Detailed Reviews
Rooms are worn down and need immediately renovate, carpet dirty, shower and kitchen are pretty old and dirty. Tea bags & instance coffee provided but kitchen ware are poor/old/worn. Got free WiFi but connection was very weak. However it is located very close to City Centre. Only 1 small lift for the whole building and the lift is pretty old and worn out with lots of noise when moving, not feeling safe to use the lift but have to use it to move luggages to the rooms.

Central , in a nice area and cheap. BUT.......grubby,dirty floor, kitchen, bathroom, walls windows, ....everything. If you can cope with grubby it's acceptable. It just depends where your grot threshold lies! The whole place is in desperate need of a refurb, cleaning, renovation, maintenance.....but if you do all that it is going to be way more expensive.

Mountway Holiday Apartments are situated in an old and not isolated building near very noisy highway. We stayed there 3 nights and we couldn’t sleep few hours.
Main entrance to backyard, elevator and stairs which leads to apartments is without any fence and during the night access to apartments is available to anyone from the street.
I felt very uncomfortable when 2 drunken guys knocked at my door at 2 am... Loud speaking and quarrelling was also in apartment above ours.
I don’t understand that owners can not assure any housekeeper or security during the night to protect their guests.
On the other hand, internet is extremely expensive: 20 AUD/day and very slow. A small shop in reception (which operates from 8 am to 5pm) sells articles without prices. Management of MHA should definitely do something about very low standard of their apartments.

Response from John B, General Manager at Mountway Holiday Apartments
Responded Jan 7, 2012
Thank you for bringing to our attention your 3 night experience at Mountway. Yes it’s an old building and the walls are 8 inches thick concrete which keeps out noise and unwanted visitors if you keep your doors and windows closed. All areas are accessible 24 hours a day which guests generally find convenient. I have to say your comment “I don’t understand why owners don’t employ security to protect there guests” is misplaced. I understand that in some countries some residences are behind “fences” with barbed wire and security guards patrolling.. Some million dollar properties in Mount Street and other areas of Perth and Australia have very sophisticated security set ups. The occupants pay for that. We will not employ a security guard to stand-by as it would create a false impression. We do not have plans to employ law enforcement personnel to “protect guests” as you put it as this would also create a false impression. I understand you felt very uncomfortable when someone from and upper level was knocking on your door on New Years morning. Is there a way to stop people drinking or knocking on the wrong door on New Years morning? Everyone knows as far as I know that if you want ‘security’ you need a 4-5 star Hotel. Security personnel in any property are there to protect property and call the police if there is a need to protect guests from some unpredictable situation. Any offended person anywhere anytime can call police if they really think it necessary. We have 2 caretakers on site. Mountway is heavily booked most of the time due to the very competitive rates and convenient location. You can get a good deal from 5 star hotels at the moment. In October they were asking $500 - $1000 per night. Five Star properties don’t provide the kitchen or shop at reception as we do. Those 5 star hotels don’t want you to buy anything from a shop. Just use the mini bar, room service, and restaurants. On the other hand you get 24 hour security. The internet is only $20 a day if you stay connected for 24 hours. That’s 83 cents an hour. Why not take shorter sessions over a number of days by way of log-in log-out. It’s slow when downloading movies because that’s not what it’s there for. Regarding your statement “MHA should definitely do something about very low standards”, I say this. Everyone’s ability to purchase accommodation is governed by their ability to pay. That’s why you have backpackers where you can share a kitchen, dorm and shower with no security for $30.00 a night. On the other hand you might meet someone nice. Then you have the 5 stars mentioned earlier. But for $200 per night you can take the middle of the road like we do when travelling. Interested persons can look at our latest addition to standards of service, the Perth Mountway Map. Mountway is the only property known to give a localised map to guests. Also check out the video on Mountway. It’s a great way to find out before you book it. Kind regards J & S.

‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’
I booked my disabled client and myself into this hotel because it was local to the hospital. After a long day of driving from the country, attending appointments we arrived just after the office was closed for the day. Easy check in by ringing after hours number.
We had room 207 and what a delight for the price. All freshly painted, furniture was new and well thought out. Kitchen fully equipped and spotless. Bathroom the same. Linen was clean and crisp and beds were comfortable. The only criticism I have that bed pillows were very flat and not enough of. Over all we had a very comfortable stay and wished we hadn’t been there on business because so much to explore around us.

Ive stayed here many times and never had any problems .
Its only now during this stay in isolation that ive reslly appreciated the open and airy design.
My front door opens out onto balcony walkway with cityscape and my room has wall to wall windows which face morning sun and look out onto the cbd and i also get a bit fresh air thru the place.
Front office always prompt and responsive to any needs or questions i have making this isolation bearable.
Thanks to mangement and staff

Required a 14 days 'iso' booking, and was promised Mountway could provide this. On arrival, the room provided had not been cleaned, was badly maintained with no power to electrical outlets. Had to wait until the next day for a new room- which was a little cleaner and in better condition. The internet was not suitable for work purposes.
Would have moved to new accommodation, if possible.
Very disappointing. The only positive is your door opens to an open walkway.

I booked one apartment for 5 days in June 2015. The elevator was old and shaky. Need to wait more than 5 minutes at certain time to be able to use it. Better just to climb up the stairs. Trust me it's faster as long as you don’t have to carry along any heavy items or luggage.
First impression when opening the door of our room on level 2, I was quite shock. The actual apartment is very different from the advertised picture given in the website. The carpet is dirty and also the blinds at the windows are displaced and cannot be adjusted. Need to pull the blinds separately one by one sheet manually to cover the window. The double decked bed is rusted on certain surface.
Went into the toilet, switch on the light and ventilation fan. Another shocker! The fan gave up a loud noise like a broken blender. Need to close the toilet all the time. Another problem is that the light and ventilation fan share a common switch. So, nothing can be done to stop the irritating sound if light is needed. Not to mention about the clogged drain that need about half an hour for the water to completely flow away. But we did not make a big fuss about it and try to focus and enjoy our 5 days vacation in Perth.
The next morning on cold Monday, my four months old baby girl had accidently soiled the bed sheet (Just a small patch because we have taken precaution by changing her diapers before going to bed and also at midnight). I when to the reception, there are two persons there. The older receptionist named Polly.
After greeting her good morning, I ask her politely if they provide a service to change the bed sheet. Her face quickly turns sour and starts looking at the customer record. She told me that I only booked for 5 days. If I stay more than 7 days, only then they will change the bed sheet. I was speechless. I told her about the incident that my baby had soiled the bed sheet. She rose up her voice and start giving me lecture about climate change and babble. I should be blamed for not putting plastic sheet under my baby when she sleeps. She told me if she changes the bed sheet, the next day my baby will soiled up the bed sheet again. It’s not a win-win situation.
I told her that it was an accident and will take extra precaution. Then, by not looking at me, she said the house keeping person will take a look at the single bed, bed sheet if anything can be done. I told her, not the single bed but the double bed because my baby sleeps with me and my wife. She gets agitated again, and accused me that before this I told her that the single bed, bed sheet that was soiled, not the double bed. I never said anything about single bed. Then, again she started to babble again that I should take extra bed for my baby and so on.
I was very sad about how she treated me; the other receptionist did not say anything and just stared at me. This is the first time I travel to Perth. All the way to Caversham Wildlife Park, my mind just can’t stop thinking about how she treated me. I just ask her about the possibility to change the bed sheet and the respond I get was very bad like I have done a heavy crime. Polly is surely not polite.
Although when we come back from Swan Valley that evening the house keeping person had change the bed sheet. The way she treated me, I definitely will not encourage any travelers with family to stay here. Maybe it is more suitable for people travelling alone or with friends. I told our tourist guide about the incident, he was also quite shocked about how Polly the receptionist treated me and the duration of 7 days before the bed sheet is change. He also told me that he know about the workers there tend to be very unfriendly but nothing can be done because I personally booked this apartment and not using travel agent company.
All in all, my family cherished the moment we had in Perth, Fremantle and Mandurah because we are not frequent traveler to foreign county. Hope one day, when my baby girl is grown up, we can visit Perth again but surely not be staying at Mountway Holiday Apartments and will definitely told her of what happen on that cold Monday morning and how much I love her.

