Detailed Reviews
Friendly, helpful staff who seem to care about their roles in making our stay enjoyable. Rooms are a little tight for space but completely adequate, and nice and clean. Tiled floors in the bedrooms add to the 'clean' feeling and are a great response to Darwin's heat and humidity. Original artworks in the rooms also add to the ambience. The location is not too far from town by Uber (approx $9) or it's a manageable stroll (about 15 mins). The Guest Laundry was a welcome bonus. Breakfast offered basic options that were fresh and covered most tastes. Overall, I'd recommend the Argus for clean, simple accommodation.

Recently enjoyed a seven night stay at the Argus. Check in was very efficient - all staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room was very well presented and serviced each day (except Sunday- when rooms are not serviced) to a high standard. The tariff included breakfast which was very adequate and very convenient. on site parking is available for a modest daily fee. Location was excellent - very close to the main centre of Darwin but away from the noise of the main streets.

We booked the Argus as part of a package and had a 6 night stay. The room was perfect for us with a nice view. Maybe a little small but it didn't bother us as we were out most of the day. We had a two bedroom room for three adults. Rooms were clean, comfortable with good aircon and two small balcony's. Rooms were tidied each day by the cleaners with beds made and fresh towels.
The complementary breakfast was very handy. Nothing fancy but bread, cereal, juice, fruit, tea and coffee provided with the servery being constantly topped up during breakfast.
$9 per day if you plan to park a car in the hotel carpark. We swam in the pool several times and that was nice with the bubble jets and a shaded area. Pool noodles and towels available also. We didn't use the gym or laundry.
There was no cooking facilities in the room, but there was a fridge and kettle.
Our rooms was close to the lift which you could hear going up and down when it was busy in the mornings.
All staff we came across were very friendly and the 24 hour reception made things very easy checking in and out at 1.30am and 12am respectively. I did email ahead as our flight was due to land late night/ early morning but that's not really necessary thanks to the 24hour reception.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

we stayed at the Argus for a week in December & I must say that with the hotel itself i was more than impressed. Everything from the check in process to the housekeeping, Breakfast,Front desk staff etc were incredible.
Nothing was to much trouble & We were made feel very welcome. Its also handy with woolies just a 5 minute walk away.
The only dissapointing part of my stay was our visit on our last night to the hotels "Green Chillies" Restaurant.
We ordered 3 Entrees which took over 25 minutes to arrive at the table ( During this time waiting there were many take away meals leaving the kitchen, surely take away orders are not taking priority over actual Dine in patrons 🤔 ??) once the Entrees arrived, we received 2 chicken satay sticks with a tiny bowl of satay sauce at the cost of $12- absolute highway robbery( that’s $6 for 1 stick !!)
The service was average to say the least & after this experience I would not go back to this restaurant.
The Argus Hotel however was amazing & I would most definitely stay again !! - A huge thanks to all the staff ❤️

The Argus has lovely staff that greet you at reception and the facilities are small and basic. We had a 2 bedroom room but they were were tiny with no space for amenities in the bathroom. There was a kettle and what used to be a kitchen that would have been fantastic if it had a sink and a microwave. Plenty of room to do so but not there. All night you could hear the lift going up and down. The pool now has a cover and is dark and gloomy situated outside the window of the restaurant… so unless you want to be watched swimming whilst people at eating, not the best place to be. Only a $9 Uber ride to the harbour and there was usually a scooter to hire out the front. Your stay comes with complimentary continental Brekky and which was fresh toast, cereal, yogurt and muesli. Pot coffee was available with no option to upgrade to a proper coffee. Accomodation is suitable if you are after something not too expensive and pretty simple.

We stayed here on 2 occasions recently (a 2 night stay before our National park tours and a 1 night stay after). It seems to make a big difference what room you are in as if I was to rate my experience based on my first room on the 3rd floor, I would rate this 3* but my second experience in a room on the 2nd floor pulled the score up significantly. There was a strange smell in our first room (smelled almost smoky but it does state clearly everywhere that this is a non-smoking hotel). The second room however was much fresher and seemed more modern and bright. Both rooms were large with a small balcony area which was nice in the warm temperatures. The air con was also good quality.
The complimentary breakfast is very basic and would benefit from maybe a wider variety of fresh fruit or some pastries.
Reception were helpful in storing our suitcases before check in and after check out and calling the airport shuttle to book us on.

