We enjoyed out stay as the room had everything that we needed for our stay. The air conditioning worked well as it was still very hot even in early june. The rooms and bathroom decor are dated but its clean and the beds are comfortable and so it was a great place to stay at a good price. Off street car parking is good and its not far to travel by car to the main points of interest around darwin. Staff were friendly and helpful. The wifi is patchy in your room but they warn you that this is the case

We stayed at the Paravista Motel Parap May 2012 (1 night) and (2 nights) June 2012, before and after travelling to Kakadu. The Paravista is for travellers who want very clean rooms, friendly staff and budget accommodation!

Paravista Motel is located only 5 minutes to Darwin CBD by car. Also only 5 minutes to the Fannie Bay/Darwin Trailer Boat Club with the most magnificent sunsets over Fannie Bay while eating your meal outdoors in their beer garden.

What a great find The Paravista was for us!

I stayed at the Paravista for a total of 3 nights in early October. The main reasons I chose the hotel were that they would keep my bag in storage for 4 days while I went on a tour, their prices were within my budget while most of the other hotels in Darwin were too expensive, and,a huge plus, they have free wifi in their rooms; most of the other hotels in Darwin charge for use of the internet! I was very happy with the room- spacious, nice decor,a balcony, good fan and air conditioning, basic but clean en suite shower room&toilet, tea and coffee facilities,a big fridge, and the wifi worked very well! The hotel reception is closed after 7pm but there is an out of hours phone number, and the hotel owners live next door. I got prompt and helpful responses from the owner by text when I was going to be returning from my tour after 7pm and needed to check back in. The only tiny criticism regarding service was that I left my room late morning one day and put a sign on my door asking for the room to be cleaned, but it did not get cleaned. I was travelling alone and did not have a car. The number 10 bus goes into town and the bus stop is about a 3 min walk from the hotel. The bus runs until about 10pm at night, later on fri&sats. I used a taxi to return from Cullen bay to the hotel and it wasn't too expensive. I heard that sometimes it can be difficult to get taxis in Darwin but this one was prompt, though it wasn't a weekend evening. Coming from Darwin city centre, the bus stop is again about 2-3 min walk from the hotel along a quiet and slightly dark street. I was comfortable with returning by bus after dark but did not stay out that late. I quite liked seeing a more residential and quieter area of Darwin, and the Paravista is handy for walking to the NT museum and the ski club, which I walked to in about 15 mins. I think it is also near Mindl beach and the botanic gardens, and it is about 5 min walk from Parap village shops, where the Sunday market is held. The hotel pool seemed clean and was very refreshing in the heat. There is also a BBQ by the pool for communal use. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it especially for groups of friends or couples;a car is not really necessary provided you don't mind using buses or taxi or walking!

I have stayed here now a few times, the rooms are always clean! the area is quiet and easy to access central Darwin (if you have a car).

The rooms are not the most modern but for the price you cant go wrong! One feature this motel does have is really friendly staff! i can't tell you enough how welcoming they are! its amazing in this day and age that front counter staff like this still exist! (well done!) there is never enough they wont do to make your stay enjoyable.

I have no trouble in recommending this motel for the budget mindful travellers who want clean rooms, friendly staff and reliable accommodation! ill be back again! and again!

Darwin tends to be very unreasonable when it comes to service and value in regards to accomodation. There are basically three choices: backpackers in the town center, but they are often dirty and too loud to actually get some sleep, big hotels in the town center, but they can be hundreds of $$ per night, or a decent more quiet hotel a bit out of town.

Paravista Motel is very good in terms of value for Darwin, rooms have new carpets ANC have been renovated in 2008, it's a very clean, relaxing and quiet place. I think it's perfect for anyone appreciating a bit of comfort on a budget.

The only drawback is the location. Taxi to Mindell Beach or town is $12, but there's also a bus not too far away.

Located in a quiet suburban street only one street back from the main road in Parap which is close to the city. The motel itself is pre cyclone, so has a nice 1970's retro charm which I love, if ultra slick and ultra modern is your thing this is not your place! The room was very clean with a nice balcony and a good comfortable bed and good wardrobe space. The owners are very helpful and friendly. The Paravista represents fantastic value and i would not hesitate to stay there again.

