So convenient and easy to get to by car and great on site parking. Great location, near to all of the amazing sights of Sydney Harbour and easy to get to Taronga zoo which was the main purpose of our trip.
The Hotel was close to circular quay and public transport staff friendly and helpful nothing too much trouble. Clean and roomy, good buffet breakfast kids welcome, could leave luggage on check out while spending day exploring
It's been a great hotel for a long time and is well maintained. The position, 5 minutes from ferries and train services at Circular Quay makes this hotel, together with good amenities including gym and pool worthy of consideration.
I had always wanted to stay at the Sir Stamford with its porch roof over the pavement and those little juliette balconies opposite the Conservatorium and Sydney Botanical Gardens. It also came highly recommended. Thinking I would do what hotels often ask us to do, I booked directly through the hotel. Big mistake - the price I was given on bore little resemblance to the final invoice - a $90 gap difference for one night. (I could not make a fuss there and then, as it had been a special treat for my partner). The problem with booking on the hotel website is that there is no solid confirmation of the price - the booking is confirmed but not details re price are given. (It's back to my favourite booking sites for me. The Deluxe room itself was lovely - good size, overlooking the botanical gardens and with a tiny juliette balcony as I had always hoped. The high tea delivered to our room shortly after checking in, was mostly nicely done, especially the scones and some of the savouries. Staff, especially female staff were mostly very helpful and efficient. Food was a big failing. After our early concert, we hoped for quality room service supper, ( However the prawn wonton soup was gluey and overcooked yet with the chewiest prawns I have ever tasted. The hummus plate was a little better. (Note -the only bar in the hotel closes about 10pm!). Breakfast was disappointing despite the valiant efforts in the understaffed dining room coping with a semi-Covid set up where orders were taken by staff but the food came from bain-maries and side tables. The result of this was a tortuously slow meal, where each item only came after much effort catching the attention of the overworked staff. Some orders were incorrect, and we at the second sitting, (they had made efforts to separate sittings to deal with the problematic process) had to deal with cool over-stewed 'hot' breakfasts - when they finally came. I can see it must be a huge problem organising breakfasts within COVID limitations, but that is perhaps all the more reason why the hotel should *not* be offering packages that included breakfast? So great location and potential but we will be much more cautious if we ever wanted a classy hotel near Circular Quay again.…
We had booked a room at the Stamford Airport, had the booking for a year, all prepaid, including buffet breakfast, however, a few days before we were due to stay, they emailed to say they had ‘urgent maintenance to do’, a worker told us it was actually becoming a quarantine hotel. Hence, we were transferred to Sydney Circular Quay. We had booked a very nice room at Stamford Airport, knew the size, cleanliness etc, and expected an equivalent room at circular quay, given the huge inconvenience. However, we were given a dark, dingy room which smelt dank and mouldy. It was only marginally bigger than the bed, although they said it was a superior king room. Furniture was old, and very worn. It needed a proper paint job and wallpaper to be cleaned. Things were not clean, we even found used tissues under the bed! Eww! The smell of the room triggered an asthma attack, which I don’t normally get. A couple of days before we were due to go, we were sent an email guaranteeing our hot breakfast to be delivered to room, due to COVID. However, on arrival, we were told that we couldn’t have it (despite having prepaid) as it took the chefs too long to cook, and we needed to be at airport early. Extremely disappointing. We were also charged again for the room and breakfast when we checked in, although we had prepaid. This, however, should be fixed.(hopefully) We have stayed at both Stamford’s in Sydney, and whilst the staff are good, Stamford Circular Quay has really let us down this time, and I could not recommend them. The rooms need an update and complete makeover and clean. Like once before, I imagine we will just get a ‘come again and we will do better’ response, and nothing substantial to make up for the inconvenience, the filth and lack of value for money.…
