Detailed Reviews
Good location. Bus stops nearby for the reliable local bus service (buy a travel card from nearby shops to get into Valetta, where parking is difficult). Bus from airport then to St. Julian's might avoid an expensive taxi journey.
Others have mentioned the good breakfast buffet.
Car parking, also mentioned is either €8 per day, or less on the open air car park, except at weekends.
Two points to note: firstly the swimming pool is probably not suitable for children unless they are strong swimmers, there is no "shallow end" and the pool is all one depth, around 1.5 metres.
Secondly, ordinary rooms DO NOT have a kettle/ tea-coffee making facilities. Take your travel kettle, if you still have one, there was a small fridge and near the lift an ice machine (tap water isn't nice to drink).
We didn't eat at the evening buffet, there are many interesting restaurants in the area to suit most tastes
Would we stay here again ? Yes, but will take a travel kettle !

The entrance lobby is very nice and the staff are all nice and friendly.
You have to pay for parking €8 a day. You have to pay for tea and coffee in your room (in fact €3 a day to have the tea and coffee replimished).
The room is functional but dated, the bathroom very nice. Only one seat on the balcony, if there's two of you, one will have to stand.
There is a small pool area, you have to pay for a towel to use at the pool, so take your own. The facilities in the changing rooms are poor with no lockable lockers and a broken bench. If you want to use the sauna or steam it's €6 (there's a theme here)
Breakfast is very nice, with a good selection.
We had no hot water for a day but it was rectified (without any apology or explanation)
The location of the hotel is very good, close to everything but parking is a nitemare, Unless you pay.
The hotel is 3 Star at best.

Dear Peter, Thank you for sharing the experience of your recent stay with us. We have noted your comments related to the tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms and we would like to say that contrary to your comment these are supplied free of charge just by asking for them at reception. We charge 3 Euros per day for replenishing the tea and coffee themselves and not for the facilities for making them. With regards to the lack of hot water, this only happened during the first half of the day on a Sunday. Technical issues happen everywhere, even at home and most of the time they are unexpected and could prove challenging to sort out especially on a Sunday. Contrary to your remark, towels for use in the pool are free; we only take a returnable deposit. With regards to the parking, as you remarked yourself, parking in this area is a nightmare but for a small payment of 8 Euros per day your car will be securely parked in our 24H manned car park. As for your comment that we are not 4 stars this is only your opinion, but reviewers themselves have rated us 4 stars as could be seen from the rating on Trip Advisor, were most of are 4 out of 5. Nonetheless, we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Thank you for staying with us and we look forward to host you again in your upcoming stay in Malta. Truthfully, DM

Most aspects are very good, the biggest let down was the evening buffet meal, the selection was poor, the food temperature very low. On average 6 people per night would use the service, maybe that tells you something.
The standard rooms do not have a sea view, despite the travel agents confirmation.
To upgrade to a sea view runs to 25 Euros per night. Bit much.
The central air con was turned over to heating, which was too much, had to sleep with the sliding door open, not ideal.
Ideal location for night life, but too far away for easy access to Valletta, you are on the end of the tour pickups, so first in last out.
Wouldn't stay here again.

Dear I3761BEgerrym, Thank you for taking the opportunity to share your feedback with us. We were pleased to read that you had an enjoyable stay. However, please allow us to apologise for the quality of dinner. This is certainly not the impression we would like to leave. As such, we appreciate this being brought to our attention as it allows us to learn and improve our services. As for your comment about easy access to Valletta, our hotel is found approximately 25 min bus ride away. Nevertheless, we hope that you had an enjoyable time exploring the island. I came to Malta with my 86-year-old mother for 10 days. Her mobility is very poor and I was worried about how we would cope with her wheelchair getting about. The hotel staff couldn't do enough to help, always friendly and happy to help with anything.
The breakfast was excellent with such a wide selection to choose from. Tables from where guests had already eaten before were cleaned straight away, Although they were clearly short staffed they just got on with their job ready with a friendly smile. I will definitely be coming back again to this hotel and location, I really can't understand some of the negative feedback left, I'm guessing they are the kind of people you always find on holidays who will just look for things to moan about.

