Reviews summary

Guests have consistently lauded Verdi St George's Bay Marina for its exceptional service, with staff across various departments earning praise for their friendly and professional demeanor. The hotel's atmosphere is generally considered pleasant, offering cozy rooms and beautiful vistas, although some guests have remarked on the outdated decor and the occasional loud music by the pool. The amenities, including multiple pools and restaurants with sea views, are a hit among visitors, despite some criticisms regarding the dated furniture. Many reviewers appreciate the hotel's value, citing the affordable parking, competitive rates, and inclusive breakfast, even though a few were disappointed that not all rooms offered the expected views. The hotel's prime location is a highlight for travelers, who enjoy the easy access to the ocean, beaches, and local attractions, all while relishing the serene environment. Cleanliness is another strong point, with guests impressed by the well-maintained rooms and facilities, though again some furnishings are noted to be old-fashioned. Noise is typically not an issue, apart from occasional construction sounds. Lastly, while the sea view rooms are celebrated for their comfort and tidiness, the decor and furniture could use updating.

1. Check-in/Check-out: 5/5
Super friendly check-in. Michael (was he a separate concierge?) was amazing on explaining what is what and answered all of our questions and more.

2. Rooms (cleanliness, amenities) 5/5
No comments, good, big, clean rooms.

3. On-premise restaurants: 5/5
Had lunch in a café and then also had dinner TWICE at Bull and Caviar (see separate review for the restaurant). Breakfast had plenty of choices and was good.

4. Pool area: 5/5
Nice multiple pools- you can use neighbor’s property infinity pool. Being there in October only one pool bar for food and drinks was open, which was enough. The main guy at the bar was very friendly

5. Service: 5/5

Notes:

1)One of the main reasons to chose this property was the proximity to a beach that was not rocky. Lesson learned. The public beach, albeit a few minutes walk from the property, was pretty dirty, and the water had those gasoline circles since it is a Bay and boats are right there. It has nothing to do with the property, but just be aware. Malta, in general, has only rocky beaches, and for some, it might be a negative.

2)There is a huge construction site right across from the hotel. A new Hard Rock residences and a hotel is being built there. The construction itself did not really affect our stay.

3)The “Downtown” area right next to the public beach is alive at night and has a bit of a spring break feel. Again, just an fyi. Good shops and some great restaurants are in the middle of that debauchery.

Overall weighted score: 5.0 out of 5.0

Would we come back? To Malta itself? Maybe. Somewhere closer to Valetta.

Dear KonstantinTheGuest, Thank you very much for your detailed and glowing review! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that our team members, particularly Michael, were able to make a positive impression on your experience with friendly and helpful service. I'll be sure to pass along your compliments to him and our bar staff as well! We’re pleased to know that you found our rooms spacious and clean, enjoyed your dining experiences at our café and Bull and Caviar, and appreciated our pool area’s variety and ambiance. It’s always our goal to provide a relaxing and memorable stay, and your feedback motivates us to keep up the high standard. We appreciate your notes on the local area as well. While some aspects of the nearby beach and construction are beyond our control, we always strive to keep our guests informed and make your stay as comfortable as possible. Malta’s unique blend of culture and coastline can sometimes come with surprises, and we’re grateful for your understanding and perspective. Thank you again for your feedback and for choosing to stay with us. Should you decide to return to Malta, whether to our property or closer to Valletta, it would be our pleasure to welcome you back! With Sincere regards Fabian Zammit Hotel Manager

We chose the Marina Hotel for our 10 night winter break based on the good reviews on Trip Advisor – we were not disappointed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We booked a deluxe room direct with the hotel and enjoyed a number of benefits:
20% of all food and drink purchased in the hotel
Free mini bar replenished each day
Upgraded toiletries
And a nice room with superb sea views.

The breakfast buffet is excellent with a great choice and we enjoyed meals in the various restaurants. We loved café 24 and used this a few times in the evening when we wanted something lighter and casual. The cakes in Café 24 are fabulous and very addictive.

We liked the position of the hotel with the bus stop outside to Valletta. The buses are almost empty at the hotel stop but as you get further into St Julians and Sliema they are very full. The nearest bus stop when you return is San Giljan which means a walk mostly downhill but not an issue for us even in our 70’s.

The staff at the hotel are a real asset from the reception staff, the ladies and gentlemen who kept our room sparkling clean and the lovely staff in the breakfast room – they all have a smile for you. I must also mention the staff in the restaurants and café 24. They are all very professional giving excellent service but very friendly.

A super hotel and whilst we have enjoyed other hotels in the past in St Julians we feel that this one has the edge.

Dear euro26, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review following your recent stay with us. We are so thrilled that you had such a fabulous stay with us and many thanks for recommending us. It is wonderful to know that you found our Hotel perfectly positioned in the lovely St Julian's and well connected via buses to our Capital City Valletta. We are also pleased to read that you enjoyed the breakfast and the meals in the various restaurants within the Resort. It is a true delight to learn that you loved our coffeeshop, Café 24, and that you often went there for a light and casual dinner. It is in fact the ideal place to start or finishing the day. The well renowned homemade cakes in Café 24 are indeed an addiction for all palates. Thank you also for complimenting us on the professional and yet friendly service provided by our Team; they are absolutely our main asset and deserve every word of praise. We truly appreciate your feedback and will proudly share your kind words with all of them. We very much look forward to welcoming you again soon to the Marina Hotel during your next visit to Malta. Friendly large hotel resort with ample space in the room and a large balcony. The hotel provided a delicious birthday cake for my boyfriend on arrival which made him feel very special! The location is a nice short walk to everything you need. Due to the time of year we stayed (first week in Jan) some parts of the hotel which are probably only used in Summer looked in a slight state of disrepair and needed some love-but I'm sure that happens before the summer. I'm not sure St Julian's would be the perfect location for families with children as it has a very lively night life scene with more strip clubs that you could count! However the hotel does cater for children with swimming pools and tennis courts etc.

