The InterContinental Malta garners praise for its cleanliness and central location, ideal for exploring Malta, as noted by many guests. However, some have pointed out noise issues from nightlife and construction. While the rooms offer generous space and views, there are calls for updates and better noise insulation. The service generally impresses with its attentiveness, particularly in the Club Lounge, though it's not without occasional lapses. Amenities, especially the lounge, are well-regarded, but some facilities fall short, and extra charges for premium features have received mixed reactions regarding the overall value.

Booked the hotel for a week as part of our trip to follow England play Malta at football. Chose the location as it was near the lively part of St Julien's. AS an IHG member I was instantly thanked upon arrival for and the check in process was very quick. We had upgraded to include the use of The Opal Suite and what an excellent choice this was. All of the staff working there are so friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. A big thank you to Anjali who is a superstar and looked after us so well. The food choice for breakfast was excellent and it was nice to be able to pop back during the day/evening for a drink and some nibbles. This meant we could eat out later.
During our stay my son had an accident in the room with him falling and cutting his head open. I managed to get him down to reception and the staff on duty were so good in dealing with him despite it being very busy at 2.00am. They have their own taxi and they instructed him to take us to hospital immediately. The taxi driver Paul was brilliant and suggested taking us to a local clinic as he said we might have to wait hours at the hospital. He dropped us off and stayed until we came out about 45 minutes later with my son all stitched up. I was very worried during this time but the staff we engaged with were all very kind. The hotel telephone the room a day later to see if my son was okay and said that if we needed to go anywhere then they would arrange to take us.
We spent a number of days around the pool. It was busy as there was a World sporting event taking place in the hotel but we always found a sunbed. The quality of food was outstanding and plentiful.
The only small issue is the fact there are major building works taking place across the road which meant five large cranes in you eyeline and lots of noise. The hotel was playing music by the pool to counteract this but nothing more they could do about it.
The hotel itself is very well maintained inside and kept spotless. The standard of cleaning in our room was high and the room itself spacious and comfortable. The outside will need improving very soon as the sea air is causing some elements of corrosion but nothing to put anyone off.
The checkout process very very simple and thanks to Zulfa for being efficient and informing us we could continue to use the facilities despite that fact we had a late flight.
Would definitely book again when I next return to Malta.

The hotel is around 20 minutes from the airport and our taxi was kindly arranged in advance by the airport.

We stayed here for a week in a Panoramic suite. The room was amazing with a huge balcony, large living room, dining area, separate bedroom and a large bathroom.
The suite was to a very high standard with electric curtains, Bang and Olufson TV’s etc.

You get access to the lounge with the suite and wow what an experience. The lounge is open from 6am to 8pm and the staff cannot do enough for you. Breakfast, afternoon tea evening drinks & canopies are served. Afternoon tea was amazing with a large selection of cakes that are made in the restaurant. Evening drinks are amazing with everything available from cocktails to Moët champagne all of which are complementary!

The hotel also comes with a private beach area which is about 150 metres from the hotel. Again this is a nice area to chill.

On the roof of the hotel is the Skybeach pool, this again is only available to lounge access residents or people who pay to enter (which o think is around €50 per day). This is a nice area but my only issue for the whole stay is that they lease the Skybeach out on a Sunday and hotel guests are put in a small corner on the roof away from the pool. I think this should be addressed.

Overall a great stay, the staff cannot do enough for you and it is certainly a 5* stay.

Stayed here for a week with one young child. Check in was friendly, although I had been told I had been upgraded via my IHG account and reception could not see this on their system. It was resolved quickly and we went to the ‘club’ room. The room was quite a standard room with muted colours, it’s only a club room as it is on a higher floor. It was spacious enough for three of us, the bathroom was a very good size. Beware the balcony though, it’s an old building and these balconies are not suitable for small children as they can be climbed. Also if you get an upgrade to a club room you cannot access any club facilities which is worth noting.
Breakfast was very good with a variety of options and a hot station for eggs etc. Staff at breakfast were always lovely.
The pool was lovely and warm, it’s on the 10th floor so it’s not huge but my son had lots of fun. There is a shallow end for little ones and a good drink/food service. Children cannot access the Sky Beach and adults have to pay 50 euros per day.
The ‘private beach’ is down the road from the hotel, it’s very small and sun loungers get booked very quickly but we enjoyed spending time there.
The kids club - this felt like more of a day nursery. There is an extra charge and it’s very small. My son spent one hour there and when I checked on him he said he wasn’t having fun so we didn’t use it again. He’s at the age (nearly 5) where he has loved some of the kids clubs we have visited but not this one. Gym is very spacious but it is a separate entity and open to non guests. Worth noting the main stag and hen strip is next to the hotel, this didn’t bother us but some of the other 5 star hotels have a better location.
All in all a very nice stay, the staff make this hotel 5 star more than the facilities.

