Hotel's Favorite
Stayed for 4 nights in 1 room facing superior lake view.
Pros :
- views, views & views!! AMAZING!
No words to describe.
Cons :
- Hotel needs a major makeover e.g. the elevator which is very old style. Like in 80s or 90s.
- Pillows are quite soft but its ok for me. But for those who prefer hard pillows, not sure if there are any selections
- When i enter the room , theres always a unique kind of smell. Maybe staffs need to look at them.
Otherwise, breakfast was simple and decent.
Pls come to the hotel for the amazing views. Not sure if other hotels in queenstown will have these kind of views. But over here, its perfect to catch the sunrise and sunset.
Abit of distance from the main town of Queenstown. But its a good 20- 30 mins walk uphill or downhill. Well you can consider as cardio. But those who have knee or leg issues, pls consider uber.
Staffs are generally ok, but one or two staffs can be more friendlier. Not rude though. There are saunas as well but unisex. Hope can have separate males and females sauna.

The hotel is quite a distance out of the main town of Queentown and up a fairly steep hill. The hotel needs to have a shuttle bus although there is a bus into the town every 20 minutes from the stop outside the Heritage hotel at the top of the hill (cost 5 NZD each way unless you get a GO card for 15 NZD for 2 people return)
The room had the most fantastic views and we found it to be clean and comfortable.
Bar staff were great and the food in the evening was good.
The breakfast was awful, particularly the hard fried eggs and generally not as much choice as with some other hotels

My wife and I stayed at the Mercure Resort last week for 5 nights. We asked for a ground floor room as we had golf clubs and we were given a garden review room. Our stay was ruined by the large number of tour groups that invaded the entire complex. Our stayed coincided with the Chinese new year. They created a lot of noise late at night and we had no sleep for 2 nights. Children were running up and down in the corridors well after 11pm and many loud voices were heard until 1.30am. The main restaurant was excellent and food outstanding with very good staff and friendly service. The pool is excellent for a late swim at the end of the day. All staff were excellent. Breakfast was ruined by the large crowds and confined space, so we only ate there twice. Parking is somewhat a lucky dip with a shortage of spaces. The location out of the center of town is a plus as you can park on the street. The public bus to town is very expensive at $5 per trip so we did not use. Overall the resort is recommended provided you get a quiet room and a good nights sleep.

This hotel had beautiful views from our room but overall the resort felt a bit dated, although our room was
clean and well presented. The TV quality and reception was poor - this could be improved. WiFi was not free and had to be purchased separately. The in-room Heat pump was very much needed, although it took a while to warm up, it was consistent and appreciated!
We arrived in the midst of level 3 Covid restrictions, meaning the spa pool was closed which was a disappointment but health and safety first! We ordered food and drinks from the lounge bar to take back to our room for dinner - this was delivered promptly which was great, although we trooped back to the bar for one cocktail that missed being delivered. Staff were courteous, and overall it was a nice quick stay.

This review came 10 months late! We stayed for 3 days in Dec 2019, pre-Covid and on hindsight, were grateful we managed to have a holiday in NZ before the worldwide travel restrictions started.
We had a choice of a few hotels in the Accor group. While the Novotel Queenstown was great for its proximity to the bustling area in Queenstown; we loved the wonderful views advertised in the Mercure website; especially if you got a lakeview room. Mercure did not disappoint as the room turned out exactly the way we imagined it; we wake up to beautiful views of the Remarkables mountains every morning. The breakfast room also looked out onto the mountain range. Getting into town take about 15 min by foot; from the hotel, you had to walk upslope some 300m and then downslope subsequently before you reach the lake area where you can stroll along the lake.
On days when you had to carry heavy stuff and did not wish to walk, Uber is available for a small fee - about $5 to $10 if i remember correctly. Also, I remember the hotel provided us a bus pass that gives discounts on the bus rides to town, but since there were 4 of us, it was cheaper to take Uber than wait for the bus which was not that frequent.

