests and we do occasionally have to ask people to desist if they are talking outside at a late hour. Thankfully this does not happen often but can happen at any Motel and we are sorry that you had your sleep disturbed during your stay. The lights from the neighbouring car yard is being dealt with by the use of additional blinds at the back windows and, as you have noted, we are completing other upgrades to the rooms, including the beds. We hope to see you again next time you are in Whanganui.

My wife and I had a couple of nights here in a king studio on our first visit to Whanganui on a road trip around the North Island.
The location was handy, close to the main street, the unit #4 was clean and tidy, bed was comfy, room centrally heated, with a small table, 2 seater couch, functional kitchen (although could have used a couple more sharp knives), and we thought good value. The only cautionary mention was the hot water was really hot!
Would happily stay here again if the opportunity arose.

We hadn't booked in advance, but happened to find this wee gem in Whanganui. The host was friendly and helpful, the unit was just beautiful with everything we needed. It was quiet and not far from great eateries AND it was an excellent price. We will certainly be staying here again and can recommend this motel to other travellers.

Nice, neat, clean, single storey motel style rooms with parking right outside the door. Friendly lady on reception who was very informative about the area. Nice town, lots of eating and shops within walking distance although if you drove into town it was all metered parking. Thank you to one of the trip advisors who had said to request a fan for the room as no air conditioning. The fan was already in the room and did a wonderful job of keeping us cool all night on a hot stay. Spacious room, large bed, crisp sheets, for us the bed was a little on the firm side, could maybe do with a topper pad but only stayed one night. Great kitchen area although we did not use, separate loo from the shower area. Our room was 12 which was at the end of the block but people were respectful of one another and the whole area was quiet. If going for breakfast I would highly recommend Parnells (you also get 10% off when you show them your room key), which had everything from full cooked breakfasts, sweet and savoury counter goods, we had the most wonderful bacon butty there!

Excellent accommodation close to the main street but very quiet. Off-street parking adjacent to each room.
The owners are very friendly and helpful and the rooms and surrounds very clean and tidy.
We had a great room, surprisingly spacious with kitchen with hotplates and microwave.
The bed was comfy with excellent linen and great bedside lighting.
Good sized bathroom with a separate toilet.
Easy walk along the main street through the shopping area. Supermarkets walking distance but probably better to drive if you buy lots of food.
Laundry facilities are available in the afternoon and early evening and an iron and ironing board are in the wardrobe.
There is an outdoor table and chairs at each unit to enjoy the garden and birds.
Highly recommended

We loved our one night stay at Kings Court Motel. We were in the Executive One-bedroom Apartment and it was very spacious, beautifully decorated and extremely clean. The bed was King size bed was very comfortable and we did not hear any traffic noise and slept well. It was close to the main street of interesting shops and you can easily walk there. The supermarket was just a 5 minute walk too. We would definitely recommend Kings Court Motel and it will be our first choice when we next visit Whanganui. (Whanganui is a beautiful town!)
