We are a family run budget motel in a fantastic location surrounded by many local amenities. Opposite the beach and close to the Museum we are also walking distance to all Darwin's most popular seaside clubs, Ski Club, Sailing Club and Trailer Boat Club. We are walking distance to the world famous Minsk Beach Markets held every Thursday during our beautiful dry season and also the local Saturday morning Parap Markets, flowing with fresh Asian food and produce. Our rooms as basic, always affordable, and cleaned daily. We have always had a regular clientele that have become like family over the many years and we always have room for more.

Stayed here for a week after traveling from Sydney to Darwin. It is the 5th motel we had stayed at in Darwin as we were trying to find a nice suburb to move into.
The room was absolutely terrible to say the least, of all the places in Darwin that we stayed at this was honestly the worst. We stayed in cheaper and more expensive places and all 4 of them left this motel for dead.
We are not fussy people but I found this motel to be extremely run down and dirty. The lights didn't work, the fridge wasn't cold, the toilet wouldn't flush properly and the floor and walls were dirty.
The only good thing the Capricornia motel had going for it was the location and the clean linen.

Firstly the positives.
It's pet friendly, allowing pets in the room. It's close to shops and CBD, also close to museum and fannie bay goal.
Drop by the cool spot for a coffee.
Or parap markets on a saturday.
Close to mindil aswell. Location is great.
I stay here because it is pet friendly. I have stayed here a few times with my dogs, the reception staff are very accomodating and friendly. Pool and laundry on site and tea and coffee making facilities in room.
The decor as previously mentioned does look dirty but on closer inspection the tiles are stained. It is a budget motel so I'm sure it would be expensive to renovate to update the entire hotel. If renovated then I'm sure dogs wouldn't be allowed to stay. Tiles in bathroom are a little worn and dated. I like the place for the simple reason it's pet friendly and it's cheap.
Because it's cheap it does sometimes attract various types of guests. I was woken on occasion by some minor outside disturbances but the night manager was right on it every time. Parking can be tricky and it's best in, first served. Also currently limited reception hours as new manager is away overseas. I haven't had any issue extending my stay or with my room key. If you have dogs it's fine to stay here. If you want flash and fancy I'd look somewhere else. Sometimes you can find wotif deals that are similar in price range to this motel. Under the circumstances the motel met all of my needs at the time I stayed. Apparently there is free WiFi but I wasn't given any information regarding it at check in.

Oh boy. I hate being a negative Nancy in my reviews but this place truly takes the cake. I completely understand for $77 you’re not going to get a top floor at the Burj Khalifa but honestly this place is the worst I’ve stayed at in any state, territory, country or universe.

On a positive note, whilst this place is a time capsule, it was clean. At least they made an effort to nicely put the towels on the beds and have a clean bed.

Now for the bad. The bed felt old and cheap and I was honestly too scared to lift up the sheets to see how old the bed was. I was scared I was going to see someone else’s blood or trillions of kids that have made their epic journey there.

The walls in the entire place seems to be constructed of hidaka washi. The thinnest paper in the world at only 0.02mm.

During my stay, I could hear with perfect clarity toilets being flushed, sinks being used, people shifting beds, farting and the list goes on. It really is that bad. At one stage, a group of indigenous were slamming doors and arguing.

If you’re in desperate need of sleep, stay. But if you’re looking to stay over a few days because you’re in the area don’t. Just don’t.

Very dissatisfied, room was not clean enough, pillows were dirty and overall look of the room was terrible, looks like a dump.
Recognising it is a budget hotel, they could have made the room presentable and comfortable.
NOT recommend to any one.

Ghastly place. Looks like a seedy run down joint from the road and it lived up to first impressions. The first thing I noticed when checking in was an A4 sign on the wall advising that refunds will not be available for cancelled accommodation. And I can see why. He must make a living from charging out at price that would indicate that it wasn't zero star motel, but offered reasonable amenities . I was charged A$170 for one nights stay. The room smelt of stale cigarettes, the pillows were so thin as to be useless, the mattress hard and uncomfortable. The room was small with a motley broken down easy chair and a small dilapidated bedside table. The photos used in the marketing of this joint, I would doubt were taken this century. Also there was no milk for tea or coffee or WIFI.

