The Grand Hotel Gozo garners high marks for its exceptional service, with many guests appreciating the attentive and friendly staff, though a few have encountered slower service. Its prime location is a hit among travelers, offering easy access to local attractions and stunning Gozo scenery. Guests rave about the hotel's amenities, such as the spacious rooms with beautiful views and the inviting pools, despite some calls for updates. The overall atmosphere exudes charm, complemented by a tranquil spa and well-appointed rooms that promise a comfortable stay. While most guests find the hotel to offer good value, including the menu and wines, there are occasional concerns regarding unexpected fees and the need for maintenance. Cleanliness stands out as a strong point, with the majority noting immaculate conditions, though some inconsistencies have been noted.

We were made to feel so at home with a warm welcome by the delightful Reception Manager, Nicola, who informed us that our room with a sea view would be upgraded to a more spacious (Superior) room with balcony overlooking the harbour. Very comfortable bed, good-sized bathroom, and a powerful shower. Only negative was the noisy fan extractor. Reception staff were very helpful in providing us with a bus pass, which lasted us all the week, and at €19,00, was incredibly good value for two people. Also excellent advice to take the Gozo HighSpeed catamaran to Valletta. Gozo has a very relaxed feel, with plenty of sights to see - Ggantija Temples (ca.4,000 BC) and Citadella are unmissable.

We ate in the main hotel restaurant every night - Il Migiarro - offering a daily changing set menu of three courses at a very reasonable price. The cooking was Mediterranean in character with an emphasis on Italian dishes, under the supervision of Head Chef, Chatu, who took the time to come to talk with us about his dishes. Pasta and risottos were excellent using the freshest ingredients, such as a risotto infused with fresh prawns and tomato, or one of the best fresh basil pesto dishes I have eaten. Main courses usually featured a freshly caught local fish - red snapper, grouper, and a meat dish - Osso Buco, rack of pork. The accompanying steamed or roasted vegetables of the day were a highlight, varied, prepared with care, perfectly cooked, and generous in portion size. The vegetarian options are very imaginative too - mushroom steak in a spicy sauce. Desserts could be a little more adventurous. The wine list contains a number of very reasonably priced Piemontese and Sicilian wines, and a good quality Rhone red, also available in half bottles. Service was outstanding, a very friendly team of waiting staff under the watchful eye of the amazing Rahul, a Restaurant Manager for whom nothing was too much trouble in ensuring happy customers.

This is the friendliest of hotels, where you will be well looked after.

We stayed 10 nights in the hotel, it was just what we needed a nice relaxing break. We booked a room with a private terrace, two sunbeds, an amazing view, and south facing, which meant we got the sun for most of the day. Depending on how able you are or how much luggage you have, I would recommend a taxi up the hill, the road is steep, and the footpath narrows a lot. I lugged two 20kg cases up the hill so it is doable. The reception staff are very efficient and helpful, the room was amazing, fridge, air con, safe, nice and quiet. Our room was freshened up everyday, mainly by Hariom, probably the most professional staff member I ever saw and we have stayed in hundreds of hotels. He was so attentive and made our stay that bit more magical, a true assett to the hotel. We ate breakfast everyday at the hotel and it was very good, coffee machines, pancake maker, cooked food and cold meats etc. Again, the staff were very efficient and professional, the stand out being Daniella, always smiling and so welcoming and professional, no job too small. We ate in the hotel only once and tried the set menu. The service was slow, but I could not fault the staff they were run off thier feet, their were just not enough of them. We got our soup fairly quickly but sat for nearly an hour waiting on the main course, I was going to leave when the food arrived, I advised the waiter who looked like the restaurant manager that I was about to leave, he said they were busy and "this is not McDonald's sir". We had spoke to several other couples and all only ate once in the hotel due to slowness or portion sizes. My experience was the food was good but portions very small. We ate in many great places, Ta Philip is up the steps beside the hotel and the food was amazing the host could not do enough for us. Ferdies is right beside the hotel and the food and service brilliant. The Country Terrace was amazing, we ate there 3 nights and the views were amazing, the host Joseph amazing and the food superb. Bella sicilia at the harbour was very good. By far the best place we found was Giuseppe cafe and bistro, we visited most days just brilliant.

