Words cannot describe how happy I am with our stay. Weather is great, food fresh and tasty. Staff is hard working, friendly and make a wonderful experience of hospitality. One hiccup though, avoid romantic dinner, food was worse than in the buffet restaurant. Still, the resort deserves 5 stars.

Arrival/check-in: we booked through Tui and done the online check-in on the website 5 days prior to coming. We managed to book the restaurants on the app before coming - we had 7 visits. Would recommend doing this before you come as we enquired about changing an existing booking and the were full for our last week. Arrival was quick and easy and bell boys take you and luggage on the cart to your room. Rooms- we booked a junior suite with Tui. We got the old style room. They managed to change us on day 3 as the hotel was full. We got a superior room in Villa 3 - amazing location 🤩. The cost was meant to be $10 per person per night but we didn’t have to pay. Got a helpful manager called Fernando who was great! We are a party of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids; 15 & 12. We had 2 doubles and a double sofa. I would book a suite if returning. There was plenty of storage space for clothes and 4 cases. The toilet is weird and quite see-through so we avoided that area if someone was in. I didn’t think the shower was as see through as others have said; this wasn’t an issue for us. If you are short of towels or have any issues with your room. Dial 8585 to concierge and they will sort it your issue. We left 50 pesos in the safe every few days with a note for beer, coke, Fanta and crisps. These were left every day even when we didn’t leave note or tip! Cleaners were in every day. Pool areas - plenty of sun beds, no need to get up early unless you require one with shade as these are very limited at the main pool. The kids pool has lots of shade and lots of beds. We spent time at all the pools, including the Coba one a couple of days which is really good. The quiet pool is lovely, good music and a chilled vibe. There are Bali beds but I think they are hard to get. We managed to get one on an afternoon as someone left - they are amazing! The main pool has a lot going on; water polo every day, aerobics classes etc. the swim up bar is a plus. Restaurants- the main buffet has so much choice; we only ate in there for dinner 3/4 times but the options are amazing. The Mexican section is so good!! They have a grill area, seafood area with prawns, scallops, salmon etc and they will cook it fresh for you. Pasta area were you choose your ingredients and they cook it fresh (I had this twice and it was great - sometimes a wait but worth it). So much choice for breakfast and lunch too. The waiters serve you drinks to your table. For lunch options, there is also the food trick and main pool bbq area. The food truck does get busy at peak times but it’s great, I had the help yourself nachos most days! The bbq at the main pool is great too. Coba pool food area is a lot better in my opinion. It’s a small buffet but at the pool area, with salads, wraps, fresh pizza, burgers etc. Dinners; we ate at Thali (Indian) - very good. We had the sample dish which was tasters of a lot of the options on the menu. It’s a lovely restaurant with great staff. Tequila (Mexican). Although this is a buffet, it’s very good. The theming is amazing, we got to wear the sombreros for photos. Don Pablo - absolutely loved this place, my favourite of them all. We had a large table for 8 as we went with friends. The water, Filiberto was brilliant. We all had the filet steak but he brought extra prawn dishes, fries and rice for the table. There was so much food but excellent quality. We had Mayan coffe afterwards. Le Gourmet- similar to Don Pablo - amazing food, we all had steak there too. Although these are fine dining, don’t be put off if you have kids. There is a kids menu in each restaurant but it’s not that great. We used the opportunity to try new things, such as lobster Thermidor and fois gras. The restaurants are not pretentious at all and we were made to feel welcome. La Gran Tortuga - rodizio restaurant. I was most looking forward to this but this was my least favourite of all 7. The quality of the meat was not the same as the other restaurants and the atmosphere was a bit meh! Others in my party did thoroughly enjoy their food though, so this is just my opinion. Mikado Tepanyaki- this was very good. The ordering was a bit rushed and we had to initially ask a few times for more wine, but the service then picked up. The live cooking is interactive and the food was delicious. Mashua was our last meal last night. It’s Japanese and Peruvian fusion. The menu is a bit out there but we all tried new things; octopus and ceviche. It’s not to everyone’s taste (including mine) but love to try new things. The soup and main dishes were amazing though. You can order steak, prawn and chicken either grilled or in the wok. The restaurant is lovely and we had a fab waiter called Cristian who took a lot of time to explain what each thing in the menu was. I’m glad we tried this as it’s somewhere we wouldn’t visit back home. Sun- it’s very hot!! Bring lots of sun cream and tops for the kids. Remember a hat too! Beach- some days there was a lot of seaweed but the guys are there all day every day clearing it. Bits of Tulum beach are rocky but just walk along a bit towards La Gran Tortuga entrance and it’s more Sandy. The Coba beach is much better, hardly any seaweed or rocks- it’s only about 10 mins along. Excursions - we booked Xel-ha and Xcaret direct and made our own way they’d and back via a taxi. It was quite expensive but still worked out cheaper than adding on the transport option; plus you have the benefit of going and coming back when it suits you rather than a schedule. These parks are amazing. Water shoes are essential. We also done the snorkelling, zip wires and 4x4 quad biking. We booked this through Destino Riviera. I would highly recommend this trip. Note though; the zip wire is 100 feet high ams 1 km long. Totally took me out of my comfort zone but loved it! We also booked our airport transfers with Destino riviera too. We went into play del Carmen 2 nights using taxi and collectivo. The collectivo is great but you do have a bit of a walk to get to 5th Avenue, about 20/25 mins. 5th Avenue had great shops and is very lively at night. We were with the kids so didn’t go into any of the places. We had a meal one night and street food the other; both were great! Staff- the stafff at this hotel are brilliant. We haven’t met a ride or unhelpful person in 2 weeks. They honestly can’t do enough for you; with or without tips. We did tip throughout the holiday, usually 20 or 50 pesos at the bars or for services and 200 for evening meals. This is obviously different for everyone. I hope this has been helpful. I need to get back to pack 4 cases 😩😬😭