A bit of background: I rode my bicycle 8,000km from Adelaide to Darwin and I stayed in some pretty grungy places - and a few nice ones - including camping in a tent, bush/guerrilla camping, pub rooms, pub cabins, motels, and so on). My wife booked this hotel when she rendezvous-ed with me before we flew back to home to Canada.

The Paravista is a motel that is >30 years old and doesn't seem to have had any major infrastructure upgrades since then. Having said that, it is well-kept and clean. We stayed on the 3rd floor in rooms 17 and 18, at two different times. We did encounter ants but that is definitely a pretty common for Australia, so no big deal for me (don't leave food out). The Paravista is just off Stuart Highway in a quiet neighbourhood about 3km from Darwin center (Mitchell St. area). On my last 2 days in Darwin, when I had time to kill waiting for a flight home, I actually walked from downtown to the Paravista. You can also take the bus. It's reasonably close to Mindl Beach and Museum of the NT (definitely both are very walk-able). Most people would probably be well-advised to have a car, though, when taking into consideration how much they have paid just to get to Darwin, i.e., time is money.

Our rooms included: TV (flat screen), a/c, ceiling fan, free wi-fi, fridge, tea/coffee, kettle, glasses, bowls/plates/utensils and a balcony. There is a pool, full kitchen, laundry ($2 washer/dryer) and apparently a BBQ (we didn't use). We did not see a phone nor hairdryer. In fact, wireline phones are very rare these days and I did not see one in in ANY paid room of my 4 months of travelling Australia.

There is basic local shopping available in less than a 10 minute walk, including a newsagent, a high-end grocery store ("Fine Foods"), a great coffee house, and various restaurants (we didn't do the restaurants there, though). Be sure not to miss the great local market on Saturdays from 7:30am to 1pm. I recognized some of the Thuirsday night Mindl Beach vendors at the Saturday Market, too.

We spent 5 nights in the Paravista before doing a week-long tour of Kakadu National Park and then another night after the Kakadu tour, just before flying back home to Canada.

I've saved the best for last: the customer service is second to none at the Paravista. Nelson and Tenielle are the two employees I dealt with and both were helpful and friendly. However, Nelson is the person I dealt with mostly and he went out of his way to accommodate me in the following ways:
- called airport shuttle bus for info and booking on my behalf
- asked and called around to find flowers for me to buy for my wife who I hadn't seen for > 3 months (he found a place nearby)
- made all the usual touristy suggestions
- made suggestions on where to buy supplies to box my bicycle for the flight
- gave a great room rate on our return visit for our last night before flying home
- graciously stored our luggage and boxed bike for a week while we toured Kakadu by rental car
- graciously extended check-out time to accommodate our late flight
- printed out my eTicket for my flight (need paper one for international flights)
- and various other 'little' but important things

So, I gave 3 points out of 5 for the facilities and 1 point for the awesome customer service. I'd give it a 1/2 point for good value but can't do that on trip advisor. I can't ethically give it 5/5. Bottom line: unless you're fabulously wealthy and can afford a $400/night room, I think you would find exceptional value in this motel. Darwin is now the most expensive place to buy a house in Australia, so this is not a cheap city to visit. I would definitely return the Paravista.

I had a one night business trip to Darwin, so was just looking for somewhere to store my bags and sleep. The service I received and the quality of the rooms for the price was excellent. I was greeted personally (by name as I had booked on line) by the very friendly and helpful manager Nelson. The rooms were clean and simple but superior to other places I have stayed at more than double the price. I'll definitely be back.

I was staying at the paravista the weekend of the wedding party from the 27th till the 30th of sept. and I witnessed first hand the disgusting drunken behaviour of the ( wedding party ) guests and I to was one of the people who rang the managers to complain about the noise and as far as I am concerned the managers should have rang the police and had you all arrested and then thrown the lot of you out, but thankfully this is the only time that I have had a bad experience staying at this motel (no fault of the managers ) I have stay here more than ten different occasions and I can never say anything bad about the place, it is still my home away from home