The hotel is beautiful and old world. It is like something from an Agatha Christie novel. It sits looking over Mgarr bay with the hustle and bustle of the port in a beautiful location full of restaurants and marina walks. It's impressive entrance is let down by lack of concierge staff or a welcome from the reception staff who are hidden behind a high desk when they are sitting. Check in, however is fast and professional but could be friendlier. The room was large with a balcony, fridge, TV (with very poor sound) and a very comfortable bed with crisp white linen. The bathroom was dated as other reviewers have mentioned, however, it had a huge sink and taps and fit in with the old style of the hotel, so I liked it. There were plenty of soaps, shampoo, separate conditioner, sewing kit, vanity kit; etc. The soap bar was a lovely quality and a nice old fashioned touch. There is a hair dryer in the bathroom. The upstairs bar and restaurant on the 9th floor has a Michelin starred chef. The bar is beautiful and the drinks service is an experience in itself. We were given lovely little tapas with our drinks- and the experience on that floor was exceptional. We did not eat in the restaurant as it was beyond our budget but had a brief chat with the award winning chef. The restaurant downstairs served a nice breakfast. Even though it was buffet, it felt more refined. The same room is used for lunch which is good value but mostly burgers, sandwiches and pasta. The pool area is simply stunning with views of the blue lagoon and marina. Drinks and snacks can be served here from the restaurant. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 (I was tempted to give 3) is the melancholy that seems to come from the staff in the downstairs bar, downstairs restaurant and reception. They all seem jaded or somewhat nervous. They are polite but not friendly. In my experience this comes from being overworked (which did not seem to be the case), underpaid, untrained or bullied by management. Service was poor on two occasions here where drinks were forgotten or staff seemed irritated by us wanting to order. I can't put my finger quite on it, but there is something amiss here with the staff in the downstairs restaurant and reception. On the other hand, the beaming, pleasant, hardworking cleaning staff are to be commended. Thanks to Hariom, who others have rightly mentioned for his daily refresh of our rooms. Cleanest rooms ever.

Room was tired, we reported something floating in the lavatory on the morning of the second day, and no action was taken by the hotel whatsoever, we were unable to use the facility throughout our stay, even after reporting it again we were not offered an alternative room!
Towel rails fall off the walls, also we requested a breakfast box due to leaving the hotel in the early hours and this was not provided.
We spent a lot of money for 4 nights in a Grand Hotel and would have been better in a cheaper establishment!!

We arrived late Saturday afternoon and was very grateful to find the room exactly as described, a view over the harbour and balcony on which we could relax and enjoy the warm sunshine. The bed was very comfortable and a welcome relief after cars, planes and boats! The bathroom was very modern and the shower powerful.

Being out for the next two days we didn't really notice the building work (although we had noticed the pile driver as it was very tall) noise until the Tuesday when we had planned a chill day on the balcony. It was very noisy and dusty so we opted for a boat trip to Comino instead.

On the way past Reception we asked if there was somewhere quiet we could go when we came back. The Receptionist was exceptionally helpful and said she would look into moving us to another room. By the time we came back there was another room ready and waiting!

Breakfast is a buffet type affair and had an awesome selection, both continental and hot. As a tea drinker it was lovely to have a pot of tea with my breakfast too. The bar food menu is extensive and the food delicious! As are the cocktails. Compared to the restaurants around, the hotel menu offered good value for money and a daily special menu priced at 28 euros for a 3 course meal. We didn't find or use the restaurants on either 8th or 9th floor or the rooftop bar.

I utilised the Spa facilities having a sauna, jacuzzi and hot stone massage - very enjoyable it all was too! The outdoor pool wasn't open but I was very lucky to find the pool empty on both days that I have an hour swim, although later in the season I can imagine both pools would be busy.

Given the size of the hotel and the labyrinth of passageways, lifts and steps it seems a bit daunting at first but we managed to find our way around, naming the Gold lift the Willy Wonka lift! We found the fitness room quite small with a handful of equipment (there was a funny smell about it but it might just have been a off day when we went) and the games room had a football and pool table.

The whole place was very clean and free from the dust which covered almost everything outside.

From Reception you can book an open top sight seeing bus, which then stops right outside to pick you up! The cheapest way to see the island though is to use the local buses 28 euros for 7 days unlimited travel! From the harbour you can haggle with the boat trip providers for island hopping and sightseeing. There are 2 types of ferry the Fast Ferry - directly into Valetta which is sketchy and dependent on the weather and the very regular as clockwork. Both are very cheap!

This was our first time to Gozo and will not be the last, we will definitely stay again at The Grand Hotel. I cannot rate the Reception desk and bar staff enough. So professional, efficient, welcoming and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. Housekeeping staff keep the whole place clean and are so discreet! Thank for a most enjoyable visit.

Our stay at the grand hotel was amazing, service was great. The team at the reception were welcoming and very kind and helpful. The therapist Kristyna and David at the Elemis spa showed proffesionality in the services provided, there skilled hands gave us a massage that was very relaxing and hit all the right spots to help center and balance our mind and body!. The house keeper Ramesh who cleaned our room was very kind and creative by surprising us with a creative swan towel sculpture with a heart made out of petals. We highly recommend a stay at the hotel. Let me start by saying that I don't often write reviews but in this case, I feel that I need to write this if only to warn others off going here until they can sort things out (or get investment to do so properly).

We just returned from 6 nights in Gozo at the Grand Hotel, and the hotel was not up to scratch (especially considering that it's supposed to be a 4-star hotel).

Let's start with the positives - the view to the harbour is great, the beds are comfortable, and the rooms are large - and if all you want is a place to sleep then it's fine.

The hotel is going through a large renovation project but they are doing it bit by bit rather than closing the hotel for a year and getting everything re-done (which is understandable but not ideal).

