Detailed Reviews
Arrived at Malta airport at 11am, taxi to the hotel cost €20 paid direct to taxi stand at airport so no worries over fare. Dropped at the door and welcomed by staff. I was far too early to check in but made the most of the roof terrace to relax after early start to catch flight . Unfortunately the pool was closed for maintenance but due to being so early in the year I wasn’t expecting it to be open so it was lovely and quiet . Once able to check in (2pm) I was pleasantly surprised by the room. Twin beds as was traveling with a friend who was unable to make it last minute. private balcony over looking the street, clean and neat and more than I’d expected given the cost of booking. Lots of storage space, modern furniture, spacious wet room/bathroom even a mini fridge , no tea and coffee making facilities though. I’d paid £70 for two nights plus flights so wasn’t expecting much to be honest but it exceeded expectations. The area is about a 1min walk from a rocky but nice beach cove and has sea views from the roof and some rooms, with a further 5 min walk to the heart of the harbour side town which is beautiful, the area the hotel is located in has quite a few bars , small food shops and a few good restaurants as well as other hotels and apartments. St Julian is wonderful with a good mix of all tastes and needs catered for With widely spoken English and lots of familiar brands and signage in English. A short bus ride (20/30 mins) takes you to Valletta which is stunning. Bus to and from the airport is the TD2 line and take roughly 30 mins which I used for the return trip to the airport. I didn’t eat at the hotel as was out and about a lot but the restaurant and bar were clean , well decorated and the staff on reception were fantastic, friendly and helpful. Really made a difference As a lone traveler. The only downside was it was a little noisy, a bar next door and lots of “party bars” nearby meant a few voices at night but again it was out of season so wasn’t too bad. There was construction going on across the street too which is absolutely no fault of the hotel itself but was loud in the mornings. Ear plugs sorted that. The town itself is easy to walk round, beautiful and full of friendly locals. Would definitely return and recommend. Once again the staff were lovely and really made the difference.

Stayed with girlfriend 4 nights, we spent 30 euro a night via booking.com, the decent breakfast buffet was worth alone 10 euro. On top of that it had an indoor swimming pool, gym and sauna which get busy in the evening but you can't have everything. It was a great price for the centre of Saint Julian which seemed like the heart of nightlife in Malta. Free parking wasn't that hard to find in February, also the reception staff and the manager were very friendly.

We stayed at the Alexandra Hotel for four nights. Considering the low roomrate the hotel was a more then welcome place to spend a couple nights. On arrival they upgraded us from a standard room to a family room (141) with a kitchenette. The room was spacious with everything you need for a short stay. The only two downpoints were the slightly older bathroom and the constantly separating beds. The free wifi signal was ok but noticeable slower on peak moments, but still very comfortable to use. During our stay we used the indoor heated pool and enjoyed the breakfast menu. At our first day of our stay the large breakfast room was crowded but had plenty of empty spaces left. A large selection of hot and cold breakfast items were available. The frontdesk and breakfast room staff was friendly and helpfully. Around the hotel, there are plenty of restaurant options and public transportation is nearby. There’s a nearby supermarket located right behind the hotel. Tip: Walk along the coastline towards Sliema and see some beautiful sightings on your way.

We arrived to find our rooms dirty and inadequate. The air-conditioning did not work in both rooms. My parent's room had not been cleaned and the fridge contained half eaten melon and opened beer.
Having been given new rooms, I found my new room was also dirty and I requested further cleaning especially the bathroom. My elderly parent's new room was next to a group of young lads who kept them awake all night and so they asked to be moved for a second time to a lower floor that was thought to be quieter. I had already requested a lower floor at the point of booking but this did not happen.
The hotel was very noisy for the whole 2 weeks with large groups of teenagers slamming doors, coming home early hours of the morning, shouting, laughing, playing loud music keeping us awake. If we had been aware this was a 18-30's style of hotel we would not have booked it. We could not enjoy all the facilities of the hotel due to large groups of teenagers taking over the pool often playing loud music, drinking and smoking in the pool and no-one from the hotel monitoring the situation. It was very unpleasant to say the least.
The Covid measures were not enforced. Signs saying one person or a family unit per lift were not adhered to by hotel residents or staff. The lift was never cleaned the whole time during our stay and was quite frankly in a disgusting state especially on the top floor / entrance to the pool area. The Bar and Restaurant (for Dinner) were closed for the whole of our stay.