Myself, mum and sister stayed in a family room with two queen beds with a beautiful view of the bay and returned yesterday. The hotel is in a great location and looks nice. We arrived from our flight from Gatwick at around 1.30pm so we had to wait for our room to be ready. We used this time to walk to the spa to book some massages for during our stay. We were shocked to find that they did not have a single appointment for any of us for our entire three day stay. (Visiting end of February you wouldn’t expect a ‘spa’ hotel to not have availability and this is why we choose this hotel). When it was time to check into our room, we mentioned this to the front desk and they said they would inform their supervisor and get back to us with anything they could do. We never received a phone call. On the next day, after returning from the marina, we found our room had been ‘cleaned’ but actually only one bed was made and the glasses and coffee cups had not been washed and coffee/tea had not been replenished. We called reception and they sent some up straight away. On our departing morning, we called up to ask for a later check out until 4pm. We were told we could have this but it would cost 10 euro per hour. When I explained the two incidences before, they told us that we could have only 1 extra hour free but we still had to pay 30 euros. There was no attempt to rectify or apologise for anything and we found this pretty bad, however we paid it, checked out, had a pleasant trip in Malta, but would certainly not return to this particular hotel again.

We stayed here off peak season in November 2019. The hotel was a great location and had delicious breakfast options, as well as multiple different lunch and dinner options on property. The car service booked through the hotel to and from the airport was flawless, convenient and average pricing. Jimmy was the best driver!
The rooms themselves had an older feel and bit of a stench to them but mostly clean.

Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort is a very nice hotel with great pool facilities close to party district in St Julian’s. The rooms are relatively spacious and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the restaurants offers various food with large portions - we often shared three lunch meals for the whole family of five. The breakfast was great, except that the girls missed pancakes. Many restaurants in the hotel area gives you great opportunities to find food that suits the whole family. On the downside the housekeeping, especially the room cleaning, was sometimes quite bad and we had problems communicating with the cleaning staff. In general we really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed one night at this hotel. To start of with, this hotel does not have a spa, or indoor pool, as you need to walk to a completely different hotel to use their facilities, which is not mentioned anywhere when you book. Secondly, the rooms are very old and would need a good clean (see photo attached of our balcony)

We wanted to order food to our room. They charge you 5EUR to have it delivered although the prices on the menu has already been increased due to the roomservice cost. Doesn't make any sense when the restaurant is in the same building. What disappointed us the most was the fact that we explained to the lady during checkout about these things, and her response was to laugh at us and not acknowledge our feedback. The hotel has good potential and the staff, most of them, were very friendly, however it is a pity that no one wants to listen to your costumers.

Just back after a weeks stay on the hotel. And overall we had a really nice experience.

The room was big and very clean, with a lovely sea view balcony. The beds were good and the house staff provided fresh towels every day. I loved the dolce gusto coffee maker, and the staff also left fresh capsules for the machine and bottles of water every day.

The breakfast was extremely good and the service was excellent. We also ate at the Italian restaurant and the steakhouse at the hotel. Again really good food and excellent service.

In fact only one place we didn’t get good service and that was extremely noticeable in contrast to the excellent service everywhere else. We had lunch at the 24 cafe on arrival. We waited first 15 minutes for our drinks and then again 30 minutes for dry and tasteless (and expensive) sandwiches. A second order of drinks never arrived - they only made it to the bill. Don’t go there!

The pool area is very nice too - especially the pool outside the spa, and it is lovely to swim in the ocean outside the hotel. The hotel provides towels for beach and pool.

We would definitely stay at the hotel again.

This is essentially a very nice hotel and if on holiday you tend not to leave Hotels, you’ll love it.

Good points
All rooms seem to overlook the bay and have good balconies.
Pool areas very nice, plenty of sun loungers, clean and modern
Restaurants seem very good, reasonably priced and much better than anything in the bay. The breakfast balcony is particularly lovely.
Staff excellent – always helpful and smiley

Down sides.
Location – not great. Jet2 describes St Georges bay as ‘lively’ which means slightly seedy, noisy, lots of building work, booming bars and full of high rise tower blocks. The beach is a city beach (said with a Sean Connery Accent…) so not the cleanest. If you like your beach sunbathing or pizza’s in the pub with booming music and 75” TVs blaring, you’ll love it this area.
Hotel room bathrooms are getting tired.
Hotel breakfast food is very average and they desperately need a HOT water Urn to try and alleviate the queues for the hot drinks machine. (breakdowns cause chaos!) There is space in the dining area for additional machines but they squeeze the 2 existing machines into an already busy area.

TOP TIPS
Malta’s bus service is pretty good. You can get a 14 bus from outside the hotel which takes about 20minutes to get to the Valletta ferry or a further 10minutes to get to the Valletta bus station where you can change for other tourist hot spots such as Mdina and Marsaxlokk. Buses can get very busy and I spent 30minutes standing getting to Mdina - in April. Hire cars are only for the VERY brave as the roads/parking look horrific. TOP TIP – the 2 euro bus ticket(cash or card) seems to be valid for 2 hours so you can use them to get your connecting bus. Getting a bus back to the hotel doesn’t appear quite so easy – we never did it as we got off just past Spinola bay and walked- as I believe the bus does a loop before driving past the hotel again. (Spinola bay is quite nice as is Marsaxlokk although not by Greek standards)

Disappointed in Malta overall as although it has areas of stunning architecture there is a lot of sprawling concrete blocks, massive traffic issues, too many cruise ships docked and is generally mobbed.