I'm hoping this review among some of the others will force this resort to get their stuff together. The room was dated and smelled like mildew, unsanitary experiences in the buffet and food truck areas and the beach closest to the resort is very lacking. The alcohol although name brand was very watered down or they put some other liquor in the name brand bottles. Most of the drinks were not tasty. The room was extremely outdated and smelled like mildew. Towels and sheets were always stained. No room service for food. The one good thing was that they have a decent gym and trolleys to take you around the resort. You only get 2 passes to the restaurants and you have to make reservations extremely early or they are "full". So if you are staying more than 2 nights you will have to eat buffet for dinner the other nights or pay for extra dinner. Ridiculous for all inclusive resort. The day we got there the restaurants were supposedly full but somehow they got us in to two at 9pm. We went to the restaurants and they were empty. Not sure why we were told they were full. Little racoon looking animals like to hang out and jump on the tables in the buffet area.

i met up with family and we stayed for a week it was amazing! the food was good i loved the restaurants i recommend the Italian one. the bartenders were great they had lots of humor especially Oscar he ran the lobby bar. one of the only downsides was that the beach was not as close as we would have liked it but the trolleys were very accommodating and efficient. one other thig was that the rooms were a little dirty and not updated but they were big. the beach did not have very big waves and was rocky under water but it was amazing for snorkeling there were lots of colorful fish and it was free to snorkel. The weather was beautiful while we were there. i definitely recommend going to xcaret or xplore while you are in Mexico too it is soo fun! the last thing I'm going to mention is the shows the shows are amazing all the actors are very talented and the effects and music are great! you need to go to the shows. overall it was a great experience.

Strange to see all the bad reviews. While this resort has some issues it’s really good. Pros: - staff we excellent especially Jacinto, Airam and Jordi in the main buffet - food was good - Mexican restaurant was really good - my wife was given an allergy card that listed her food allergies at the concierge. She could use this to get food that was cooked especially for her in the buffet and other restaurants. - great facilities for families - beautiful sandy beaches - housekeeping - entertainment - night market - treated our grandkids super well Cons: - Animals in the buffet dining area. Scurrying under tables, climbing on tables to get food. Not something we loved but others may find this cool. - drinks were hit and miss. Sometimes good and other times really bad. I didn’t drink the bad ones. - a bit too busy for our liking - trolleys driving on paths all day. - line-ups for lots of things. All in all, it was a great holiday

The GOOD: The resort is clean, smaller and really geared for families with younger kids - great kids club, teen club was ok (we had a 13 and 14 y.o. who enjoyed the games in there) Nice pools, and fun area for young kids with water park. Super fun foam party one afternoon - fun for the whole family. Golf carts take you from Tulum to Coba (neighboring resort) which is nice. There is a Market and Casino on site. The spa was very nice and actually quite reasonable with their 30% off. They did silent disco one night which was a hit for the resort. Other than that, not much to speak of for entertainment. Live mariachi band at the "sports bar" one evening but no other live music on the stage, which was a miss in my opinion. There were shows and evening entertainment but we've seen most of the shows over the years and had no interest. The bad: rooms were outdated (not sure what part of the resort has been updated, sure wasn't ours!) and our kids' room didn't have great a/c or a cold fridge. We all experienced issues with our wrist bands as door keys at one time or another which is a pain as at times it took over an hour to sort out... Very little dining options because reservations for 9 was IMPOSSIBLE so you were limited to buffet food. And when you could get a reservation, they were still BUFFETS AND were usally LATE (we could not eat at the Japanese tepanyaki restaurant until 9 pm!) the UGLY: The FOOD - we have been to Mexico MANY times over the past 17 years and NEVER have we been so disappointed by the food and drink options. We had difficulty getting any reservations at ala carte restaraunts for 9 people (I guess you needed to call weeks in advance or something??) and we have several allergies in our group (Gluten, dairy, soy, corn) and the resort was NOT very accommodating. Honestly, the buffet was the MOST accommodating! By the end of the week we took a taxi to go off resort into Akumal (8 miles away) and ate an amazing Italian place for Thanksgiving!) As an example, My sister is Celiac and I have a pretty severe gluten intolerance - at the Japanese tepanyaki, our food was made in the back... (mind you this was our 9 pm reservation... by the time we get our food, it's almost 10 pm) Mine comes out DOUSED in SOY SAUCE (hello? soy sauce is made with wheat) - I woudl have eaten it at this point, but it was unedible as it was so overcooked and salty. What can you do at that point? There is no room service except a snack bar that opens at 10 pm - 6 am. At that point, I went back to our room and ate a granola bar. I willl NEVER recommend this resort - they were understaffed; they were uncaring (we had a sick kiddo one night and we had to literally argue with the buffet staff to let us take food to her in our room!) The beach further down from the main pool to the north was AMAZING but we didn't discover until our last day (no one at the resort tells you anything, you literally have to explore and figure everything out on your own) We had a blast playing beach volleyball every day, we enjoyed the pool activities, and the silent disco was super fun. We did find a few very good staff members worth mentioning: Esau at the pool bar - worked his ASS off all week ALONE; Paulina in Guest Services helped us with our party of 9 and our dinner reservations; Liberado in the upper pool bar was always there with a smile and a great personality; Fatima and Yacsuri were amazing massage therapists - my dauther and I had a very relaxing experience!

