At Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz Gozo Malta, the service garners appreciation for being friendly and professional, despite occasional slow response times. The cleanliness is a standout feature, with guests noting the immaculate condition of the pools and rooms. Nestled in a serene location, the hotel offers peace and easy access to local attractions. The amenities, including pools, spa, and dining, receive positive remarks, although some guests see room for enhancement. While the rooms are spacious and tidy, there are suggestions for added conveniences like blackout curtains. However, there are mixed feelings regarding value, with some questioning the cost versus the quality of services provided. Overall, the hotel's atmosphere is described as serene and welcoming, contributing to a restful experience.

The external appearance of the hotel is striking, built of the same limestone all buildings on the islands are seemingly made of it seems right at home and emerges from the landscape like an Arabian palace on some desert oasis. A walk around the gardens is recommended.

Inside, those familiar with a Kempinski stay will notice some signature styles and motifs with good signage to rooms and the various parts of the hotel. The brand is also complimented by the wonderful attitude from the staff. Everyone from the reception desk to the pool was bright and helpful with requests or assistance always delivered without reminder. All the team were great.

Our room, a pool view deluxe with balcony, was clean with everything stocked even though we caught an earlier ferry to Gozo, and they couldn't have been nicer about it. We felt at home instantly and found the polished fittings and generous space just adding to the sense of relaxation.

After a stroll around San Lawrenz, we didn't find much else to do nearby, though a trip to Victoria and the citadel by bus or Bolt is recommended if you are staying more than a couple of days. Thankfully, the hotel facilities are numerous and enjoyable enough to pass the time in a tranquil and pleasant way.

The Spa is very good and always appeared staffed and clean. As we travelled out of season, the pool areas were mostly empty, so we enjoyed a lot of time with our books, but still numerous staff were always busy providing drinks and making sure the area was looked after, and everyone was well.

We found no issues with any of the dining options offered. Lots of choice and nice food at breakfast with snacks and hot lunches available throughout the day and indoor or outdoor seating seemingly everywhere. The standout eating experience was the fine dining choice L-Istorja, so do try that at least once. A wide selection of high quality meats and seafood, some really nice pasta dishes and amazing service even down to a great bread tray that was a dish in itself.

Our 3 days in Gozo were very happy ones, and we are both glad we chose the Kempinski to begin an amazing holiday on the Maltese islands. Many thanks to everyone at the Kempinski Hotel, St Lawrenz for their hard work.

The place is more beautiful in real than in the pictures, you can feel the Mediterranean vibe everywhere! Palm trees make it look lush and tropical and breakfast is served on a beautiful terrace over-looking the main pool. Mornings are calm and the staff makes you feel very welcomed and takes the time to ask how you are doing. Service was great, thank you Archie. The Lady in Red, Ada, was very helpful during our two-week stay and gave many tips about restaurants, bars and great places to swim. We stayed at the residence and the apartment had a washer and a dryer, which was useful for longer stays. Room was cleaned swiftly everyday and water was delivered several times a day. My wife tried the Spa center as well and loved her Ayurveda treatments. Inside pools and sauna are also very good. Pool bar made great cocktails and service was great (thank you Emilie). The sushi restaurant Gazebo is lovely and dining outside in candle light, made it seem very exclusive and romantic. Barbecue nights at the main restaurant are also something to try! And finally, the kid's club had very good opening hours and it remained calm but a fun place, where our little one wanted to return everyday. Thank you everyone for making our stay perfect!

The Kempinski came to our rescue during the recent heat wave and power cuts during our stay in Gozo and I cannot recommend the hotel highly enough. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left, our experience was amazing. Every staff member we encountered was not only helpful, polite and efficient - but also kind and thoughtful, they really went the extra mile. The rooms were spotless, large and very comfortable; the pool area was fantastic with plenty of space for the kids to entertain themselves; the breakfast buffet had loads of delicious options and ran til 11am (which allowed the teenagers to sleep in) and the in house restaurants were fab. AND as the hotel has its own generator, we were all kept perfectly cool and comfortable throughout our stay. Thank you so much to the whole team for a thoroughly excellent experience - we will certainly be back!

Overall I would say the hotel is overpriced and dated. The outside approach to the hotel is stunning as is the lobby and the pool area is lovely too but on closer look the hotel needs work.

