While the Hotel is in ideal location and is set in beautiful gardens the rooms, while being spacious are tired and showing their age. From the ceiling cornice coming away from the ceiling to the front door electronics card latch frequently losing it’s memory. I believe there are plans in place to build a five star resort but for current residents some much needed maintenance would not go amiss.
Harrigan's had been recommended to us and while we didn't want lunch I wanted to check it out so we stopped in for a beer before returning home. This is a huge establishment I gather they need all the space they have. There is a huge choice of beers on tap and we chose a Pale Ale and a Lager. The meals coming our looked really good and the people around us seemed to be enjoying the food.
Large room with two king beds, a huge shower and a separate spa. A lounge to sit on and a table and chairs to eat at. The dining room at the hotel is great and you can get breakfast for $20 per person. Full hotel facilities with bar and an indoor bbq for dinner
I stayed one night at Harrington's in Pokolbin in Aug 2022. Reception closed at 5pm and it's a shame I didn't check the room out properly prior to that. Needing a loo visit, the first thing I noted was no paper "seal" across the toilet to indicate it had been cleaned. I soon discovered why when I lifted the lid. There, to my shock were somebody's poop remnants in the bowl. It was disgusting. After flushing it and using disinfectant wipes, I could finally use it. That's when I noticed the state of the floor both in and out of the shower. It was all so grotty! At least the sheets were clean...I did check, but the carpet wasn't well cleaned. In the morning I opened the curtains for a view of the vineyard. But the patio ruined it. Dirty, green with slime in patches and weeds growing between the pavers. The upholstery on the chairs was also filthy. Definitely not a value for money experience and I will never stay again. On check out, I complained about the turds and lack of cleaning. All I got was oh...I'll let the cleaners know. Bit late Luv. I told her they would not get a pleasing review. I can say turds in the loo was something I'd not experienced in a "clean" motel before. I new experience I'm not grateful for. The pub and food however, were fantastic.…
It is a great pub right in the heart of Pokolbin and the fabulous wine growing district that is the Hunter Valley. It looses a couple of points though for the following reasons 1) dining - lunch and dinner are quite good but in all good conscious I can’t recommend breakfast, you will struggle to find any staff, We stood there for a long time waiting to be seated and when a waitress finally took us to a table she promptly disappeared again leaving us to find our own menus. On doing so we discovered that the options were VERY limited - basically pig out bacon & eggs or pig put hot cakes. Plenty of cafes in the retail precinct in the very close Hunter Valley Garden so that would be my breakfast recommendation. 2) accomodation - rooms are clean and comfortable but in need of refreshment as scratches chips and cracks were quite common. The pub itself was recently extended and refurbished but evidently the budget didn’t extend to the rooms. In fairness I would stay here again but some improvement in the areas noted is needed.…
Attended a family wedding in the Hunter and a family member suggested that some of the guests stay at Harrigan's. We couldn't check in till 3pm and as we were being picked up by the bus at 3 pm it was a tight squeeze with the bus waiting for many guests. The room was ok but very dated, needs a bit of an overhaul but completely understand Covid has not been friendly for any hotels. Heater did not work very well and even temp was dialed up to 31 it just blew cool air. Not a nice environment to come back to on a cool evening. Breakfast was really disappointing, food was undercooked and cold with feedback to staff not really handled well. They looked completely overwhelmed. Coffee slopped in saucers, eggs were not cooked properly, and bacon looked like it had been boiled, not fried along with soggy half-cooked toast. Very disappointing and whilst the wedding venue was spectacular in an adjoining town Harrigans left a lot to be desired. Some care and attention to small details would assist.…
Thought this would b great accommodation given what we were being charged. Found room very dated and in need of complete overhaul. Threadbear carpet, only one bedside lamp, furniture in rundown state. Very musky smell when furst entering room. Should have read reviews first. Would not recommend for price charged. Only saving grace is the pub is on premises. Definitely would pay to check reviews before booking here
We went to dinner with 4 families and our kids, we were spoken down too, refused a drink for no reason and extremely disappointed with the disrespect we received. I suggest if your a large group do not go to this place. The food was ok but for the price not the best. Very disappointed.
Ripped off. Charged us extra $90 per pathetic, dirty, room than what we booked it for. German cockroaches over the ceiling at night Bathroom disgusting and full of mould. Smelt like bleach Wall tiles falling off. Paint falling off. Absolutely disgusting. Will never return
Harrigan's is in the center of the wine region, the accommodation is spacious, comfortable and good value for money. The bar and restaurant are one the same site as accommodation, food is great pub grub, drinks are reasonably prices and the hotel has an expansive area for settling inside or outside. Ideal place to use as a base for tripping around during the day and settling in in the evening.