I didn't bother staying and booked else where for $50 more and got a modern room with tea and coffee facilities, restaurant on site and closer to the airport. Tiled bathroom, 4 pillows that were really comfortable, dining table and 3 chairs plus a bench for luggage and or using my laptop and a room that was twice the size.

This is a scary place and how it is allowed to remain advertising itself to the public as a motel is beyond me. At best it would be one step above sleeping on the street if it was pouring down and in the middle of a cyclone.

Absolutely horrendous.

Booked into here, they refused to take the booking.com payment so I had to pay again then contact Booking.com to get my money back!
The room smelt like an adult with a bed wetting problem had lived there for 20 yrs. So much hair and pubic hair on the floor I thought it was carpet! There was an ant nest in the clean towel on the bed. I have stayed in hostels all over the place, but this was like nothing I have ever experienced.
I booked a new room elsewhere and rang a taxi, was there less than 45 min. Never got my money back either.

Don't stay here, despite it being cheap and marketed as budget. It is absolutely terrible. Not maintained at all. Dirty room, dirty ensuite. Cannot recommend it at all. It is nothing like the photos. The whole place needs an upgrade. Needs to be painted. The air conditioner our room needed to be replaced. So noisy like having a train in the room, plus it rattled, we spent considerable time trying to pack it with cardboard so it wouldnt3make so much noise.

My husband, son and their friend stopped here for 1 night of 7 in April 2014. Its the worst place they have ever been too. Absolute filth. The beds were old and well used as were the towels. One of the beds was broken. My son went in the shower with his socks on in case he caught anything as the floor was dirty. The toilet as they entered first time had stale urine in the bowl. One part used toilet roll on the holder for all 3 of them to use. The cups were dirty. Cockroaches crawled around inside. They are still having nightmares about this stay. My husband demanded his money back. They couldnt get it all back. They had to forfeit their second and part third nights payment. This was a disgrace as it was a pure dump of a motel. But they got what they could and went to another hotel which was heaven compared to this hell hole. DONT ever stop here. It should be a 1 star hotel rating if that.

I am as I'm writing this currently staying at this awful motel while in Darwin working, only been here for two nights so far and had another 12 booked but since getting tinnea on my feet from the mouldy and filthy shower, the 11 flea bites on my ankles the other guests drinking nightly and sitting on their balconies drunk and cursing into the early hours of the morning and not even trying to do it quietly this is by far the worst hotel or motel I have ever stayed in.

I have booked elsewhere in Darwin to stay and will be leaving this flea ridden hell hole as soon as friggin possible.

The also refuse to give refunds for any reason and I now know why now, because even the Management know how terrible a place to stay the Capricornia is.

Avoid it like the plague!

Where do i start..... As part of our regular travelling job, my partner and I were sent on a 6 week stint to the NT. We needed to stay 2 and a half weeks and at last notice at the end of dry season, accommodation was rare, and even rarer in our travel allowance range! Whilst there were other places available by price, nobody but here had availability.

The owners are a couple whos husband is a pilot, she is lovely, although i suspect a bit tired of the running the place. There is an older couple who looks after the place at other times, and they are also pleasant and we had some nice conversations by the pool. The cleaners are rude thieves who rifled through our stuff whilst we were at work. The owner even told us she had trouble employing reliable staff.

The rooms,,,, ohh my god, i have literally worked on two prison construction projects, and those guys get bigger and nicer rooms! they are small, the one we got was about 2.5 x 2.5m square, filthy with ants everywhere and cockroaches in the bathroom. tiles were broken, toilet broken, curtains broken, electrical outlets broken, bed broken aircon mediocre, i think the only thing not broken was the door lock.

At all hours there are Bogans getting drunk, fighting and swearing. One transient decided to defecate in the driveway. The pool area is nice, but i cut my foot on broken glass in the pool!

The location is good, being across the road from the beach and sailing club which does great meals, and a short drive to everywhere in Darwin.

Parking is a nightmare, about 6 spots inside and very limited on street parking out front.

Whilst we did get a good long term rate, we would never consider this place ever again, and i would recommend unless you are desperate, to seek alternatives.

The photos shown on this site are not rarities and one off's,,, this is sadly the standard of the motel.