Thank you first for your recent stay with us at Alexandra Hotel and for taking a moment to share some of your impressions with all the other travellers. We are truly sorry that your recent experience has not been enjoyable and that our team members did not manage to make you have a memorable stay. Kindly note that market prices affect what type of age group comes and being in the centre of night life town, younger guests are always the majority and they don't mind music, parties and entertainment around them. Required COVID measures have been taken and put in place as otherwise we would not be able to open and signs have been placed accordingly however we have no control on people’s behaviour if they decide to ignore them and where we see we bring it to their attention as should anyone else out of its civic duty. The hotel is being cleaned daily for 12 hours and certain areas as you mentioned due to the volume of people passing each day may not be same as others where they are not so frequently used. Lunch and dinner are served each day by the allocated Pool bar dining area and available from 12.30 hrs until 21.30 hrs each day in summer and our Bar and Restaurant on the ground floor open in shoulder months same hours so there is where one can eat at the premises all year round, as the same signs indicated in the public areas and Guests handbooks in the rooms. Again we are sorry and still don’t see how it has happen that on your arrival you had to change your rooms due to some items left from the previous guests but as you wrote we promptly took action and solve the matter. Nevertheless we do hope you will consider about visiting us again in order for us to make it right for you for the next stay. Until then, we wish you and your beloved long life and prosperity.

The hotel is not worth its price. Our disappointment #1 is a balcony. Absolutely tiny, from which you can see just the wall of the neighboring building and balconies of other rooms. Moreover, every morning, we had to smell everything from the hotel kitchen downstairs, so the balcony doors have to be kept closed if you don't want to smell like fried oil for the whole day. Next, almost all the equipment is very old. I mean AC that brought dust streams from its dirty filters, shower, and the shaking toilet. A plastic bottle from shower gel/shampoo was literally yellow, not transparent. Probably, it wasn't replaced for years. In addition, one of white pillows had a yellow spot . Dont even want to imagine what happened before. And the last: soundproofing is weak, some walls are made of gypsum. We heard our neighbors when they spoke or opened/closed doors.
To be fair, there were some pros: location is amazing, breakfast is pretty good, and Wi-Fi ok.
To sum up, a room at this hotel should cost no more than 25 euros per night (we paid almost 60). Or guys, you need a serious renovation to save the same prices.
Absolutely dont recommend

Dear Guest We regret to hear that the hotel did not reach your expectations. Kindly note that if you really thought of informing us on site we would have been pleased to have honored your issues by means of offering an alternative room.. Our aim is to provide good service in fact the prices vary according to the type of accommodation you book. We can say with confidence that we get loads and loads of repeaters back in our hotel which means that it is a bit strange to hear such comments that you send in this review. Why did you not express your dissatisfaction on site? Our professional front office staff would have been glad to have assisted you and solve your issues while being in the hotel and not know when you are back home. The hotel did nothing to excel at its poor performance. Breakfast was at best cold, served by staff with total disinterest in what you asked for 1 slice of toast could mean you got 2 or 3 and then you had to wait again to ask for your next item. In 16 days there was 1 day when they had a guest who I assume was to do with the hotel, it was the 1 day food was hot and served politely and professionally. One member of staff who deserves to be singled out for hard work and politeness is the gentleman who cleared away the dishes everyday he worked harder than anyone else in the restaurant, one who deserves to achieve the worst customer service award is the person who wears a bandana and never has his mask covering his face he at best threw your breakfast on to the plate and at worst got it actually all over the person he was serving. The list could go one we could talk about holy sheets and towels that came back from the laundry dirtier than they had been after use. I won’t go on any more about the reception staff who never dealt with the abusive guests screaming, singing and shouting drunkly until 5 in the morning so no one got any sleep. Or the fact the Cc camera in the pools both I side and out don’t work as group of lads in both pools dived in and behaved worst than the children of 3 to 10 ever could I will end by saying I won’t be back, as I can’t afford the time to review again

