I booked a Family Ground Floor room at the Chelsea Motor Inn, Coffs Harbour in November 2022 and was grateful to get somewhere we could stay for 1 night as a break in our drive up to Brisbane to visit family. I was also happy to get a ground floor room, as I have a disability where my mobility is lessened due to surgeries to my feet. I also find it difficult to walk up a flight of stairs.
Our stay at the motel on December 27, 2022, started out on a bad note. We arrived to find that the family room which I had booked on Booking.com was being renovated (and had been so for 3 months!) A few angry words were said by my partner. The owner mentioned that he had contacted booking.com about it. Why didn’t they contact me about it? They deducted $160 off our bill.
The owner offered another room upstairs and we reluctantly took it as we knew that there weren’t many vacancies in Coffs Harbour, let alone for one night. My partner helped me to get up and down the stairs.
The room was average, but we were only staying for one night. The kids were happy as they had their own room. The mattress on the queen size bed was something that I can liken to a sunny side up egg - cooked on the outside and soft on the inside. My back felt the pain the next morning.
We hit the road for Brisbane and stayed for a week with family. While in Brisbane I rang the Chelsea Motor Inn to confirm that the room that I had booked in November was ready for our stay when driving back to Sydney. The person I spoke to on the phone said that it had.
Our Brisbane holiday was complete, and we drove back to Coffs to stay the night.
And yes, the room was available… newly renovated. It suited us for the one night. Negative aspects of the room: • even though we used the air conditioning, the ceiling fan had an immense amount of visible dust • no mirror in the bathroom, or anywhere for that matter • the noise of the trucks and 'hoons' along the highway
Positive aspects of the room: • the supply of plates, cutlery, glasses etc for our dinner (we had very minimal supply in our last room) • the owner came to our room after we had checked in to apologise to us about the last stay
In total, we spent $1160 on our accommodation. I understand that tourism places are wanting to get people back travelling but after experiencing this at an average motel, I will re-think our future trips.

Ok, the positives. The staff were very lovely and helpful. We booked on a very busy weekend and they gave us a discounted price on a family room, as there were only 2 of us.
But....the room was pretty mediocre. Carpets are stained and torn, windows filthy and bathroom extremely out dated with dirty walls and windows, and smelled funny. The shower wasnt great and we could barely get any cold water. Seriously the whole room was so outdated and in need of a good refurbishment. The room was at the front of the motel, and so noisy.
The bed linen was clean, as were towels.
Having said all this, i can see that they are working on the look of the motel so maybe soon, the room will be updated. I may return one day to stay but not until there's a bit more work done on the rooms.

A cheap bed for the night given the fact we had 4 beds to choose from and 2 rooms. Downfall, we were upstairs. Handy location, but on the main road through Coffs Harbour, being a light sleeper, earplugs would have been beneficial. Close to pub, club and next door to Dan Murphy's.

The motel is looking its age - old - on the outside and car park and even the sign. My room (at least) has been renovated though with only tiles on the floor - I would not want to stay there if it was cold.
Despite Covid restrictions all being lifted as far as I know, there was still no room service during my 3 days there. The password for the much advertised free wi-fi was wrong in the compendium. There was no Breakfast heading in the compendium, so no point in looking for it: I had to read it all to find that my menu could be filled out at reception but it was closed before 5pm even though it was meant to be open until 9:30pm - so I had no go out for breakfast.
I was charged by Bookings.com A$365.33 per night, the motel got A$280 for a room that was worth maybe A$140pn if everything worked. I booked almost 3 months in advance and a colleague who booked through Bookings.com. about 3 weeks in advance was charged A$160pn.
All in all, I would not stay there again.

We stayed in this motel on the way to Brisbane. Upon entering the room we found that the carpet had not been vacuumed but could overlook this so dropped our bags and went for tea. On return we went to use the shower which had recently been renovated and looked nice. Apparently the cleaners couldn’t be bothered picking up the used soap on the floor. Time for bed and when we pulled back the covers it was apparent that the sheets had not been changed as there was dirt on the sheet and it was all ruffled up as if it had been slept in. We don’t recommend this place and as there are multiple venues in Coffs, please avoid this one!

We were given room number 9 which was furtherest from the main road of Coffs . The room was run down and in need of repairs. Gyprock on the wall near the coffee machine needed repair and painting . The bed is rock hard and only had a bedspread and sheet set, a blanket was supplied on the floor of the cupboard but I was hesitant to use it as cleanliness did not seem to be a priority. Investigating the coffee facilities found the tea towel in the draw in disgusting condition which I threw in with the towels to be washed when we left. The bathroom was the biggest problem as both taps in the sink need washers replaced as they leaked and the shower tiles had a large crack. I would think that cleaners would assess problems as they clean and pass maintenance issues on to management. It did appear that this motel was used mainly by tradies. I think an area should be set up on the other side of the car park away from the rooms for anyone who wished to smoke as we were in the corner next to the stairs and had a fellow outside talking business and smoking on and off for a number of hours. Hopefully the new owners are rectifying these problems and will keep an eye on the reviews as we regularly travel to qld and stay at Coffs as a stop over but in its current state will not stay or recommend this motel to anyone.

The smell of the room was really bad. No security lock on the door. TV & Wi-Fi did not work at first. Overall room was dirty and smelly. The bed while not comfortable was clean and crisp. They charged us for a family room of which it was. The price for the room was $350 I think. I asked for pension or ex military discount and they reduced the price to $280 for the night for two people.
The place is run down and at such exuberant prices I do believe they need to clean it up. Broken toilet roll holder, loose toilet seat. When the vanity cabinet got opened a cockroach ran down the hole next to the sink pipe. Boogers on the main bed head. Just check the pictures attached.
I am sorry to the owners for such a bad review. But I do have to be honest. Would I stay here again. That would be NO.

Room 29 needs urgent attention. Guests’ health at risk. Had to leave early but emailed concerns to property. No response. Bathroom tiles and shower cubicle were not cleaned. Exhaust fans, aircon and ceiling fan were covered in dust and grime. Refrigerator was not on, there was mould in freezer, and the jug was dirty. I booked a Deluxe Queen room but got a family room right on the highway with lots of heavy traffic noise. I am sorry I booked the Chelsea and will never return.

On arrival, we found our room to be very basic and a bit dated when compared to other motel rooms we have stayed in. Our room was number 10 down at the rear of the motel so we did not have any road noise to worry us. As for the motel it was located in a very handy spot for access to the main shops, the two hotels nearby and the Services club across the road. Our biggest complaint was on finding out at 9.30 pm that there were no towels in our room. At that time of night the office was shut but fortunately for us we had our own towels. Then in the morning we found a toaster, two coffee mugs and two teaspoons in the cupboard, but no plates, no saucers, no knives, no forks and no tablespoons. On inquiring about this we were told that it is standard practice these days to go to the office and get them. Finally our next complaint was the TV was not working properly. It was a very basic TV having no channel numbers pad instead you had to scroll through all the channels until you got the channel you wanted. In doing that we sometimes lost the picture but not the sound. In the end we got one channel and left it there.
