Very warm welcome, we took a suite facing the sea. The room is very clean, spacious and with all the comfort worthy of a hotel (comfortable bedding, well-equipped kitchen, coffee/chocolate, tea available, a large room bathroom with bathtub (ideal for children) and a shower tray. The living room overlooks the sea which is breathtaking! We sipped a good hot chocolate while admiring this beautiful view! The bedroom is at the entrance to the suite which means that we don't have a view of the sea but nothing too serious there are also sofa beds in the living room. Concerning the location, the hotel is well located. You can leave your car safely at the hotel and walk to one of the restaurants in town which is a 2 minute walk away!! The quay is just 2 minutes away so if you plan to take an excursion to bay of islands it's is right next door! You can walk around the city on foot, there is a countdown (supermarket) 2 minutes by car from the hospital. I highly recommend !!

We stayed here on a road trip. The location is good but we didn't have a seafront view although the view from the restaurant in the mornings was to die for. Very central for boat trips, etc. The breakfasts were really good but extra - however the layout of the tables was not to our liking, being mostly long tables sharing with others. There were a few tables for two which we managed to get, but there was a hostel feel due to the long tables. The room was dated with a fixed shower head (pet hate) and nowhere to hang washing. No privacy due to the French windows out to the car park - no one uses these. The corridors were dark and dated. There was a problem with our magnetic key when we arrived after a long drive. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet. The photo with the swimming pool is misleading as there is a main road running adjacent to the pool.

The location of the hotel is perfect for the town and views over the sea, the staff including Tom and Janine were the most helpful, kind and friendly people I’ve come across in my 35 years of travelling overseas. The beds were very comfortable, the shower was excellent and the layout of the suite suited our family very well. The breakfast had plenty of options all with a table looking over the sea.
The hotel is good value for money and we would go back again.

It was a very special occasion so decided to go for the balcony room, which was ($345) per night. The room did have a nice view. However, the bed linen looked like it had not been changed from the previous occupants. The pillow cases and sheets were un-ironed, which was something we have never come across before. The pillows were dreadful. We tried to phone housekeeping but there was no response. We then phoned reception and asked for some 'real' milk as I have an intolerance to the long life pots which were provided. I was told they didn't have any milk. We tried to use the air conditioning as it was really cold but the remote control for the bedroom was missing.

This place has sadly seen much better days. Stayed here recently thinking it was still the place to stay in Paihia. No. The room was below the standard of what you’d expect in a hotel. Stains on the carpet, the tv didn’t work properly and only a few channels working, the towel rack in the bathroom fell off the wall when I grabbed a towel and no soundproofing from the hallway and between the rooms. The restaurant was akin to a 1980’s coffee shop. The guy working in the restaurant didn’t know how to take an order and the breakfast buffet was embarrassing. Unfortunately there aren’t many good accommodation options in Paihia but I’d certainly recommend that people avoid this place until the owners invest some serious money on a revamp.

Leanne, Front Office Receptionist, is a rude arragont person with a power-trip! After breakfast on Sunday at 9:30am, i went up to the front desk to find out the check out time and realized it was 10am. Being with 4 kids, 2 teenagers and 2 toddlers in 3 rooms, i realized itbwould be a rush, requested that 1 of the 3 rooms, if we could check out an hour late. Was told she would charge me, could see her face light up as she was have a surge in "Power". I reminded her we have 3 rooms and i just need an extra hour for 1 of the 3 rooms. She refused, saying that is our policy. Having been a guest at Kingsgate several times had never even asked before just dropped of the key and left at 11 or even slightly later. Never an issue. Here i was being poliet and she was having a power-trip. Told Leanne, its okay we will be out at 10am and will never return to the hotel and will be letting everyone know.

We were warmly welcomed by Tom, The Manager. Nothing was too much trouble for him and everything we asked for, he managed to get for us.
It wasn't a typical visit, as all the facilities, bar, restaurant, gym etc., apart from a very cold swimming pool were closed, due to Covid. Our Apartment couldn't be serviced either, so unusually, we were having to make our own beds up etc. We didn't realise this when it was booked by a Family Member for us, as we planned to eat in the restaurant. Luckily, there were plenty of eateries a short walk from the hotel.
We did however, have breakfast. There were seven of us. The Waitress was First Class and got our orders spot on, was very efficient, polite and friendly and again, nothing was too much trouble for her, which is always refreshing.
There was plenty of parking available. There was also a lift to upper floors. We were on the lowest floor, so we didn't need to use it.
The Apartment was spotlessly clean and was very well equipped. We overlooked the Bay, with stunning views. The balcony had a table and chairs, so it was a lovely spot to relax and relax we did.
We had a couple of simple negatives. It would be beneficial if a couple of hooks behind the bathroom door were provided. It would make bathing easier, as there wasn't anywhere to hang our clean clothes or bath towels.
We weren't too happy that the bathroom/toilet came right off the kitchen, with no dividing door, so if you were having a wash, or cleaning your teeth, you were in full view of the person in the kitchen, not ideal. If you were taking a bath/shower, then no problem, as there was a door.
Other than that, our Apartment Room 401, on the corner, was bright and airy and comfortable. Our Daughter was next door, so she didn't have a window in her bedroom, making it very dark.
When the Kingsgate have special offers, we will visit again. We did find $185 per night to be expensive, especially as we couldn't be afforded any facilities, which would have enhanced our stay, but this obviously wasn't the Hotel's fault.
We would recommend this Hotel.

More than decent hotel providing good VFM in ideal location. Nothing fancy but a good, adequately sized room with a comfy bed. Food in the evening and at breakfast was tasty and plentul, only quibble being they ran out of orange juice midway through the breakfast setting. Staff were friendly and efficient, especially the ever excellent Trina who was key to what went on in both the bar and restaurant (she wasn't on duty when the OJ ran out!). Most rooms have a parking bay outside - useful if arriving by car but not, if like us on a coach tour and some inconsiderate oaf leaves a boat and trailer outside your room and then leaves with it early morning! Super outdoor simming pool although inclement weather prevented a dip. Perfectly positioned for shops, bars, beach, harbour, golf, Waitangi Memorial Site and Bay of Islands.

Views for days of the Bay of Islands, and across to Russell. Rooms (Junior Suites) were spacious and comfortable, with a balcony overlooking the Bay and the pool complex in the hotel. The hotel is a short walk to the wharf and ferry (handy for day trips), and to shops, the supermarket, cafes and restaurants. Staff were very helpful, and we enjoyed breakfast at the hotel restaurant (although fresh fruit and better coffee would have made it just that much better). We would definitely stay again.
