Myself and my partner went away to Christchurch, beautiful little city. He booked a room at the muse hotel great little hotel. Strange thing for me was there were no lights on in the lobby area so there was like this light with alot of lights on it that were not going i thought maybe it was just that one that was out but no it wasn't they were all out for some odd reason. Got into our room aircon was so cold. Room was beautifully done and cleaned can tell whom ever cleans it does a great job. We stayed for 3 nights with breakfast which was nice but kept giving us 2 milks each bag we got i think we ended up with like 9 or so milks.Thought there would have been boxed milk in the fridges and topped up each day the little milks were topped up each day. Go down stairs to go reception girls were laughing so loudly I could hear them on level 2 there were 3 of them on at the front desk odd to have 3 receptionon at night. Checked out not as friendly as checking in. Overall great rooms good sizes 👌 great cleaning.

Dear Jboyd3 Thanks for choosing to stay with us and for taking time to post a review. Lobby lights were being switched off after hours to conserve power, though the area near the lifts were illuminated at all times, we have taken your suggestion and we may decide to leave it on. We apologies for the room temperature, probably we may have missed to switch it on and are also apologetic for the reception staff for not being disciplined, we have since then spoken to staff on this issue. We will take your suggestion on boxed milk and do necessary changes to our breakfast pack. We are happy to know you liked our rooms. We look forward to see you again. Regards Manager

The hotel has all aspects to the city life, the style is very Lux and it location is perfect for a quick walk around the city. However we booked a standard king room and we where situated under the pink lady, constant noises from that level - till 11am of knocking assuming someone was cleaning. The room was freezing along with the water but that warmed up, the cleaning was 4/10 very dusty, bathroom was not clean with previous guest leaving marks on shower doors and tv was damaged.

I would recommend staying here that if the cleaning and making the space feel warmer was provided.

We stayed here for 1 night in January. Before I begin, this hotel has the potential to be so much better with just a few changes. The room was comfortable and spacious enough, however as stated by other reviewers the cleaning standards are not as good as other hotels, our bathroom had marks all over the mirror. Additionally when we checked in there were a bag of dirty towels outside our room, they weren't moved until the following day, not a nice thing to come out and see every time we left our room. The carpets in the halls also need replacing as they are very worn and dirty. The reception staff were also not very friendly or welcoming, however the team up at the pink lady rooftop in the hotel were very friendly and personable when we visited for drinks. We would probably look to stay elsewhere when we visit Christchurch again.

Hotel has been very tastefully put together. It feels like a walking through an art gallery – specially if you decide to take the stairs. The staff were very courteous and professional.
We stayed for 2 nights in Room 604. Staff were very helpful and check in was smooth.
Nice sized rooms and the theme of the hotel was very slightly present in the room too making our stay very special. My girlfriend loved the bath robes and the rainfall shower head.

Bed was very comfortable, nice views of the park across the street. Room was warm in the Christchurch winter nights.

Breakfast was amazing at the café next door which the hotel has tied up with – girlfriend was impressed with their Café latte and something like a BLT sandwich.
Easy walking distance to restaurants by the river. We walked down at 3:00am after a few drinks and the streets felt safe and were all lite up.
The Muse hotel was great. We loved Christchurch, and this has a wonderful location, very central, comfortable, and well equipped with expresso machines, ironing board etc. Will definitely stay here again.

We stayed three nights at The Muse. Sanjay booked us in and made us feel very welcome, advising places to visit, and dining options nearby. The Muse has been open six months and is in a refurbished office building that survived the earthquakes. Our room on the sixth floor was a little smaller than I expected, with a large desk and chair, plus another large easy chair beside the bed. It was a bit awkward squeezing between the chair and bed when my husband was sitting at the desk. The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom well designed with a large overhead shower rose. Each floor has artwork by a different local artist and the painting in our room was a woman in a gold leaf bathing suit which glowed in the light and looked kind of weird at night. We had to use the stairs one day, due to the elderly lift throwing a hissy fit, and had the opportunity of seeing all the other artists’ work.

Breakfast was served in the independently run cafe downstairs, a choice of granola with fruit, or two eggs on toast, with tea or coffee. The hotel has obviously read and acted upon previous reviews. Other options are also available, at extra cost of course.
The bar/restaurant on the roof is owned by the same people as the cafe and the cafe acts as an overflow bar at night.