The hotel looks huge but you soon realise that over half of the ‘hotel’ is private apartments/time shares. We first realised this as we wondered why the windows of so many room were so dirty on the outside. Essentially the hotel is in 1 side of the pool, the restaurants/reception at 1 end and the rest is empty apartments. It makes the place feel quite eerie. Very quiet if that’s your thing!

We upgraded to a suite and the bed was still 2 beds zipped together. They have no actual normal beds apparently. The room was very dark and dingy. The coffee and cakes at the pool were the most expensive we purchased in Malta and served in plastic cups (we stayed in 3 different 5 star hotels in Malta this summer).

There are no ironing boards in the rooms, you need to ask reception for one which took 40 minutes and we missed our taxi.

The staff were generally very friendly but not very helpful. We had a couple of issues and asked to speak to a manager at 9pm but were told there was none. He never tried to contact us when he got to work.

We loved Gozo and would highly recommend a visit but we wouldn’t recommend the Kempinski.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We genuinely value all guest input, as it helps us improve the experience we offer. We are pleased to hear that you appreciated the stunning approach, our lobby, and the pool area. However, it is clear that we did not meet your expectations in several areas, and for that, we sincerely apologize. Regarding the suite and bed configuration, we regret that it did not meet your expectations. Our team would have been happy to address this during your stay had we been made aware. We also apologize for the delay in delivering the ironing board, which caused inconvenience to your plans. As for your comments about the property’s layout, we understand that the structure of our hotel is unique, with both private residences and hotel accommodations. We strive to maintain a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere throughout, and we are sorry that this wasn’t your experience. We take your concerns seriously and will address the issues you have highlighted, including your experience with our staff. It is disappointing to hear that our service fell short, and we will review this with our team to ensure better communication and support for our guests. Thank you again for your feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with the true Kempinski experience.

All style no substance!

We stayed at the Kempinski Hotel Gozo the end of September 2024. Arriving at the hotel, we were surprised at the cold clinical reception we received. No welcome drink, no friendly people explaining about the hotel, nothing!

That first evening we turned up to a relatively empty restaurant where the Maitre D rather snootily asked if we had made a reservation, sighed and showed us to a table. The atmosphere was uncomfortable; the kind of atmosphere where you talk in hushed whispers. Welcome to the holiday!

First full day we decided to relax round the pool and, again, no atmosphere; everyone talking very quietly. For us, the pool is a big part of our holiday - what a shock when we stepped in to a FREEZING pool, and I mean FREEZING! No wonder no one was in the water!

Sadly, on the first day I hurt the tendon in my foot and it became excruciatingly painful to walk. Our room was at the furthest point in the hotel so, knowing the hotel wasn’t busy, we asked to change rooms. No concern for my health or wellbeing - they were more interested in charging us several hundred Euros to move.
As we were on half board basis, we asked if we could pay a service charge and have our meal in our room so I didn’t have to walk. We were told no, we would be charged from the room service menu!

Walking became so painful my husband asked if they had a wheelchair, they had but the rubber had perished and the tyre fell off the wheel. They said they would send maintenance to sort it out, no one turned up!

We were due to stay 10 days and after 5 we asked Jet2 to fly us home. They were fantastic and did everything they could to ensure we got home safe and sound including wheelchair assistance at the airport.

When checking out the hotel, normally you would expect them to be concerned that we were cutting our holiday short, not interested! They asked if we had enjoyed our stay and when we said no, they didn’t ask why! They didn’t look the slightest bit interested, they just presented us with the large bill for the meals we’d had to have in our room!

So to sum up :
* horrendous customer service
* No entertainment
* Awful atmosphere in hotel
* FREEZING cold pool
* Terrible waste of money going there

We have stayed in many wonderful 5 star hotels all over the world and I have to say this has been the worst! I would say it’s a 4 star hotel at best with 2 star customer service.

This is not a luxury hotel. We’ve stayed in a good few and this is not one. It’s an above average resort hotel and not a patch on other hotels in the same chain.

It’s understaffed, especially in the bar and restaurants. If you arrive at the pool later in the day, expect to clean up after earlier guests before you can sit down. The pool closes at 7pm but around 5:45 you’ll get clear signals the staff want to go.

