In a region rich in cultural heritage, Serena Khaplu Palace is certainly the finest surviving example of a Royal Residence in Baltistan. It is located on the legendry route to the world’s greatest junction of three mighty glaciers at Concordia. In terms of architectural heritage and cultural expression, it has arguably more treasures than Shigar Fort, possibly as a result of its closeness to both Leh in Ladakh and Srinagar in Kashmir.Serena Khaplu Palace is a unique heritage Boutique Hotel which offers guests the opportunity to experience the restored original architecture of a 19th century Raja Palace, while enjoying the modern amenities and services of a luxury Hotel.

Detailed Reviews
Serena Khaplu Palace is the ideal place to stay, even if it is a bit pricey I would give them a 5 star rating in every aspect from the welcome, to the room cleanliness and comfort, the very warm and helpful staff and the ambiance is amazing, you can sit and peacefully read in many cozy local nooks and they have guides to take you on hikes etc... I will say one person who instantly made me feel safe and comfortable at the Skardu airport when my private guide was unable to reach due to landsliding was the Serene Shuttle service driver Abbas bhai... people like him make or break an experience and he was very helpful and on my way to Khaplu gave me a history and social background of the area and was very helpful. Very glad and will stay with them again for sure!

Room Tip:Â As for the room with the Palace view I think its better than staying in the Palace it self.

We stayed four nights in late October. The weather was turning chilly but the room was very comfortable with fan heaters and had the luxury of a radiator in the bathroom . Excellent service, lovely gardens and very good food especially the local dishes. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay .

Excellent location, amazing staff and unbelievable view of stars in the night. Highly recommend room with terrace to feel the chill breeze in the morning and watch the starry sky late in the night. Recommend to engage a qualified tour guide/driver to save time and get best experience to see the surrounding areas and treks.

It’s such a shame that the Serena brand felt to this level. I have stayed in many serena hotels inclusions Islamabad, Gilgit and Shigar and their service is extremely good and well worth the money spent. In this hotel, ac/heater is broken and the room is extremely small. I called several times to order coffee in the morning but it didn’t arrive. Overall, good location but poor service.

Serena Khaplu Palace Hotel is a very comfortable hotel located in the heart of Khaplu. Particularly the bathroom fittings and accessories are of top quality (unlike Serena Shigar Fort).
The only negative point is that the access to the hotel is through a narrow lane which is usually blocked by stationary cars - so you have to walk to the entrance of the hotel.

I always had reservation about hotels in a restored ancient building. Fortunately, this room was beyond my expectation. The shower had hot water throughout while is toilet was modern. I liked the complimentary dried fruits and nuts platter which was a change from the usual I see in other hotels in other countries in the east. The buffet dinner was a good spread but they do not have buffer dinner every night. Breakfast was also excellent. I will recommend this hotel to any who is visiting this area.

From the clean rooms, to the hospitable and efficient staff and the fresh, organic meals, what can I say. It was sublime and so special. We dined al fresco under apple trees laden with fruit and ate fresh apricots from the garden.

Toured Skardu & Gilgit in May 22 staying in 4 different Serena hotels. All are unique historical properties which have been restored to a very high standard providing all modern amenities as well as internet & television. The staff are locally recruited & very friendly with a high proportion of female employees - all had a good standard of english & urdu. There is an official tour guide who gives an excellent overview of the palace & royal family. He also stressed the importance of education in the local community and gender equality which we saw in practice whilst walking around the hotel and surrounding area. Breakfast options are plentiful and do try the local apricot juice. Overall highly recommended stay.

The white building in most photos is the main part of the fort, most of which has been restored as a historical site. Hotel staff can do an interesting guided tour. There are 2 suites at the top, and I thought the one described as the Queen’s room was better than the Kings.
My room was in the stable block, very luxurious. I noticed the room next door had a private terrace. The stable block has a pretty little garden and there is a much larger garden with low tables and chairs next to the restaurant. One evening we had dinner on a private balcony overlooking the the ‘fort’ which was a nice treat. Food was good, especially the breakfast. I don’t think there are many other options for dining around there. Laundry was efficient. It didn’t have some of the polish of the Serena in Gilgit, but it’s lovely place to stay. Only caveat, flight of steep stairs/steps to the restaurant - not for anyone with mobility problems.
