BreakFree On Cashel Christchurch is a hotel that garners mixed reactions from its guests. Its central location is widely celebrated for ease of access to city attractions and transport. While the hotel's eclectic atmosphere and cleanliness earn praise, the rooms are often described as small and cramped, with some guests finding the layout and wear less appealing despite the clean conditions. The quirky amenities add to the charm, although opinions on their practicality vary. Service is generally regarded as friendly, and many guests feel the hotel provides good value for money.

For budget conscious travellers that are looking for clean and contemporary rooms, I always recommended them to our peers. The hotel has got a good vibe at the common area and that the room I visited was funky albeit a tad small. Last week, due to work necessity, we booked our accommodation there. Normally, we would have booked into IBIS but the price point was ridiculously high (afterall, IBIS is a 3 star hotel). We booked into BreakFree with no expectation. Yes, Accor member could accumulate points here too. To much our pleasant surprise, we were placed into its largest room there, and it had got all bells and whistles that were normally provided at IBIS anyway. WiFi here was strong too. The only negate point about our stay was its very low water pressure. Hot shower was a let down. Also, the gradient of the floor was on the wrong side, and the water ran into the room. The moment water went down the drain hole, a horrible stench wafted out into the bathroom. I don't think this is something that BreakFree could rectify. It is afterall an older office building that was converted into a hotel. I wouldn't hesitate coming back to stay at the hotel yet again. There are a lot of multi storey public car park around the hotel and so, parking isn't an issue. Morning breakfast on the ground floor covered all the basics and at $19.50+GST for a cooked breakfast, it's competitively priced.

I stayed here for 5 nights. I got the deal where room service is not included(an additional charge if I wanted it cleaned daily) which was okay with me as I wasn't sharing the room with anyone.
The is no wardrobe - just a few hangers to hang your jacket/clothes(see picture).
The bed is a queen size(I think) but because of the placement of the bed against the wall its okay for one person but if 2 then it may be difficult for the 2nd person to come out without the 1st person having to move. Just so you know.
Decent size room for one.
Centrally located to the shops/malls/restaurants.
Friendly and helpful front staff.

We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. We had a nice sized family room with a double and two bunks. Most comfortable beds of all the places we stayed on this trip. The bathroom was small but clean and efficient. We were happy that our room was on an outside perimeter and had a window. We would not have known to request a window and it looks like rooms in the center of the building might not have a window. Nice that the hotel had a bar and restaurant on the main floor. Location was very convenient, right in the center of Christchurch and it was great to be able to walk to stores and restaurants. If you have a car, parking might not be convenient and is paid parking on the street or in the nearby lot.

I have stayed here before, but not as a couple. The rooms are teeny tiny, with pretty much zero privacy. There is a frosted glass door between the bed and the w/c, meaning one can hear everything - even in a relationship that is comfortable and trusting that is a testing situation. The bed is comfortable, clean, no musty smell common in some hotels, but tall - the room would not be accessible for someone with mobility issues, the space, the bed height, the room and amenities layout, and the fire doors between the lift and our room make this able bodied only. That said breakfast was a buffet full English cooked and the price was amazing, parking was an unexpected extra at $19 per day ( usually included in the rate)

My stay at Breakfree on Cashel was three nights, and I booked the property due to it being reasonably priced for what was on offer. Initially, I thought I was in one of the inward facing rooms, but I ended up with a window so was pleasantly surprised by this - the upgrade may have come about as I am an Accor member.

The room itself was small, but as I was a solo traveller I had plenty of room. The only area where it was a bit of a tight squeeze was in the bathroom. The room was well equipped with lots of amenities, including a small fridge, TV and mood lighting (this was fun to play with).

I wasn't bothered with noise during my stay and slept well. I was on a higher floor and from my room I got a view along the road towards the Christchurch White Chair Earthquake Memorial.

The wi-fi was fast, but I was given codes throughout my stay so I think that for non-Accor members there is an additional charge.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Christchurch, a city obviously still rebuilding following the devastating earthquakes. Breakfree on Cashel was located centrally and was a good base during my time here. If I returned to Christchurch I would stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to those visiting the city.

The hotel is centrally located with parking across the road for a small charge. The room was perfect for a short city stay with all the facilities you would need. Not much clothes hanging space so probably not great for a long stay but great to two nights. All of the staff were extremely friendly and the cafe downstairs has a good selection of snacks and main meals, the breakfast is served here and there is a good selection of cooked and other items. I was not sure what to expect as the price was good but was pleasantly surprised, the room and bathroom were clean, bed comfortable and room had everything we needed with tea and coffee making facilities, a small fridge, hairdryer plus iron and ironing board. Sadly the views from the hotel were not great due to the city still suffering from the 2011 earthquake with damaged buildings, vacant lots and construction but this did not detract from our visit. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice cozy, comfortable room. Very comfy bed! Lovely clean bathroom and great air conditioning. Staff were perfect to deal with. Location is great if you are wanting something central and $15 parking is good for the location. I was surprised to see negative reviews at all, though thought it was slightly comical to read most of these were down to the size of the beds/rooms; All of this information is displayed for people to read before booking! We took the smallest room which we loved, it was great value for money and full of character. Will definitely be back :)

The room is small but well designed so lots of room for suitcases under the bed so you are not tripping over them. We were able to check in early and as we were traveling by bus, the loaction could not have been better.
The internet allowance was gone in just an hour or so, but we were given a free wifi upgrade when this was queried. To be honest - why limit wifi (especially as it is SO limited) nowadays? It seems mean and petty.

For the price, location, service and convenience of having on site resto and bar, can recommend for the not so fussy traveller(s). Booked one of their family rooms and it suited us well as our teens had their own space in a separate room. Yes the design is unusual such that the bathroom and toilet are in the centre space but didnt bother us much. We were out all day and only used it to sleep or rest break then out again. So very close to shopping area, tram junction and bus interchange I also liked that they are on time when it came to cleaning our room. This will now be our first choice when visiting Christchurch.

Booked a one night stay in a room on the 6th floor with breakfast included.
The room was not very big but very clean and basic (which is all we needed ) A small window gave good views over part of the city.
We were impressed with the bathroom which was well stocked, a good size with great dark coloured tiles which made it look more classy..
The bed was comfortable as well. The only real issue we had was music booming late at night/early morning which woke me and kept my wife awake until it stopped at 2.30am. It was a Friday night/Saturday morning so night clubs in the city were probably the culprit.
The cooked breakfast was very good and plentiful.
Overall the stay was good value and we have found most hotels in a city centre have similar noise problems

Please note that while I can't comment on a shuttle service, the train station is not walking distance (about a 25 min walk) nor is it on an easy bus route. Your best bet is a taxi or Uber.