My family’s second stay here. Last year we had modern rooms and enjoyed ourselves so came back this year. Originally they had us in awful outdated rooms so we paid for upgrade to suites! Don’t miss out on the suites, the difference in your experience will be night and day!! Couldn’t believe they still had motel 8 quality rooms on this beautiful resort. Also, restaurants can be really difficult to get reservations for so book them as soon as possible. At first they told my sister none were available, yet when my mother came back to complain, suddenly something was “available.” I don’t like complaining to staff, but unfortunately that’s what it took to even get one reservation around here. Also when we went to the Indian restaurant (amazing btw), there were several open tables??? Outside of that, be aware that this is a very animal friendly hotel. If that’s not your vibe, don’t stay here. For us the animals were a selling point.

Dear Robert, Allow us to thank you for sharing your recent experience with us and choosing our hotel to spend your holiday! Your honest opinion can be a valuable reference for other customers who are thinking to stay with us, so we deeply appreciate the time you took to share it. We would like to extend our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced in the a la carte restaurants. Your concerns will be clearly discussed with the responsible of the F&B department, so they can take the necessary measures to ensure that we maintain and deliver the level of service expected from us. Allow us to inform you that we manage around ten different seating times for dinner from 18:00 hrs to 22:00 hrs, which allow our guest to enjoy the restaurants according to their preferences in times, unfortunately every seating has a limited amount of guests as the restaurants cannot be filled completely in order to provide a very unique experience with personal attention. Some of the restaurants as well may look empty as not all of our guests attend their dinners due to unexpected activities during their holidays; sadly this is something we cannot prevent since we are not informed in most of the cases about their attendance. We once again apologize for the impression you have about this service. Thank you again for offering us the opportunity to learn from this experience through your comments shared. We hope to welcome you back to provide you a better experience. Receive our warmest regards from Mexico, Arnold Domínguez Bahia Principe Grand Tulum.

For the price we paid it was definitely not worth the money. I had read previously that blocks 34/35 were not great so I was so disappointed that they’d put us in block 34. First impressions of the room were that despite overlooking so much greenery it was actually quite light in there. However, our first evening the music was super loud and meant we struggled to sleep until it had finished about 11pm. Also the new configuration of the room meant the light shines through the room all night from the light outside the room. My husband managed to block some out using towels but it wasn’t ideal. We could also hear all our neighbours clearly. Food - not great and the Resturant felt like a canteen and stank of bleach. Staff were so hit and miss but I suspect more attentive if you gave them a few dollars every meal. We did 3 gourmet meals whilst there, mikado at coba which was good, don pablo (finally some decent food )and gran tortuga which was ok. Drinks - the cocktails were so weak in the restaurant barely worth having. White, red and sparkling wines were passable. Cocktails by the pool were much better and actually tasted of alcohol. Shows - we went to the rock, magic and urban shows. All very good and would recommend seeing them if you are there. Housekeeping - excellent…came in every day and towels were plentiful. Gym - victor is fantastic but the gym needs updating and some new equipment in there. Spa - wow! The ladies in there are amazing. We had a hot stone and Mayan massage. Both were fantastic and the highlight of our stay. Very reasonably priced as well. On the whole I wish I’d researched more before booking this hotel. This is the first all inclusive where I actually lost weight!

This was one of the worst resorts I have stayed at. There for 7 days, and everyday got worse. Filthy is a understatement, rude and unprofessional is a high on thier list. From no outlets, to bug, dirt and dried snot on the headboards. Dirty mattresses, gap under the doors, bugs..geckos included at no extra charge. Animal crap all over, smoking and butts are a permanent fixture. Complained, and things got worse..ac stopped..phone weirdly stopped working..noone ever came to.fix or repair.. If needed anything had to walk all the way up to lobby..and hope that they would bring things. Toilet paper was left on a bench outside room, septic was out our door. Recycling buffet food..birds and rodents..including raccoons in the buffet..had to beg for a spoon everyday. Had to pay a environmental fee at check, for what because it was a fifth mess, with no care of cleanliness. I can go on and on. This place should be ashamed of themselves..