The hotel was located just outside the busy part of the CBD so reasonably quiet, yet only a 5-10 min walk to the CBD and a supermarket. This was convenient for me.
The room was very spacious which was a luxury after arriving on the Ghan. Adequate cupboard space for myself, Bed and pillows were comfortable and bathroom was clean with a good shower that had a good water pressure.
The corridors felt a little sterile as there was little art on the walls and being tiled on the floor made it quite noisy when people outside were talking, moving around, etc. I had the unpleasant situation of hearing quite a lot of swearing and arguing from the corridor in my room. Unsure if these were guests or hotel staff (cleaners) but i had to report it as it felt unsafe to leave the room.
Staff were friendly and helpful. They were happy to organise a wake up call and taxi to the airport in the very early morning.

Booked for a week but cut it short due to noise from about and in hallways.
Our first room was spacious with a king bed and well equipped, though had a musty, mouldy odour.
Person above on 5th floor started moving furniture at all hours day and night.
Complained to reception, nothing done. Furniture still being moved later that night, went to reception again, this time they moved us to the 8th floor into much smaller room with double bed.
Light comes through gaps around door and the light on the room phone was ridiculous.
So paid for king bed room to having to be moved to double room room, so got gibbed and down sixes due to someone else’s crap.
Also paid extra per day for parking, what a joke.
On the plus though great having the restaurant down stairs and free breakfast every morning.
Laundry down in the car park what a joke.
If you want to use the pool you have to walk through restaurant/ breakfast area.
We will not hurry back and only recommend not staying here.

Very clean hotel with king size beds and quiet air cons. Functionality of room needed much more thought with an office table protruding into a walkway, no sink in the little kitchen area so you needed to wash dishes in a tiny sink and the bath soap dish placed where it is sticking into your ribs when showering. Pool is an above ground very small concrete feature, enough to get wet and jump out. Walls were very thin so expect to hear everything from your neighbours. Where these were annoying features, we would stay again as it was very well priced. Continental breakfast included in price and it was more than adequate but expect percolated coffee. Thai restaurant on site was authentic and good. Finally, situated in quiet street with a 10 min walk to town. Overall, pleasant experience.

Response from Cathy A, Guest Services / Front Office at Argus Hotel Darwin
Responded Sep 19, 2022
Dear marial03909YZ, Thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Unfortunately, as we aren’t a serviced hotel, you will find that not having a sink in the kitchenette area is common. Our Housekeeping team are always more than happy to provide clean cups/mugs as required. We are thrilled that you enjoyed our complimentary breakfast service, as well as the inhouse restaurant run by Green Chillies Darwin. Hoping to see you in Darwin again soon! Warm wishes,

The hotel was very comfortable and in a reasonable location. We were only due to stay one night then be picked up by AAT Kings for a three day tour followed by another night stay but when Kings didn’t pick us up Cathy on the reception tried to help and eventually booked us into a room for the extra two nights. Talk about helpful, Cathy was sympathetic and incredibly helpful, turning a bad experience into and unfortunate episode and without her we would have had a worse time. The breakfast is basic but very good and the lady clearing up and making sure everything is available seems to always have a smile on her face is is very cheerful. I could not fault either the hotel or the staff.

There is plenty of free parking on the streets around the hotel if you don't want to pay for parking. There is time limits on the street, from memory, free between 5pm and 7a.m.
I see your question has been answered! I only saw the question 4 months after you put it! Parking does not seem to be a problem in Darwin - at least not near the hotel, although I used my feet and public transport as I was visiting from overseas. Great city - hope you enjoyed it.
Hi Lorraine,
Yes we do have parking at an additional cost. Please get in touch with our reservations team and they'd love to assist you with further inquiries.
