Detailed Reviews
The resort is excellent and the owner, Edgar, is a great host. For the price this is one of the top resorts in the Philippines. The resort is not on the beach and Sibuyan does not really have any good beaches, but the resort has a wonderful river swimming spot.
Sibuyan is a remote island and can be really difficult to get to. Traveling there is not suitable for rolling bags, backpacks are a must. When we went there, taking the pump boat from Romblon, that boat was broken and a reserve boat could not go all the way because of the waves. We got dumped on an extremely remote beach, wading to get ashore. If Edgar had not figured out that this was going on, we would have been stuck. That in itself may not be a big deal but after a long trip on buses and boats an issue like this can be quite painful. The best way to get to/from Sibuyan is by the big boat from Batangas that arrives to Romblon or the once a week big boat going all the way to Cajidiocan. Of those two the Cadijidocan-Batangas route is the best.
Remember that Sibuyan has a big volcano that attracts rain and so rainy season does not end for sure until February. December weather varies wildly.

I love this hotel. It is the best place we stayed in during our travels in the Philippines. Spotlessly clean rooms and bathrooms. Divine garden to explore and stroll around. A natural swimming hole big enough for a good swim and deep enough to jump in. Great value restaurant with plenty of choice. Wonderful and great value in-room massages. Super friendly and helpful staff. I can't recommend Sanctuary Garden highly enough. It's lovingly looked after and the owners and staff have got it all so right. Everything a traveller could possibly want for a retreat on Sibuyan Island.

Sanctuary Garden Resort is nestled between a small mountain and a river. This makes it very ideal for people who love nature. Being used to staying in the beach, we didn't know what to expect going to Sibuyan Island but we were amazed with the diverse nature places that the islands offer. The rooms were very basic but were adequate. However, service could be improved better if they would offer to change sheets and towels daily (stayed here for 3 nights). I guess if we requested, they would've done it anyway. One other thing was the bathroom drain, which they said was really slow for all the rooms. Maybe management can look into this as well. What was nice about the resort though was that the staff were friendly, accessibility to hiking and swimming in the river nearby (which we immensely enjoyed). Having a toddler though, our activities in Sibuyan were limited to visiting Lambingan falls (it was gorgeous!!), firefly watching, and going around town. We plan to come back as soon as my son can hike a bit more and stay at this same resort.

The room we had was very comfy, most of the staff people were really friendly, and the surroundings were very beautiful and quiet. Definitively one of our three best places during our two months stay in the philippines.

This is a wonderful resort! The gardens are stunning and it is so nice to walk thru and see all the lovely plants. It also has wonderful ariel views of the island. Everything is very clean and well kept. There is ac and hot water! We stayed in a private villa with two beds and one non shared bathroom which was nice. I think the main guest house has shared baths like a locker room. The restaurant has a wide and wonderful selection of food and drink. They also have a little pharmacy on site which was a life saver, I was very sick. They also have great entertainment in the restaurant area. The staff is wonderful as well. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone!

After discovering Sibuyan a little bit, I am convinced that Sanctuary Garden Resort is probably the best place to stay on the island. The location is great, the room we stayed in was clean and spacious but a little bit outdated (it actually smelled moldy in the room - not sure, whether it was due to rainy season etc.), the aircon loud, at the same time I was missing a fan that would have been totally sufficient, the bathroom with marble tiles nice but after coming back from a morning run I had no water in the shower.
However, the buildings and the garden have been designed in an authentic way, and it is beautiful to be in nature. The food I would rate as surprisingly boring. I read many reviews here and maybe I just ordered the wrong things (we had at least 10 different items, though), but I could not tell it was special or even good.
All in all, still a good experience (I would rate it with 3.5), the rooms are fairly priced, and given the fact that Sibuyan is really remote, one should not expect that everything is perfect, especially food-wise. It is a good place to start your Sibuyan adventure around Mt. Guiting-Guiting.

This place feels like a home away from home. The place is amazing! They build the structures to blend in with the surroundings. It's absolutely peaceful, there are so many spots here with jaw-dropping beauty. There's a dam nearby with a perfect view of Mt. Guiting-Guiting come sunset, when you row a bit. The staff in Sanctuary will treat you like family. I love this place! Been here several times for work the past 2 years. The rooms are very clean, and they have a few rooms with water heaters. I've pretty much tried almost every kind of room they have, and no matter what price the room is, they keep it clean. I definitely recommend Sanctuary Garden Resort if you'll be going to Sibuyan Island.

Arriving on Sibuyan is already stunning. Staying at Garden Sanctuary toppled my definition for stunning and beautiful. Amidst the rain forest, it has very good amenities, good food all day long, helpful staff, good prices and an immensely beautiful surroundings. highly recommanded.

I realy liked Sanctuary Gardens, its a lovely setting with lots of flowers. Very well organised, spottless clean, a good restaurant. There are also dorms in a nice wooden building with good bathrooms.
Edgar Mayor and his wife and the staff are so friendly.
I came for the mountain ( Mt. Guiting-Guiting ) and Edgar was very helpful with information about the permit, the trail, and arranging for a guide.
( on a more personal note: usually I get woken up ( in many places in the Phillipines ) by dogs, roosters or noisy people (including staff). did not happen here)
a real peaceful place, and thank You again
