Hotel is nice…. Staff was accommodating… little issues
Were .. TV not working… beach was under construction
Ocean was filled with trash… seems like a lot of plastic ..
Had good security… Restaurant overpriced compared to the area.. They could use a pool to compete with the near by hotels … The noise(Music?) from a nearby bar was unbelievably loud till 11-12 pm … Breakfast was adequate…

Original booking was for 3 nights in a deluxe garden view room.
Arriving a day early we tried to add an additional night using AGODA. Tried ringing the hotel direct. Both failed. We could only book an additional night in a deluxe sea view room. We were disappointed to find that our deluxe garden view room (#21) was empty the night we spent in the deluxe sea view room. This meant 1 night in 1 room then move everything to the new room for the next 3 nights. The sea view room was superior. The resort is in a good location with terrific staff. I had read TA reviews about the hotel charging guests for staining towels and linen. You must sign a written agreement upon check-in about the fees they charge for stains and damage. I photographed the linen (with holes) and towels (threadbare) just in case. Inconsiderate guests were too loud in the passage way outside the rooms. Earplugs are needed.

Marlin’s Beach Resort is one of the best front beach resort in Santa Fe. The location was superb and in town! There was 7 of us and we all loved our experience. The staffs are all very happy, cheerful, polite, helpful. Especially Ate Jane and Ate Tetchie.

This hotel has exceeded its range level. In our experience, Marlin’s Resort is worth more than what we paid for.

We stayed here foe a wedding on the island. We loved the location. You are literally on the beach. We had a room with a balcony facing the ocean. it was gorgeous. The only negative, the loud people on the beach at 3am. So rude!! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was great too. Thanks for an awesome stay!

I was looking for a nice beach front resort in Bantayan which offers bedrooms with twin beds and came across Marlin's. I found the beach front room rate of P4,200 a night quite expensive but i couldn't get a better place that would fit my requirements so I booked four rooms (3 beach front and one de luxe). I found the staff very accommodating when I talked to them over the phone so I thought everything would be okay. I was wrong.

Well, on the plus side, the resort is small but charming and secured. The beach is awesome -- clean, wide, with soft white sand and just a few steps from our room. There are beach chairs for lounging around and a bar which offers short orders but doesn't have any dessert. Food takes some time to be served so it's not a good idea to eat there when you are famished. Btw, the location is great since it is only about 5-10 minutes from the port and is just walking distance from the restaurant/bar row.

The beach front room is spacious, with two single beds, a ref, and cable TV. The water pressure is great and I had a wonderful time taking a shower. There was a stale seawater smell, however, when we first entered the room but nothing to fret about. The free Filipino or American breakfast is generous enough to make us last for the rest of the morning.

Now the cons. Actually, this problem could have been avoided if only the staff were more meticulous and trained. Everything went smoothly when we checked in except for my bedroom. Although we arrived at 3:30 pm, my room wasn't ready yet since the previous occupant had yet to vacate it. Apparently, there was a mix up. The other guest made a reservation for three nights but only two nights were recorded. Good for me that I already paid a 50% dp, thus, they couldn't force me to transfer to another hotel. Of course, the evicted guest was pissed off. Then after that was resolved, another problem cropped up. I was given a room with a queen-sized bed when I specifically requested for two beds since I have to share it with another person. I learned that while I was already assigned a specific room on the first floor, another staff member gave it to another guest. Apparently, they thought that I wouldn't mind it as long as it's in the same category. Again, I wouldn't budge so they had no choice but to ask the guest occupying our original room to move to the one recently vacated. That was another pissed off guest. Honestly, I was also at the end of my patience and was just trying to keep calm else, I would have given the staff a scare with my temper. Having been on the road since 8 am, I was already dead tired and was looking forward to a relaxing afternoon. But because of such incompetencies, I only managed to enter my room at around 5:30 pm, barely enough time to take a nap and prepare myself for the 7 pm dinner. Well, the staff were very apologetic and gave me an P800 discount for my room to compensate for the hassle. Btw, there was supposed to be free wifi at the reception area but although I could get a strong signal, I simply couldn't connect. I requested help from the staff but I was told to just wait. I gave up and instead used my own wireless broadband account. Also, the resort doesn't accept credit cards although when I asked over the phone, they said I could pay with my card. Fortunately, I had enough cash with me.

But despite such incidents, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Marlin's if only for the beach which I think is better than other resorts in the area.

