Detailed Reviews
A very nice hostel with well equipped and comfortable dorms. Each bed had it's own curtain, light and electric outlet, thanks to that you can have some privacy while still being able to read/charge your devices. The location is very good, close to the beach and harbour, with a beautiful view onto the bay.

Hake Lodge Paihia was the best backpacker I stayed in New Zealand. Not only the excellent location, that you can overlook the evening sunset of the beach in the kitchen and lounge. The kitchen facility was great, knife is sharp, stove and plate in good condition it make cooking in the kitchen enjoyable.
Room as clean with nice bed, compare to other backpacker I stayed and experience, this was the best. Staff make nice recommendation of what to go in the local area too. Definitely go back for next trip.

We were limited in where to book in Paihia as we booked quite late, but were pleasantly surprised by this accommodation.
Back packers hostels have changed a lot since we last used them.
Security was still a concern with poor door locks and window locks, but nothing happened.
Our room was extremely hot with the good weather and large window facing the sun, but cooled down overnight and with a floor fan going.
The reception staff were fine. There was plenty of information around the desk to work out what to do activity wise in the area. We didn’t use their services to book anything.
Really good location in the centre of town. No private parking unfortunately, but they have use of a few spaces in the nearby public car park for a small fee (5 NZD per night).
The room was nothing to write home about (we had a private double with private bathroom), though it was clean. But there is a communal lounge to use and socialise if you wish. And a great kitchen and good facilities and wonderful view.
Plenty of local supermarkets to buy something to cook and loads of restaurants to go to if you don’t want to cook.
WiFi was fairly good, just a bit annoying to keep having to log in each time you left the building.
All in all we probably would stay there again for the location.

Booked out entire lodge for the weekend to accommodate a large group. We have stayed here for two years running. Extremely happy with the staff, facilities and accomodation.
The lodge is clean, comfortable and managed well. Our manager went out of her way to facilitate our group and address any issues that may have arose.
This lodge is perfectly located in the heart of Paihia and next to the ferry terminal. The views from the common room are stunning, probably the best views you can have in Paihia. The facilities are well laid out and very functional.
I highly recommend this lodge.

I stayed here in a double room for 2 nights. The location is amazing, right over the road from the beach and the wharf where all the ferries, boats trips and day trips pick up. The lounge and kitchen area even has a sea view, which was unexpected. It is a lovely place to relax. The room was a good size, however it was extremely hot in there when I stayed and the fan didn’t really help. The staff were all super friendly, especially Charlotte, Katie, Els and Steve. Thanks guys!

This is a hostel with a view and really friendly staff . Really enjoyed my 2 night stay in this lovely town . The dorms are a bit cramped but we're clean might need air con in summer. Bathrooms were OK did the job and that's what you need . I had an amazing stay just taking a star off for rooms being a bit cramped and my duvet was not too nice when you took the cover off . Haka in auckland need to look at the main lady for a lesson in welcoming . I can't remember her name sorry but she was a Ray of sunshine .

Our large band booked the entire venue for the Jazz Festival. I can't fault the place. Niels was an amazing host who kept us informed and tended to any need. He even socialised with us on our last night. The rooms were ideal. Bunk rooms for families and singles, double rooms for partners. The location is perfect - over the road from the Ferry Terminal and upstairs from a number of restaurants and shops. The common room is very special - unhindered views of the water and Russell, loads of cooking facilities and comfortable seating. The whole facility is clean and secure. Can't wait to stay there again next year. Thanks!

Hi Diana, we can definitely book tours for you in and around the Bay - and up to Cape Reinga. There is a twin tour offer, which includes a discount on both the full day Cape Reinga trip and a half day trip out into the Bay of Islands. You can book this with our reception desk when you arrive at Haka Lodge.
Thanks!