Yes the view was great and the staff were very friendly however walking through the hallway to get to our room it smelt very mouldy and was extremely cold even with the panel heaters on the wall going. Upon arriving to our room it was very dark and extremely cold considering the heat pump was on 22 degrees.
The bathroom was definitely an eye opener with the towel rail hanging right next to the toilet so when you had a shower the towel would drape really close to the edge of the toilet.
There were no extra blankets in the cupboard and the heat pump was a no go and we had it on 28 degrees and just didn't heat the room even with the temperature being -3 outside it certainly felt like that in the room.
The pillows on the bed were really uncomfortable and hard so with all of this were found it really hard to get a good nights sleep.

Dear Kym D, Thanks for sharing your experience. Please accept my sincere apologies for not meeting your expectations. I believe I may have found the room that you are referring to based on similar feedback on another travel forum and I can understand your perspective in relation to the towel rail. We are currently working on a refurbishment project and I can assure you that this will be fixed. I will also get the Air Con unit tested to see if there is any issue however please do not hesitate to contact our reception team any time during your stay if there is any issue as we can always try to fix it as quickly as possible or offer you a solution such as a room move. thanks again and hopefully you'll give us an opportunity to provide a better experience in the future. Warm regards, Prasheel

Was a pleasant stay and staff was very caring and helpful. Neat rooms and good breakfast. Good facilities available on-site, food was nice too but found bit expensive for the portion size you get as compared to some restaurants in town. Overall great place to stay and great views

We stayed here 4 years ago and had a great time. But in those 4 years not much has changed at the hotel. The hotel still continues because of the great views of the lake. The interior of the hotel is quite dated and is in need of a refurb.
We complained about the hygiene of the toilet seat hinges and reception said that the matter would be attended to. When we returned to the room that evening the cleaning staff must have spent at least 10 seconds on the cleaning job. Photos attached, before and after, can you tell the difference???
The head of house keeping needs to check every room at least once a week. The hygiene standards must be improved.

Dear Vinnie01, Thank you for your loyalty and choosing to stay at the Mercure Queenstown Resort. The guest experience is of utmost concern to us and it was our pleasure to take care of you during your time in Queenstown. We have several refurbishments and upgrades planned for 2020 in which address your areas of concern, we are positive you will enjoy the additions and changes on your next visit. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the previous one. We were disappointed to read our Housekeeping team felt short in ensuring you had a positive memorable stay. The team is known for being extremely detailed orientated and are often highlighted in guest reviews for their cleaning. We have followed up with the Executive Housekeeper with your feedback so she can commence re-training with the staff on during your stay. It is important we rectify the issue and maintain quality to ensure every guest is taken care of during their stay. We thank you for providing this feedback as it allows us to address the issue and improve for the future. It is our hope you give us the opportunity to serve you better in the near future. Kind Regards Lisa Ireland General Manager

We had a king room on ground 04, the view of the lake was fantastic and uninterrupted, actually felt like you were sitting in a movie viewing the wide screen, we moved our lounge chairs to face the window and had premier seats. The king bed was great with 4 pillows to choose from, room safe and fridge and tea making facilities available, tea&coffee replaced daily. The bathroom was adequate, perhaps a little outdated from what you expect from a modern Mercure, amenities were refreshed daily. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We dined twice in the restaurant, the menu is currently limited as they are still getting over from covid and need more guests and kitchen staff, and the view is fantastic. There are washing machines and dryers available on the ground floor for a modest fee. The only drawback was the fan in our air conditioning unit did not operate so it only pushed out a modest amount of hot or cold air. Its a fair walk back to the town, and coming back its a steep uphill climb for the last 500 metres so you need to be fit

Booked this at late notice and was pleasantly surprised with the welcome and very friendly accommodating staff. Nothing was too much trouble including a special request to freeze some food overnight before our journey home, milk for our toddler and extra towels which was no trouble at all. Room was clean and view absolutely magnificent. For the price the room was certainly worth the money only negative is it could do with a better TV and a freshen up of paint and carpet soon. Overall a great one night stay and would return to this hotel.

Our friendly team is our one of the most valuable asset & your review is another validation for us. I have noted your comments about the TV and would like to mention that we have been working on an exciting project to refresh the hotel including the public areas.