We only went bed and breakfast, Hotel was excellent, the staff were so friendly and accommodating, the hotel amenities are very good, the pool area on level 10 is immaculate and well maintained.
Breakfast is no longer self service (due to COVID) so everything is “dished out” to you, and there is plenty of choice.
There is a private beach (sun beds and brollies are free) and you can get your towels there also, again the beach area is well maintained with its own bar and food as the hotel pool area.
St Julians is an expensive place and 2 drinks (spirits with mixer) are around €14.00 on average.
The hotel has a €1.00 environmental charge for each order of drinks so be aware.
There is extensive building works in St Julians, it is something you get used to, within a square mile I counted 9 tower cranes and 4 of these are at all points of the compass visible from the pool area, like I said you do get used to it quite quickly and watching these guys working is a “spectator sport”
Rooms are cleaned every day so great service on that count.
We bussed into Valletta for a day, 5 minute walk to bus stop €2.5 pp into Valletta.
At reception they do take a deposit off you on checking in €250.00 which is refundable if you do not spend in the hotel, my wife and I ate out quite a bit and had the odd drink in the hotel we ended up spending half of the deposit so not to bad.
On average meals are around €60.00 a couple for starter and main with a couple of drinks.
We took trip to Birgu as we did a self drive “electric golf buggy” ride through the 3 cities, it is all sat nav so really easy to do and takes about 2.5 hours great and safe way to see some of the island at a pace you want, company is called “Rolling Geeks” and runs out of Birgu about €37.00 each.
Take the bus to Valletta, get onto the Barracca lift €1.00 pp to the water taxi , jump on that €2.00 pp and it is a 5 minute walk to “Rolling Geeks”
I would recommend two places in St Julians “Crust” restaurant, great food, drinks really reasonable and the staff were brilliant.
A small bar called “Cool Runnings” only been open 3 months, ran by George, proper character and well worth a few beers there.

A long weekend in Malta and chose this hotel because of location and what seemed like a great price.

It was the right choice. From the moment we arrived to the time that we left, nothing was too much trouble. We arrived at the reception desk and was told that because we had booked a club room, we could check in at the lounge on the 15th floor. One of the staff escorted is to the lounge and we checked in.

Each time we visited the lounge the service was outstanding from all of the staff that we encountered. I really couldn't fault it.

In fact, every member of staff that we encountered was fantastic and so friendly. The room was well appointed and we'll maintained. Would happily recommend to anyone and the relatively small additional cost for a club room was excellent value over you factored in breakfast, afternoon tea and evening canapes and drinks.

Thanks to all the team!

The Hotel is located in the middle of the club and party scene. So if you are looking for Nightlife, this is a good spot. There is also a big cinema next door.
At the front and the backside of the Hotel is a very high frequented street. And the maltese love the horns of their cars...
Be careful: On the backside are construction works for a big building ongoing. If you have the room facing there, the night is over latest at 7 in the morning. Or you have to plug your ears.
The Hotel makes an understaffed impression. My room was uncleaned for two full days. I did not complain because I wanted to test it. I put out the sign for room cleaning at day three. They managed to, hm, attend the room. They made the bed, took away the floormat and did not bring a new the following days. They did not replenish the water and coffee, but hey, they were there. And they are shouting to each other so loud, you can hear it clearly through the closed door.
It took 20 (TWENTY!!!) minutes waiting time to check out at the reception, because there was only one poor lady doing the job. On a workday at 8 in the morning. And the line was getting longer...
The room was ok. But everything is not kept in good shape, things are falling apart here and there. Best is, they glued a new non textile floor onto the old floor, but not around the bed. Creates a nice trip hazard.
So, long story short: So far good Hotel that does not meet its own expectations at all. If you want Nightlife around: Good to go. If you want it a bit quieter with better personell, take the Westlife.