We’ve had an amazing time at the Alexandra hotel in Malta , the hotel is central and offers various rooms at different prices to suit all , we upgraded to a sea view deluxe room on the 4th floor and I’d recommend you do the same .
The free breakfast has a lot to offer , cereals , cakes, hot food , salads , a full range of drinks. We enjoyed the food 😊.
The hotel offers a heated swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna in the basement and we used these everyday , also there is a roof top pool with an amazing view which is great for pictures !!
The staff are the friendliest I’ve probably come across in any hotel I’ve stayed in , the rooms are kept clean and tidy and nothing was ever too much of an ask .
Overall an a amazing stay for our first trip to Malta 🇲🇹.

I must say that I was undecided whether to give 3 or 4 stars...
The positive aspects are:
1) Kindness and courtesy of the staff (for example, after check out it was possible to stay in the pool)
2) 2 swimming pools; including one discovered on the seventh floor and one covered
3) Sauna and gym
4) Large rooms (even the shower is very large)
5) Varied breakfast, with a not bad selection of desserts
Among the negative aspects, there are:
1) The savory breakfast has a quality of 4-5 (out of 10)
2) Being close to various places where people drink, the noise from the street reaches the rooms (depending on the type of holiday you want to have, it may or may not be a problem)
3) And now we come to the real sore point: inside the hotel, in the morning, there is a person with whom it is possible to obtain information and purchase various pre-sales, etc.
I have never had so many rip-offs in a row in my life!
I will therefore expose my misadventures:
a) The lady offers us a party in an attic: entry + cocktail is €20... Once we arrive at the party, however, we discover that the cocktail is not included! Anyone, considering that 1 cocktail costs €6-7, can understand that this is no small mistake!
The next morning, when we point out the mix-up to this person, he dismisses us with: ahh, maybe they removed it.
b) The lady offers us a visit to the Blue Lagoon by boat for €25 per person; the boat should have remained anchored in the bay all the time (to be able to go to the bathroom, etc.) and it should have had a shower...
Needless to say, the boat had neither a shower nor remained in the lagoon: it went back and forth to pick up other tourists, so as to have more shifts and earnings.
At this point the ferry would have been better: it cost less (€14) and we could have stayed longer on the island!!!
Also in this case the lady showed us her non-professionalism by telling me that I was the first to tell her something similar (I had also asked other people who had gone there the day before if they had had a shower, and they told me to no), that she would find out and let me know the next day. Needless to say, when I went to her the next day, she hadn't informed herself and dismissed me by telling me to write a complaint to the company that carried out the trip.

Would not recommend this hotel at all!! First I arrive and they give me a key to a room that looks like it's still in use. I asked the cleaners when the room will be cleaned and they say they don't know because they don't know who's been assigned that room. I go to reception and they promptly give me a key to an alternative room. Later that evening I realise the lock on the door is no longer working and there is some damage to it. A fellow guest told me they saw someone trying to get in. So again I go down to reception, I let them know and one of the staff starts physically shouting at me and telling me it's not his problem and I don't even need a lock on the door. I explain that I am a young woman on my own and the lock helps me to feel safe but he continues shouting and intimidating me, even getting up to my face at one point. I have sought alternative accommodation and have requested a full refund from booking.com. As a solo traveller I would not recommend this hotel at all, it is not a safe environment.

1. Dirty room, dirty bathroom. Found hair in the sink and on the floor as well as blood stain on a bath mat and dirty finger prints on the toilet tissue roll. Heating wasn't working from the day one. Took them two days to move us to another room, which was also in need of deep cleaning and had broken hairdryer.
2. Bunch of old ladies playing Bingo in the restaurant during breakfast. Incredibly loudly, might I add. I obviously complained to the member of staff, just so the next day the chef (bold guy, rude and not so good at his job) together with other men could stand just a few feet away from my table commenting on how I dared not to enjoy the company of 50 year old ladies, especially one shouting numbers into microphone just minutes after waking up.
3. Not so important, but the water in jacuzzi was actually cold, much colder than water in a pool.
My advice ? If you really have no choice but to stay in this "hotel", then -if anything is broken - go straight to the reception and ask to be moved. Otherwise you will only be lied to and promised a maintenance and repair that will never take place.
