We were in a twin room with garden courtyard, which had a queen and single beds so was able to add a guest for an extra $25/night. We had everything we needed, though it was a bit on the smaller side for 3 people. From check in to check out, we didn't have to interact with a person- we received our room number via a message and the key was inside. This worked well for us as we didn't have any issues. The bathroom was surprisingly modern, but it had no hanging space at all and the cabinet under the sink was a bit lopsided from water damage. The shower temperature fluctuated a little if someone was also using water in the kitchen. We enjoyed the sunset by the beach that was very close by.

From the first email they sent, I felt welcome. Arrived at the motel, contactless, which is good. Beautiful unit.Spotless and clean. Bed's were comfortable with extra pillows, electric blankets, extra blankets as well. Shower was awesome and heaps of hot water. Toiletries provided. Kitchen was excellent with a full oven and heaps of cutlery and plates, not just the amount of people in the unit. Fridge and freezer was a great surprise. All the sky channels, movie's sports ect. Short Walk outside of the unit and there is the water. Carport for the car and a table and chairs outside to relax. Heaps of windows for the hot days. Staff the next morning were so friendly. I am going to be staying there again soon and highly recommend it to travelers

Loved being back in NZ, even though the storm stopped all the summer sun we relaxed, sky movies, walked out to the waterfromt, enjoyed the sea air.
The room/living area was large, good size bathroom, kitchen with all the pots n pans, cutlery, fridge and microwave , exactly what we needed.
Friendly locals, loved the shops in Thames, everyone we encountered was just great.
Recommended to all who enjoy the seaside.
The only noise was people parking up at the reserve to check out the views.
We will be back.
Thankyou

Our unit (Number 5 out of 8) had a bedroom and a separate lounge / dining / kitchen area, with beds for four people. Clean, comfortable and welcoming. All the staff were pleasant and helpful - a thoroughly good stay!

The fridge freezer was a good size, and came with a complimentary carton of milk. There was a microwave, and a full size cooker with 4 plates and oven. The shower was good, and we were very happy with our stay. We particularly liked the shady parking space allocated to us right next to the unit. There is a free to use laundry near reception, and wifi.

The motel is about 2 miles north of Thames, with a local shop (8 - 8) within walking distance. Not much else around for dining. Thames has plenty of shops, cafes and fuel stations. Next door to the motel is a small nature reserve with a nesting area, and some beach next to the creek from which to view the sunsets, and the dark sky Milky Way (NB The most sandy beaches are on the other side of the Coromandel)

Our recent stay at this older motel revealed a mixed experience. We had booked a room for four and were allocated a unit with a double bed and a single bed in one room, and another single bed oddly placed in the kitchen. Unfortunately, this bed was directly under the air conditioner, rendering it unusable at night due to the cold.

On the positive side, the rooms were generally clean. However, a closer look revealed details like un-swept areas under the beds, indicating a lack of thorough cleaning. The beds, while acceptable, were notably hard, which might not suit everyone's comfort preferences.

We had hoped for a larger unit with a direct sea view, especially since our stay was longer than average. Regrettably, this was not fulfilled, leading to some disappointment. It's worth noting that while the motel's location is excellent for exploring the Coromandel Peninsula, it's not ideal for those primarily seeking a beach experience.

The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the sunset. Although it didn't set directly into the sea, the view of the sun dipping behind the mountain ridge was quite spectacular. In summary, while the motel offers basic accommodations and stunning sunset views, it could greatly benefit from renovation and more attention to detail in cleaning.

Another great stay at sunset motel . Always super clean and comfortable. Thanks Diane for holding onto our bag we left behind. She is always helpful and cheerful. Sunset motel was central when on our way to bay of islands and a great 2 night stop over for our dog and ourselves

We have spent a long weekend here twice in the last couple of months as it is such a lovely place to stay with dogs. Right on the beachfront makes it lovely to watch the sunrise and sunset and to walk the pooches. This is the pick of the motels in Thames, it is away from the main road and has lovely grounds
It now has 2 brand new spacious bathrooms
We enjoy the Thames vibe and this motel is very close to that, worth going to the Sat morning markets

We meet up in Thames with our daughter in law & two grandchildren and choose to stay at the sunset motel on the 22nd to the 24th of January . We booked directly with them & explained what sort of accommodation we required. They gave us a 3 bed room unit with heaps of space and a outside deck with ocean views.
We were very impressed with the unit and could not fault it in any way. It was a awesome place to stay with our family & to create special memories.
The staff were super friendly & helpful & we would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it to other people we know. The unit was very clean & well catered for & was great value for money.

We recently stayed here for a little weekend getaway and we already cannot wait to return. The motel is located in a perfect location to enjoy and explore the coromandel region, short distance to thames town with great cafes and the most incredible evening sunsets just a minute walk from our room. The rooms are clean & modern with the most comfortable beds and incredible shower pressure. If you are looking for a little getaway to relax, look no further - this is the place for you!

Motel was easy to contact and book online, the check-in details were provided as soon as payment went through, so we had nice flexibility in our arrival. Facilities were cozy but had plenty of space for 2, with a third bed available in the suite. The unit was simple but tidy, and though warm in evening (while facing the sunset) it cooled quickly with its own A/C. Bathroom was small but clean and in working order. Kitchenette was great for basic food storage/prep, and the small porch out front was lovely for morning coffee outside. Quick drive to Thames town. Gorgeous sunset views.