so we were meant to go to malta for 11 nights but sadly covid stopped us from staying so our holiday was cut short. overall, the hotel was good. only the staff had to wear masks but for the guests it was optional but advised to wear masks in the lifts. we were in a deluxe renovated suite and overall the cleaning services were good. our room was cleaned every 5 days but the beds were made and new towels were placed every day. housekeeping was wonderful. i don’t know about the other rooms which weren’t renovated but our experience with housekeeping was 10/10. we had access to the skybeach and club lounge and the services were fast and the staff was magnificent and really friendly. however, services to the beach and the pool were not as good. it would take around 30 minutes for one drink whereas at the skybeach it would take 5-10 minutes. the food at the skybeach would arrive at no more than 20 minutes but if you ordered food to the beach it would take 30-45 minutes. that is honestly my only complain, but the staff was still wonderful and understanding. and finally, the food. it was magnificent. i loved it and so did everyone else, especially the calamari and seafood. so if your looking for a city break or a small getaway, this is the hotel to go to. we had a wonderful time. thank you very much for our stay!

The hotel is little bit outdated, yet very well equipped and kept clean at all times. We felt safe during the covid times with all those pandemic measures in place. The food and drinks are excellent and high quality, however the service sometimes did not meet 5 star hotel expectations for the given price. The staff was trying hard and doing its best even during these challenging times, however we felt the management sometimes failed to do its job. One employee told us, we cannot get a toasted bread and saying there is enough of variety of breads, yet the other day another employee told us, it is not an issue to order from menu, and suddenly we had toasts for breakfast, which seemed to be a problem the previous days. Few of the employees were rather rude but even due to some disorganization and confusion, there were some employees who were always willing to help. In overall, employees at the SkyBeach were doing well - theres not much to criticize. The Beach Club together with Paranga might need some improvements. More often than not, it took them long and the waitresses at the beach did not seem they would care about you or your needs. Special thanks to Jamimmah, Nicolas, the nice guy from Nigeria and the other one always wearing a suit and a face-shield (dont recall their names unfortunately) , as they all do their job perfectly and ensured our experience at the Club Lounge was worth it. Also the team of boys working at the Narcis bar were doing their job the way they should be and were well-organized. The hotel definitely needs to work out some issues, mainly when it comes to SERVICES and organization. Thankfully, there were people, Ive mentioned, who made our stay fabulous and should be praised accordingly.

We stayed here for a week and overall had a reasonably good experience. The hotel is not beach side as pictures imply, but you can walk to a small private (sectioned off) beach area near the hotel. There is only one swimming pool outdoors which you can use unless you have a Suite or pay 50 euros for the day to reserve a space on the roof top pool. The pool-side service is poor with staff not asking for orders or not enough present. Our room had a mini-bar fridge (absent of any mini bar items) which was not working and despite multiple requests it was never fixed or replaced the whole stay which meant we couldn't keep a few items cold in the room. The gym location was via the Spa and uncoordinated opening hours and strange rules meant access to the gym in the early morning was a problem. Not a 5-Star experience.

I booked this place for a special occasion thinking it would be up to the usual standards of this hotel group which if I'm honest it wasn't, Don't get me wrong as a long term Platinum member I suppose there is a danger of making comparisons with other hotels within this group.
On arrival we were met by a friendly receptionist who allocated us our room bearing in mind we had just been traveling all day Planes, trains & automobiles you know the drill and we all just wanted some respite, on entering the room the smell of dampness was overwhelming all of the bedding felt tacky and damp so as a Chronic asthmatic this was like the worse situation.
My daughter called reception and asked could we be moved to another room and was told at first there were no other rooms until the next day unless we upgraded at another 150euros a night! we were so tired we left it as that, but unfortunately I did have an Asthma attack that night and none of us got much sleep!
The next day I explained to the staff what had happened and insisted that unless they moved us immediately we would be checking out it was only then did we get any response from the management we were moved to the next floor above to an appropriate room.
In Summary of this particular hotel the top 2 floors are in fact the Intercontinental hotel I am familiar with a Rooftop Pool/Bar/rest plus the Club Lounge and rooms and prices that reflect that.

What is the question? This seems to be a statement. I have no idea if the old city is better than St Julians, it is just different. It is certainly not a short cab ride away.