All the staff were warm and welcoming, both hotel and cafe staff. We found Riverside Market a short walk away, as suggested by the personable Sanjay, and made several trips there.

I was meant to be on a trip to Germany, but the current situation kept me in New Zealand for the foreseeable future, so my partner and I decided to have a staycation. Having driven past this site many times post-earthquake and wondering when something was going to be done with it, I was very excited to see a tasteful, modern hotel open. The rooftop bar (Christchurch's first I think?) is set to open in September.

The interior is beautifully renovated. Everything corresponds and is perfectly clean. The colour scheme and artworks throughout are chic and the location cannot be beaten. You will be close to buses, restaurants (we went to Earl across the road, also fantastic), bars and shopping. The staff were pleasant and the free in-room continental breakfast is a nice touch. My favourite parts were the rain shower and the fresh croissants. The view of the classic Christchurch trams going past was very nice too.

The only negatives (not even negatives, just things maybe things not thought of yet as this is a very new hotel) was no earplugs or facial tissues provided. We stayed on a Saturday night and the club opposite the hotels used a lot of bass which ripped through the otherwise perfect soundproofing.

Thank you Muse for our little weekend escape, we will be back!

A very average new hotel in central city. Renovated rooms in an old building. A bit rough around the edges. The Asian lady who checked us in seems remotely interested and she appeared we are more of an inconvenience to us being served by her rather than being welcoming and friendly. Room was not overly clean with fingerprints on the glasses and toiletries. Breakfast was a couple of croissants with 2 packets of butter and spread in a brown paper bag. Location is great but other than this there’s nothing extraordinary with this newest hotel in town. Why advertise the inclusion of breakfast if you struggle to deliver?? Also, a clean room in the age of Covid-19 pandemic is a minimum standard.

I had purchased a 2 night stay voucher via grabone, I thought as I wasn’t going to use the voucher I would Surprise my sister, her husband and the child a night away. Before I booked anything contacted the hotel with a copy of my voucher and asked if it was ok if a child stayed as well and to only use it for one night not the two. This was all ok so booked it. They booked it in for 2 nights so rang a couple of days before to change to just the one night and then to check about car parking, was allocated a park at no cost due to only staying 1 night. All fine until they got back at midnight after the event they went to and there was no carparks available, decided it was easier to grab things from the room clock out and drive home that night than try find a carpark somewhere else and carry a sleeping child how ever far they found a carpark away. The hotel has since tried to charge them for breakfast, something that was included in the voucher but something that also wasn’t had as didn’t stay, would definitely not recommend to stay here again

Hotel is more like managed apartments. Building is open to the public with a public bar on the roof, run by another organisation (not the hotel). Cafeteria on the ground floor with basic offering.

Lifts shared with drunken bar patrons.

No lock on bathroom door. Room door had the privacy / security bolt broken off.

I had requested two single beds. Room was configured with a double. Asked for this to be changed and was told "housekeeping has gone home so they will do it tomorrow."

Windows do not open and airconditioner / ventilation has limited controls (up 1 degree or down 1 degree). Could not turn it off or lower fan speed. Daughter reacted badly to the dry air and could not stop coughing. I requested via telephone 3 times that this be adjusted, and was told that it would be done "centrally". It never was. By 9pm it was clear we could not stay here.

We checked out the same evening, by telephoning reception (unmanned desk), where they advised us to leave our keys in the room.

We went and stayed at a proper hotel.

I would like to have offered constructive advice to the hotel staff / management however starting from such a low baseline, and noting how poor their service & communication was I don't think it would make any difference.

Still waiting on the promised refund.

The Muse is a lovely place: centrally located, parking available, beautiful beds to sleep in and very fab bathroom/shower. Touches of luxury like the velvet headboard, nescafe-like coffee machines/supplies and luxury linens really made it a nice retreat. We were given a quiet room overlooking park area & away from late night music scene, and the lovely, welcoming staff also followed up with me after I accidentally left my phone/computer chargers after check-out.
Check it out for a lovely weekend - can’t wait for the rooftop bar to open later this summer!