GENERAL OBSERVATION
Bantayan island is a great beach location, beautiful with its white sand and shallow waters; and definitely laid back, low key and relaxing. That is the vibe I was seeking. Nightlife should not be the draw to inspire visit but there are cafes and restaurants that will satisfy one's need for things different. I will unhesitatingly return.
By the way, Virgin Island makes a good day trip that requires a thirty minute boat ride from the beach where
fisherman will offer to take you--take a larger fishing boat to be safest. That expense runs from 700-1000 pesos.

GETTING THERE
Don't be intimidated about the trip to get there either--a simple 3 hour air conditioned bus ride (get a window seat) for 160 pesos from Cebu City's North Terminal to the Port of Hagnaya and then, after another 100+/- pesos, it's about an hour's, very comfortable, open air ferry ride across the bay to the port on the island. Upon arrival, you'll be solicited by many locals trying to eek out their own slice of wealth in this world who will offer baggage handling service and trike rides to your hotel for <50 pesos. I arranged hotel transfer and the Marlin's air conditioned van was a welcomed sight (and an oh-so-cool break from the heat) for the five minute ride from the port. Honestly, the transportation was no big deal at all. .

THE VENUE
I stayed at Marlin's Beach Resort for eight days. My disappointments were few and my accolades are many. First off, the staff is exceptional--from the van driver, the 24/7 security guard, the restaurant staff, the front desk attendants, housekeeping and even the groundskeepers. You will always be greeted with a courteous hello, a smile and a bit of chatting too if you wish. The facility was always clean. The grounds were always immaculate with the sand always raked smoothly and organic debris not present. The onsite restaurant was serviced by equally attentive young ladies who were accommodating to special requests; and always helpful and communicative. The menu was broad; the food was satisfactory. Breakfast was variable from a set menu to sometimes a buffet with moderate selection--coffee, eggs, meat, fish, bread salad ingredients occasionally and bread. I learned to ask for a fruit plate since that is my morning meal preference. I felt the pricing was fair yet some reviewers have suggested otherwise.
My room was plenty spacious and was on the second floor at the end of the structure with a balcony view of the beach. It was a lovely balcony view whether day or night. An armoire provided ample storage for clothing, shoes, etc; and there was a separate table for luggage. There was a desk with a drawer. Electrical outlets were sufficient. Air conditioning was fine. A small refrigerator is in the room that you can stock from items from the market a 200 meter walk away. There is no tv or radio in the room--a curse and a blessing; and certainly an opportunity to practice discipline about media-withdrawal. The bedding was too hard for my liking and while two pillows were minimally adequate, I prefer more. The linens were acceptable. I was constantly frustrated by a poor WiFI signal in that room and if a signal booster had been easily available for purchase, I would have made that capital contribution to Marlin's myself simply to have all important, reliable access to my office. Oddly, WiFi on the room balcony was fine so long as the heat or mosquitoes did not become bothersome. WiFi in the public areas and even on the beach were fine too. The bathroom was fine and I had hot water too. Water pressure was not strong but was adequate. The toilet plumbing was very sluggish and needs investigation to save the guest from embarrassment with housekeeping. A plunger in the room would have been the short term fix and should be considered. The towels were great--large and kinda starchy which made for good back-scratching while drying off!

CONCLUSION
There are a few areas of concern that need some management attention and improvement but overall, the quality of my Marlin's Beach Resort experience was quite good. I am motivated by it and the general area of Bantayan Island to return once again.

The resort was nice, the room is very clean and spacious, comfortable beds, nice hanging racks inside and outside. The beach front was nice for just hanging out but not for swimming. During low tide there are alot of stray dogs running around. Best if your swim on the far side across the sand bar. Nice table arrangement on the beach front, I love the huge sunbrella and sitting under the tree by the beach is cool during the hot days.

