Great hotel. Close to everything. The concierge and front of house staff were very welcoming. We had a great stay. We were upgraded to a Harbourview room when I mentioned it was our anniversary us a late checkout provided at no extra cost.
Can’t speak highly enough about this hotel. We had a lovely room overlooking the botanical gardens with the morning sun coming up. Our room was very spacious with a king size bed. The staff are fabulous & can’t do enough for you. We had breakfast included which was plentiful with lots of choice of cooked or continental. Check in and out was pain free with very little wait. We would definitely book again when next in Sydney.
Unfortunately the heated pool was freezing cold, we booked direct and requested a dining option which was not followed up so when we arrived the booking had not been made! One of the beds was obviously old and lopsided. Room 1411. Tea cup in the cupboard dirty and stuck to the saucer. Location excellent and other than the cup/saucer cleanliness excellent, pleasant and helpful staff at the location( obviously phone staff not so efficient due to dinner requests not being followed through)
We went to the ground floor bar for a few drinks before going to our booking on the rooftop bar. The 6 of us sat down and that was it. There were 5 or so staff behind the bar doing heavens knows what as we sat there for 10-15 minutes and just gave up as no one wanted to serve us. We just got up and left and not one staff member even noticed. Terrible staff in the ground floor bar in the InterContinental Sydney. And I will not be back and would not recommend to anyone.
Excellent hotel and stay. I must admit I read a few negative reviews here on intercontinental Sydney but I don't think they are justified at all. The refurbishment this hotel has undergone has it up to an excellent standard with all the modern furnishings. The room was comfortable and spacious with a lovely view of the botanical gardens (eastview) . IHG diamond benefits were honoured without issue (this was a reward stay for me). I have travelled a lot over the last year and a half and I'd say the breakfast was one of the best I've had worldwide. My only complaint would be the coffee was average when ordering a lungo/Americano/long black, what you are given can vary from place to place but here It was just overly watered down crap. No issue with ordering a cappuccino or latte. All in all it's an excellent hotel I would stay again. …
After reading the previous reviews I was very trepidatious about staying at the Intercontinental. I was pleasantly surprised with a beautiful lobby area, lovely room and view. The room was tastefully furnished and spotlessly clean. Amazing Byredo products and quality teas, coffee etc. Reception staff were warm/helpful and breakfast was one of the best I have ever had. The only down side was the staff at the Treasury bar were not friendly to everyone, they seemed to welcome some but not others. We canceled eating there due to this. I would definitely stay there again!
I had the opportunity to visit the Intercontinental in Sydney this month. The renovations are almost complete with the exception of some critical areas. The hotel looks great in many areas but there are problems. Firstly the Club lounge situation is absolutely unsatisfactory, I understand there have been delays in the new lounge the remedy to this would have been to use the old lounge. The business Centre or what is supposed to be a business Centre is not fit for purpose. If there is no printer, no scanner, no stationary, no staff, no desk its a waiting room. The renovated restaurant for breakfast but the chemical spew that is impersonating Orange juice is obviously terrible. The rest of the breakfast layout was excellent and I have no idea why you would use concentrate. Service was good at breakfast. The treasury restaurant has a good new menu and I had a seafood dish that was quite good and another evening a steak that was cooked perfectly so the kitchen is working well there. The room renovations are good, the bathroom style functions well. The hotel did contact me before I arrived in Australia to advise on the problems with the lounge, and they have done this previously since turning the club lounge into a public bar 2 years ago. The location is fantastic and it was not convenient to change my plans before arrival. I hope the hotel can do better in the future.…
Book 2 nights stay with my wife, on Xmas day and Boxing Day for the king bed room with IHG Diamond tier and Intercontinental Ambassador membership. Because this hotel has too many different tier of room (all same size same design king room, the only difference is the view or high floor) so I only get upgrade to king room with east harbour view, not even close to suite because still have 4 or 5 tier king room above. Although bit disappoint but I understand, that’s fine! Many hotel doing this now. After get into the room, I want to drink some water so check the water glass, oh looks good they are crystal glass but still with brand mark sticker on it, hmm now I know these are very new glass, maybe not even washed? Ok…then I sit in the middle of the bed try to watch TV and found out the “king bed” is actually 2 single bed put together with a very uncomfortable gap in the middle and my bum was painful when I sit into the gap. I went talk to the front desk and the staff say will change another room with real king bed mattress, ask me to wait in the first room, they need to make sure the new room with real king bed. After around 30minutes, the staff take me to new room in the higher floor (same view but higher), I get in and check the mattress straight away, not surprise, still 2 single bed mattress put together. Went down to front desk with all my luggage and told them I’m really really upset. Finally the manager come to talk to me and said will find another room for me. He took me to a new room ( same view same king type) and check with me it’s real king mattress. I told him after all these issues and the time (almost 2 hours after I arrive hotel) I expecting he give me better room like suite then he decided to upgrade me to next tier, king room with bridge view half block by a building. Until here I already feel so tired and decided to give up so I accept the room. During the stay, many small detail make me feel what happened to this place? The bed sheet didn’t fit well, the cover of the base of bed didn’t put well, the small bar fridge door so dirty, tea table dirty, two bathrobe with different hotel label (where is another one from?!), the new bath towel with big dirty black dots, the turn down service put the tea cup on the tea table but with her long hair on it as well. The staff told us to go to a totally block stair when we try to go 1 floor to have breakfast. Breakfast counter hide very well and no staff come out to guide the guests. Been told no table in the main dinning area but saw at least 3 tables are ready to sit. So many little thing made me feel why I pay for Ambassador membership and come to stay in this hotel? I stay many different hotel in Australia and I have high tier membership with few other hotel groups, really really disappoint with this hotel……very bad experience and will not come back to Sydney Intercontinental hotel again. If you thinking a 5 star luxury hotel in Sydney, I will recommend Sofitel Darling harbour or Four season, don’t come to this one. …
Bar staff at the new Treasury are great and the renovated bathrooms are certainly an improvement on the old, but these are the only plusses. Service within the hotel itself was extremely poor, very much short of the old standards. We waited nearly an hour for our baggage to be taken up. Pillows were requested but never arrived. As returning guests we booked through the hotel but left hand reception had no idea what the right hand call centre promised. From the rude check in staff who had no details of our actual booking, through to the uppity manager who told us guests were not admitted to the rooftop bar without a booking and referenced the “hotel t&c’s” - what has this institution become. I guess with staff shortages across the industry you just have to accept rude and short service which our stay has exemplified. It’s great to see that the exteriors have been given a good wash though, so you can actually see out the window and if you look closely you can see the terrazzo on this wonderful modernist building, but inside is a totally different story.…
Fantastic hotel in a perfect location close to the Opera house, harbour bridge, the rocks and the CBD. Hotel rooms were nice, if a little basic. Bathrooms are on the small side but have everything you need. Room had a fantastic view out to the water. Downside to this place were the bars. Lobby bar needs to have more selection of spirits, beers and a better choice of cocktails. Menu is severely lacking. Don’t get me started on the $8 for a takeaway coffee. The Aster bar also needs work. Staff didn’t acknowledge us despite saying take a seat and someone will be over. 15 minutes later.. we were still waiting. When asked if they could make up classic cocktail, Long Island ice tea and a Tom Collins they initially said yes only to return five minutes saying they can’t make classic cocktails. For a decent establishment like that you would expect that staff could make up the classics. Overall it’s definitely worth staying in. If they can improve on those points it should continue to be one of the best options in Sydney…
