Detailed Reviews
The hotel itself is located towards the end of the main strip of restaurants and shops in Perth, allowing you to get a good night's sleep. This also means it is nearer the quay and meeting points for many trips, which is handy.
I booked a budget single room, so was delighted to receive a double bed in my room. The room was basic but clean and had a wide range of teas and coffee that were filled up daily. The room also had a fridge, which was handy for storing water and snacks. Free toiletries were also replaced daily, which as a traveller was very handy.
The staff were all friendly and polite. As I had given a late arrival time (10pm, I think) they made sure someone was on reception to greet me and check me in. This was great as I didn't want to be struggling as a woman travelling alone in a city at night. The staffed hours of the reception were meant to be 7pm -7pm, but these were often extended which came in handy. This was particularly so on my last day when I booked a trip and needed luggage storage.
They do take a $200 security deposit when you stay, so make sure you have that. Mine was not returned like it was meant to be, so I simply emailed them a screenshot from my bank and some additional details and they made sure it was returned as promptly as possible after my stay.
I personally can not recommend and sing positive praises enough.

This hotel was wonderful and in an excellent location. Right in the heart of the CBD, there is a Woolworths, McDonalds and various service stores within a 5 minute walking radius. The nearest train station is McIver, though Perth Underground is less than 10 minutes away. I was grateful to find that this hotel has a lift, especially after lugging my 11kg bag up the hill from the station. My room was on the first floor and came with a wonderful air conditioner, which was much appreciated given that I struggle with the heat. The room wasn't as soundproof as I'd hoped, but the only time I noticed any noise from my neighbours was first thing in the morning when I was awake anyway, so this wasn't a big problem. The bathroom was a good size for one person; the only possible problem I could mention is that the water temperature sometimes fluctuated from hot to cold and back again while showering, but this only happened a couple of times. Housekeeping visited daily and tidied the room while providing new towels. The reception staff were polite and helpful - I have to give a shout-out to the manager who excellently handled an evacuation one evening due to the accidental activation of the fire alarm. He stayed calm and sorted the situation relatively quickly. This place will be top off my list of hotels to stay in next time I return to Perth.

I wasn't blown away nor appalled by this hotel. It's fine in many ways, but there were a few things that took away from it.
The staff were friendly, the setting nice enough, the location is very close to the city, tv worked fine, air con worked very well, there's a cafe downstairs and the hotel is only about 7-8 minutes walk from McIver station on the Airport train line.
The downsides include the shower with poor pressure, bathroom basin taps that need to be turned off very tight to prevent dripping water, can't get change for the washing machine, the mattress was very firm which effected my sleep (however that's more a personal thing) and no parking. There are two car parks very nearby, one on Hay St is 24hrs, but can be expensive.
Overall i'd say it's worth considering, but don't expect a modern hotel.

I would love to give a review, but as the hotel has cancelled my booking in Nov/Dec 2025, along with another friend's booking I cannot. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL - they are liable to cancel your booking with no explanation and suggest a local backbacker hostel as an alternative. Suspect it is so they can let the rooms out at a higher rate as there is a major sporting event in Perth at this time.

Rooms were dinghy and old. Decor from retro era. No hair dryers in standard or single rooms. Not the cleanest rooms either. Reception was not supervised for periods of time and we had to wait for assistance. No change available for the laundry available but they did provide washing powder that was a bonus.

The European Hotel retains much of its distinctive style but it IS different under the new management. Miss Maud is on an extended break but it looks like the wonderful buffet cafe/restaurant on the corner has gone forever. There is a small coffee shop as part of the complex. We were disappointed with the service. Offerings were fairly limited and not cheap. But there are other options nearby.
The hotel is now more Eurasian. There is nothing wrong with that of course. Staff at reception are professional but can be curt at times. I endorse the comment of the reviewer who mentioned information about wifi and password was not freely given at check-in. Having said that, the free wifi was very good.
Room was as we expected. Comfortable but the airconditioning took a little while to get used to.
The hotel is an easy walk from Perth railway station so it is convenient for people using the new (October 2022) airport line. Public bus services pass close by.
Many businesses in the area have closed down but the hotel surroundings are generally safe. However, some patrons may feel a little uneasy about some of the local street and homeless people.

Perth people will know this hotel as Miss Maud's Swedish Hotel and it retains the charming old-fashioned wallpaper, Swedish pictures on the walls and plenty of wood. It's very well located for the Perth Concert Hall, Royal Perth Hospital and the shopping centre of Perth. The bed was comfortable and my room was very quiet. Information was lacking at check-in, for example, the WiFi password and at the moment the restaurant and cafe are closed. You are paying purely for the room. The average rating is given because of this.

We recently enjoyed a Girl's Weekend Getaway as part of the July Winter Dinner, Bed and Breakfast Promotion. The twin room was absolutely lovely and the buffet dinner and breakfast was definitely a highlight. All staff were amazing. The location is perfect in the city with easy access around using the free city "CAT" transport system. Can't wait to come back.

Made reservation through my international airline as part of a package. The room rate was reasonable while offering good location, legendary breakfast as well as friendly and competent staff. The building was constructed in 1911 and has been updated with WiFi, AC, mini fridges etc. The onsite restaurant offers smorgasbord style, breakfast, lunch and dinners as well as individual entrees. Onsite prepared pastries for this restaurant and other Ms Maud shop locations in Perth are great.
The big reason I would return is that the staff truly seem to value you as a guest and make you feel welcome

The European Hotel is ideally located within CBD. Walking distance to River, restaurants. Whilst our room did not have a view it was spacious. It does not offer breakfast, however this is little cafe near reception where you can get cooked breakfast.

I think it’s the same with all hotels, they take your credit card details at check in. I paid for the room when I pre booked but you still give credit card in case of damages.
Couldn't agree more. Great place.
