Absolutely amazing. We spent 2 nights here for my birthday and could not me more impressed with the stay. Nerina and Alistair were absolutely lovely, they are a friendly face and have a wonderful property. Definitely book a room with a fireplace if you stay in winter, it adds to the atmosphere. Comfortable beds, great continental breakfast delivered in the morning and all round serenity! We can’t wait to come back.
This hotel is very centrally located in the Hunter valley area. We enjoyed a very nice and quite time during our stay here. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The room even came with a fireplace that we truly enjoyed every night because it was a little chilly for us being that it was fall time and we are from Hawaii. The breakfast was delivered to our room every morning and we enjoyed sitting on the veranda enjoying it. During the evenings we took a walk around the property and saw many kangaroos and wallabies. Nerina and Alastair were always available to facilitate any of our requests and were able to give advice about the local community. Very nice place to stay and we will definitely do it again when we go back to the Hunter valley area.
Amidst the uncertainty of COVID we traveled from Bowral in the Southern Highlands to spend a relaxing weekend in the Hunter. Staying in a veranda suite featuring a huge Smart TV, supper comfortable bed and breakfast delivered to our door in a picnic basket. The room is spacious and the veranda is a wonderful addition allowing a relaxing choice. Highly recommended and we will be returning.
Always great to be met with a friendly smile and both our hosts picked this up and ran with it. The hotel itself is a quaint, country style cottage and seperate carriage house;split into several generous sized rooms. Our room was spotlessly clean, and though the period wooden style windows and doors were a little draughty(especially visiting toward the end of autumn for an exceptionally wet start to the weekend), there was ample bedding available as well as a split system heating/air conditioning unit that assured the room remained comfortable both day and night. In addition, breakfast servings were generous and are delivered to your door, fresh each morning. The carriages provides great value for money in comparison to its competitors and would definitely see us return as repeat custom. …
My family and I stayed here for my wedding next door. Extremely disappointed with our entire experience. There was a miss-communication with our room allocations which was handled very poorly and unprofessionally. We were approached on the balcony by the owners in an overly aggressive and rude manor which could have otherwise be handled in an entirely different and professional manor. No hot water in our cottage the first night and the cleaners came into our room 30min before our checkout time. No privacy, the owners came over various times throughout our stay including their dog walking around the kitchen whilst my bridal party ate and got ready. I left in tears and extremely upset to what should otherwise be a happy day as a newly married couple.
We had a lovely restful night at Carriages. We booked room 7 upstairs with own little balcony overlooking the garden which was lovely and quiet and a great place for a drink or to read. We had a dip in the pool to cool off - again very relaxing. A lovely breakfast basket appeared at our door around 8am - such a nice touch - the bed was comfy with good quality linen - all in all a wonderful stay and highly recommended. Thank you ☺️
From the moment we met our hosts, Nerina and Alistair, they made us feel very welcome! Our accommodation was perfect for us! Lots of leisurely time spent on the wide verandah looking out over the property. Its centrally located in the heart of Pokolbin but in a lovely quiet area. Close to all the wineries and attractions of the area. Each morning a delicious breakfast basket was delivered to our room. Thoroughly recommend The Carriages and will definitely go back! Thank you for a lovely 6 days!
Our second visit was just as wonderful as our first. Thank You Nerina and Alastair! Your hard work delivers a wonderful, secluded and peaceful sojourn that is so accessible to the Hunter activities. It’s a weekend away experience to be taken again and again. The rooms were spacious and beds so comfortable that late sleep-ins were hard to resist! We love the picnic basket breakfast that gave a good foundation to the day of wine tasting when we were spoilt for choice in Pokolbin with welcoming cellar door tasting and food experiences - Baume, Brokenwood, Lindeman’s, Hunters Quarter, Pooles Rock, David Hook, Tulloch, Briar Ridge, Hunter Distillary(Polkolbin) only to name a few favourites!
This was a special trip for our anniversary and we were not disappointed. The grounds themselves are beautiful and peaceful and really well located. The accommodation itself was fantastic and very clean. We managed to book a room with a log fire and Alistair made sure we had wood available each day - sitting in front of the fire each evening was perfect. The sun came out on our last morning so we were able to have breakfast on the terrace as the kangaroos bounced past. Idyllic We will definitely be going back.
We were made to feel very welcome at this hotel. Absolutely beautiful location, awesome picnic basket breakfasts, and very helpful family owners. Make sure to ask them about recommendations to visit nearby, as they can tell you best boutique wineries to try and very helpfully provided membership for a day for some. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a nice and homely place to stay in Hunter Valley.