Response from John B, General Manager at Mountway Holiday Apartments
Responded Jun 26, 2015
Thank you for your very detailed report on the unpleasant experience you had here following your child wetting the bed. I have followed up on your posting and our employee offered me the following explanation. 1. The guest came down to ask about a service but when I checked he wasn't due a service so I explained to him the Mountway service policy. 2. Then he told me his baby wet the bed and he wants the mattress changed. 3. I was discussing with him the changing of the single bed mattress when he said no it's the double bed mattress, the baby sleeps with us. I might have looked crestfallen as I knew we were waiting on double mattress spares. I also said to him that if we did change of mattress could it happen again and did the baby have a nappy. No the baby doesn't have a nappy on in bed. 4. He offered to take a sheet and do a change but I wanted the staff to do it to check how it was. 5. Peter went up while the guests were on their excursion, to see what could be done and found that the mattress wasn't wet or soiled and didn't need replacing because it had a Mountway protection covering. Peter changed the protection covering and sheets and had it all sorted, but they wouldn’t have known until they returned. 6. I mention to him that some people traveling with babies that might wet the bed, have a rubber or plastic sheet to put on any beds that might not have one. He just said his baby always sleeps with him at home and this was just an accident. I tried to be helpful telling him that sometimes when babies or children are in a different place or bed this can happen. 7. The guest became agitated, when I was just trying to be helpful. I think he was annoyed the baby wet his bed and he didn't even look to see if the mattress was wet or not and just came down and said he wants the double mattress replaced. 8. A delicate matter and I apologise for the unintentional hurt.

We booked for a three night stay, however on booking in and seeing the room we did not stay even one night.
The rooms certainly do not look anything like the pictures above. The carpet was filthy and the windows dirty. The bathroom and kitchen were very dated. This property is not one I would recommend to anyone, especially if you have children.

I booked on line from an internet site but on arrival.......!! This would be the worst place I have seen that is on the market for the traveller. On entering the room, the smell was disgusting - it stunk. Furniture old and disgusting- bath room dirty-bedding yuk!! We were given a 100% refund as I refused to stay there.

Responded Aug 18, 2013
Telling the truth is always a good idea. The truth is Mountway is not everyone's cup of tea but we are often filled to capacity with happy budget travellers. To tell some more truths we refunded this person for two reasons. First reason was he was obnoxious and a bully and we didn't want him around for a second longer. Second reason is by refunding him on the spot, we were hoping he would not deliberately and maliciously go out of his way to damage our business. Most discerning travellers will look into other reviews more than just this one and make a balanced decision about where to stay, not taking too seriously these unbalanced and outrageous comments.

I stayed here with two colleagues for a work trip. This accommodation was booked for us and we were hesitant after reading reviews before we even made it to Perth, though we chose to give it the benefit of the doubt. The majority of the bulbs intended to light the walkway to our room were burnt out. As we went to open our door, the handle broke off. Upon entering the space, we noticed the dingy walls complete with splotches of what appeared to be blood or dirt. The paint was chipping, there were stains all over our blankets. Though there were three of us, two white towels were left in our room, one of which had a large brown stain. The toilet flushed occasionally and other times would not. We, unfortunately, were booked here for two nights. Though we could have switched to a new hotel after the first night, we decided to tough it out since our flight left Perth early the following morning (we had to leave our accommodation at 5:45am). After leaving early the next morning and working all day, we returned to Mountway that evening at 8pm. Reception closed at 7:30pm and the note on the door stated to visit the night caretaker in Unit 4 if we needed anything. As we only had one acceptable towel, we visited the unit to request two more towels. When the caretaker answered the door, he immediately expressed frustration at our presence. He was extremely rude, stating that we needed additional towels so we could have one for our hair and one for our body. He insinuated that we were demanding and entitled. We had to follow him to the linen room where he continued to harass us. After receiving the two towels we needed, we went to our room. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone and am honestly surprised that it is still in business.