Breakfast is good but service is poor. My husband ordered over easy eggs and the waitress did not understand so my husband just ordered sunny side up. Then he ordered longanisa. The waitress came back after 20 minutes and said it is not available. He ordered tocino and they informed us after another 20 minutes that it was not available. So my husband ordered garlic rice and egg and instead of having meat he told the waitress to just replace give him toast and jam so he can share it with our daughter. So the garlic rice and eggs came with a jam in a packet. We finished eating and the toast did not arrive. We kept sitting for a few minutes and waited since our daughter did not eat yet. We saw the waitress walking around back and forth from the dining area drinking her coffee, where the bar was and then to the kitchen. Their kitchen is separate building from the dining area. Then we called her and asked for the toast and seemed like she did not have a clue. She was like "toast?". She did not have any idea that we ordered toast in placed of the tocino or longanisa which they did not have. It was very frustrating because we were in a hurry to catch the 7:30 boat to hagnaya. Then she told the lady in the kitchen " that we wanted toast when we are already walking away from our table. It sounds like it was the first time she heard it from us. She never wonder why she brought jam to the table? I guess common sense is not so common. She is new there thats what she told me first day when I order lechon kawali and she said it's a soup. Hello! she is giving me false information. And then I ordered pinakbet and then she asked if I am ordering good for one or two. I asked if the price on the menu is good for 1 or 2 and she didnt know. So she has to run to the kitchen and asked both times for the lechon kawali and pinakbet info. Silly girl. I understand that she is new but when you are hungry and frustrated from a dangerous trip what would you do?

When we first got to our table it was 6 am which is the time their breakfast starts and ends 10 am. The waitress told us the cook has not arrived yet. There was one lady in the kitchen. So we kept waiting for about 15 minutes. Then the lady in the kitchen decided she will cook for us. Then it took too long for us to get our orders due to the reasons I already mentioned above. Plus she gave me hard boiled egg and the shell still has dirt from the poultry farm ( my guess) and it looks like feather stucked on the shell. So I did not eat it.

Those above are nothing and could be resolved by simple training. The worst part of our trip was there was typhoon Mario September 18, 2014. We stayed in Cebu City and no taxi would run to North Bus terminal because of the flood. My husband called Marlins and see it they could cancel the first day because we wont to make it to the resort because there was no ship going to santa fe that day. Marlins wont cancel and told us to just extend our stay. We already have other bookings to other places after we check out Marlins and cant extend. We sincerely asked if they could cancel just the 18th but they only care for money. Then we were forced to get another hotel for that day and we ended up paying for something we were not able to use. The next day the buses and taxis were running but the trips to bantayan were cancelled again. The people at the port said that "tomorrow again" so we ended up hiring a pump boat so we could make it. And it was very dangerous and I ADVISE everyone not to do it. I was thinking I would die on that day. There were 9 of us in the pumpboat including 4 Koreans. We got all wet. We wanted life jackets there were none. Never trust anybody in hagnaya port. After 2 hours at Marlins resort I saw ships coming and leaving. I regret boarding that pump boat. I should have never trusted anybody nor believed anybody. First they told us that the boat was big and would accommodate 40 people and there are life jackets. So we walked farther away from the dock where the passengers buy tickets and wait for the ships. Tricycles will tell you to ride when you can walk for 5 minutes or less. Advantageous idiots! The sea was calm when we board the pump boat so I did not worry but Wanted life jackets just in case. We saw 3 life jackets tied up above the pump boat where the roof supposed to be. It was so hot, no roof. Life jackets so tightly tied up it would be too late by the time you had untied it in case the need comes. I was so horrified. We did not want to missed more days we paid at Marlins so we just took the risk. We booked for 4 nights only used 3 and never get a refund.

Only kudos I could give is for the security guard on duty September 19th for he saved my purse I left in the lobby. I had all my travel documents in it.

Me and my family (wife and two kids, 3 and 6 stayed here for 10 days in the end of february 2012. We din't book anything in advance, so we started to walk along the beach to look for a place to stay. We arrived with a banca from Malapascua at Yoneek. We cheked several places, but for us it was imporant to stay right on the beach, and preferable with a beach bar/restaurant. We ended up with a beachfront aircon room, first floor, and one extra matress on the floor, for my oldest daughter. We had a perfect time here. The place is a bit dated, and could need some maintanance, but that did not have any impact on our stay. Very friendly staff.

The food was very good, but something happend after a week, because suddenly it was not good at all. I checked it out, and the master chef was gone for a one week vacation, so the rest of the time we din't eat there.

The beach is very nice and windy, so it did'nt get to hot. If you prefer it hotter you can just walk down the beac to the left, and as it turns the wind calms down. My small girls played in the water the hole day. If you go far out, there is some nice corals and a lot of small fish as well.

A daytrip to Virgin Island ( A Banca for a day is about 1000 peso + entrence fee 100 pr pax) was also very nice.

The resort and this part of the beach is heading north east, so no sunset, but excellent sunrise:-)

I will defenently stay here If I come back to Bantayan.