They treat towels like gold bars - you get the minimum in the rooms and need a special key to get one at the pool. I’d have liked a separate shower - the combination bath /shower thing was a pain- turn the wrong switch and you’ll get soaked, and it’s hopeless for less mobile people.

There’s only one lift so take a book to read while you wait.

On the plus side, the reception staff were extremely helpful and pretty much made up for everyone else. There are enormous queues at checkout time so try to stagger your departure.

Overall it was less than we were expecting and definitely not worth the cost.

This was a really nice hotel with a great facility. Even in high season, the hotel is not overcrowded but pleasantly busy. There are no tourists here who throw their towels on the loungers first thing in the morning to reserve them. Everything is just relaxed, thanks also to the extremely friendly and very attentive staff. Thank you for the lovely time.

A special thanks to Director of Rooms Daniele who allowed us to change dates on short notice when my wife was sick. He provided fast and courteous responses and we arrived very late at night to find a room upgrade as well. The service from all aspects at this hotel is extraordinarily professional and friendly. The staff is clearly well selected and trained. Breakfast was lovely sitting outside near the pool with made to order eggs benedicts (among other items) that were always perfect. The staff to guest ratio was great and added to the quality of service. I thought the price paid was reasonable for what is delivered.

This was my first time to Malta and I will choose to stay on Gozo again if I return to have a more luxurious and quiet stay compared to the main island which seemed way too crowded after we stayed in Gozo at the peaceful Kempinski. We stayed four nights, which I thought was the ideal amount of time. Not enough to be bored on more sleepy Gozo but long enough to see the critical parts of the island and still enjoy some relaxing time at the hotel by the pool.

My only comment for improvement at the hotel, and the only reason not to rate it 5 stars, is to add real blackout curtains in the room as an option for guests to use. With a 05:45 sunrise in an east facing room we were awoken way too early each morning without the ability to block the light sufficiently. So ask for a west facing room if you are sensitive to early morning light.

We had an amazing experience at Kempinski Gozo as a winter getaway. The staff’s attentive kindness made us feel welcomed, especially Kate and Idriss were going the extra mile to meet our needs. The rooms and the hotel were tidy and clean and very comfortable, I fully recommend visiting here even during winter as the wellness facilities have a lot to offer, or you can take in the sun on one of the balconies while sipping nicely crafted cocktails.

Tranquil place to stay in Gozo. We had a good experience staying at another Kempinski hotel before. However, this hotel did not meet our expectations.

Pros: Good location, close to Dwejra bay, especially if you want to scuba at the blue hole. Breakfast was pretty good (not included in price) and beds were comfy. We were able to arrange babysitting for an additional price. Dinner at L-Istorka was phenomenal.

Cons: Check-in was disorganized; we arrived around 2:30-2:45pm and the room was not yet ready even though the hotel didn’t look full at all. They said we could change in the spa but it wasn’t easily accessible or convenient. Took a while for the luggage to be brought to the room. There’s no coffee machine in the room or milk/creamer (unacceptable); there’s only a kettle. The decor and layout is weird; it appears outdated but it’s just an unusual style with lots of empty cupboards in the hallways. We had to get through two different sets of elevators to get to the room. There’s only one shuttle to the beach at 11am but none for coming back from there. Also the telephone in the room wasn’t working; so it was difficult to get someone to take our luggage.

Overall, for the price paid, the hotel didn’t meet our expectations and was not worth the money spent.

Dear Mr. Selvaraj, Thank you for sparing your valuable time to share your comments as well as your concerns with us. I am saddened to hear that we did not meet your expectations. First of all, I was glad to read that our location, our buffet breakfast, our fine dining experience and children's service were to your liking. Regarding your arrival, our check-in time starts at 3pm, thus we can not guarantee that a room will be ready before that time if no early check-in request have been made prior. Moreover, we are now fully in the high-occupancy season and my personnel is working to its maximum to provide our valued guests with the utmost standards of service. I would also like to assure you that I took great note of your comments and will review it with the departments concerned in order to track the areas of the hotel in need of improvement. Thank you for staying with us, it was our great pleasure having you. My best regards, Ruth Abellan General Manager

You can definitely go to the Hotel to eat in one of their restaurants, as it is always best to reserve a table beforehand. When it comes to the use of facilities, you better ask the Hotel Concierge as this depends on how busy the Hotel will be, to give space to residents first.