We arrived at the hotel around 5 pm (after a 4-hour flight delay) and were shown to our room. This was in the old part of the hotel and was very grubby and old-fashioned. The bathroom in the old part of the hotel was large yet extremely dated so the next morning (after sleeping on sweaty stale sheets) we requested to move to another room.

We waited a couple of hours whilst they prepared our new room and at first found it to be much better. But then the problems started to mount up. These guys can't even get the basics right. The water temperature was lukewarm at best, the fixtures and fittings were worn or in one case fell off, the fridge was too small, the coffee undrinkable, and the breakfast was poor.

The hotel is badly designed, and overall feels like an inconsistent experience - we even had to take 2 different lifts to get to our room.

Other things we didn't like include:

Noisy at night (it's next to a road and overlooks the main road)
The phone didn't work (couldn't call the hotel but they could call us)
No room service
Didn't clear up or give us new towels
Bathroom fittings, design, quality, toiletries - all bad or substandard
No Nespresso or proper coffee maker in the room
The entrance to the outdoor pool was next to stinking toilets
The staff were friendly enough but not overly helpful

So would I recommend it? No.
Would we go again? No.
Was it expensive for what it is? Yes.
Is it a 4-star hotel? No.

Since we liked it so much last year, we came back straight away. We love the island of Gozo and the special charm of the hotel. The friendliness and service of all the staff (restaurant, room cleaning...) is outstanding. The view from the balcony of the suite is magnificent and the suite is simply a dream. There is also enough coffee/tea/water replenished every day.
The breakfast is very tasty, only the jam could perhaps be a little better (perhaps fresh from a jar instead of packaged in small plastic bowls).
The outdoor pool is beautiful, especially the view. Unfortunately, this time it was sometimes annoying that construction was going on downstairs again and a ceiling was being torn down with a jackhammer at that very time. This sometimes affected our relaxation by the pool. However, we would like to point out that the management personally apologized to us and offered us 2 free dinners in the house. That was extremely friendly and the dinner was top notch!!!! Thanks again for that.
The indoor pool is also nice and warm, but could be better (brighter) lit. Above all, you shouldn't turn the lights off completely about half an hour before the pool closes, so that you're standing in total darkness down there.

All in all, we love the hotel, the location, the view, the staff and the lovely red and white "house cat", who we're already looking forward to seeing again.

To start off the hotel is in dire need for refurbishment because its falling apart. Dirty corridors with smell of chlorine from the indoor pool. The corridor carpets smell, are all stained and dirty and some of them are even ripped, bathroom curtains stained, shower holder doesnt work or hold position , the doublebed is two single mattresses put next to each other. When we asked the night reception/manager about adjusting the a/c, he told us it is fixed for the whole hotel you can't adjust, he just said open your balcony window, which doesnt even have a net (just a simple glass door) . Cheap furniture everything cracking and tv doesnt work properly . The breakfast is cheap just 4 hot items and some cold items , no variety. Coffee machines dont work well and the coffee in general isn't good . As for the hotel facilities the parking below the hotel is a total disaster . Everything falling apart, dirty and the walls arent even painted and very low light . The parking is like a place from a horror show. The ramp going into the parking is a total nightmare, the car ends up balancing only on 3 wheels as it is very awkwardly made. The lifts of the hotel are spread all around so you gotta walk back and forth to get to reception and parking . For example from level 1 of the parking there is no lift and from level 2 of the parking there is a lift which takes you to level 3 of the hotel. Then you need to find another and only lift which is capable of taking you to reception .Overall bad experience and don't recomend this hotel at all. Avoid at all costs, it is a 4 star hotel but 3 stars would be very generous. We also upgraded the room to a sea view room but ended up being behind the oht door pool.

Average rating given due to some good amenities however accompanied by some other badly needed improvements.

Hotel is apparently going through gradual upgrading - noticing that the 8th floor was modernised with freshly decorated rooms and new carpeting while rest of floors have old carpeting and furniture. There is construction going on adjacent to the hotel (don't know if it's part of the hotel) and on occasions clouds of dust appear in the outside pool area! Also pool area is in need of better maintenance as some decorations are coming apart and what appears to have been fountains do not work properly.

Our room, which overlooked both pool area and seaport, was very spacious with 2 balconies and very comfortable -and yet very good priced - which was a big plus. Yet, the furniture and bathroom (especially the toiletries) need upgrading. AC is also very noisy.

Breakfast also needs to be improved. Throughout our stay, it was always the same, with few options. The most off-putting situation was the number of flies in the dining area. We do understand that the hot summer months may prove challenging where insects are concerned - but having one of the waiters tasked with going round the buffet killing flies with an electric fly catcher (the racket type) was both funny and worrying at the same time and we felt sorry for the guy! Staff on the whole are very helpful and friendly.

Garage entrance is a bit tricky and dangerous to manoeuvre with no mirrors or lights to warn of oncoming traffic. At a point we suddenly encountered an opposing vehicle in a very tight spot that made it difficult to manoeuvre. Luckily we both are good drivers and handled the situation in a jolly way 🙂.
Also the bad sewage stench and neglect in garage area should be addressed.