Sadly made a big mistake booking this hotel. It boasted 4 star quality definatley not.
We checked in on 29th August with high hopes. The temperatures in Malta really exeeded our expectation with top 90c every day with around 85% humidity which is no fault of hotel but lack of aircon in dinning room made it really uncomfotable it took a complaint from a guest in hotel for them to put it on.
There was the lack of facilities which the hotel advertised which was one of the reasons we booked this hotel. No indoor pool available or spa and wellness centre or hot tub and gym also no garden and the lounge in reception way too small for the size of hotel, most of the time full of arrivals waiting to check in to there rooms and departures waiting for transport to airport. The bar in this lounge is serviced by a small outside bar attached to hotel which in the evening played the most horrendous pounding music. With regards to the restaurant Antonios sounded a nice place to eat but was a run of the mill large buffet restaurant the food was average and most of the time cold which was not appetizing and a shame they even had stacks of plates in warmers on the buffet but guess what all the plates were cold as warmers were not switched on so even if you were lucky enough to get hot food soon went cold on cold plates. There was an outdoor pool on the roof which was way too small with sometimes overcrowded. I do feel we paid too much for this hotel which we had booked B/B and paid for evening meal each night I can say your restaurant staff are amazing and work really hard as do the room attendants. So feel it was a costly mistake to stay at Golden Tulip

Dear ChristineW36, Thank you for taking the time to share your review with us. We appreciate your valuable feedback as it helps us identify the areas where we can improve our guest's experience. We were disappointed to learn of the shortcomings you experienced and would like to apologise if we have caused you any inconvenience. Nonetheless, with regards to the 4 stars rating, the Malta Tourism Authority is responsible for hotel ratings and they check our property regularly. Additionally, on another most popular review platform, we have 1810 reviewers and they rated us 4.1 out of 5 and on another very very popular booking platform, we are rated 8.1 out of 10 (which equals 4.05 out of 5 out of 2985 reviewers), so this shows that the reviewers themselves rate us over 4 stars. We trust that you will take the opportunity to use our hotel again in the future. Yours Sincerely, DM

Just a short drive from the airport in a busy yet quiet location you find everything you need for a holiday on Malta. We stayed for 6 nights and it was a good base for all our day trips even to Gozo Island. The view on the sea from our room on the 6th floor with a big balcony was just great. Also from the breakfast room you have a lovely view on the sea. The small beach is a five minutes’ walk away. The bars, restaurants and the cinema, too. The car park next door that belongs to the hotel is free of charge, you just have to validate the parking ticket at the reception each time you want to exit. The breakfast buffet offers everything from English Breakfast to Arabic delights as well as continental favorites. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. The room is ok and had a good size, no carpet what I like and the bathroom was spacious and clean. The water pressure though was most of the time very low and therefore tricky to wash long hair. But for showering still good enough. The wooden doors in the room are dated and in need of an update soon. The beds were comfortable and the TV had lots of channels in English, German, French, Italian and Arabic and more. The room also had a table and chair. I definitely would stay in the same hotel again. In front of the hotel is the bus stop for the Hop on Bus tours. It’s easy to drive around Malta. I just recommend a very small car. We also drove to Valletta and parked the whole day at the MCP Car Park for less than 10 Euros.

Stayed here for a week in January 2023. paid a extra 91 Euros for a junior suite inc room tax
This was very good value as the room is much bigger and has two balconies on the corner of the hotel facing the sea. ROOM 210
registration was quick and straightforward. breakfast was included with British airways holidays and was Buffet style with around 100 things to choose from including a Arabic food cart and a omelette station made to your liking in around 5 mins on average . ate once in the hotel one evening and ws great value for 19.95 euros
Had two minor housekeeping problems but dealt with promptly
a plug that would not seal and debris dropped on the the balcony but not serious.....180+ places to eat within walking distance . would stay again

I stayed with my wife for 4 nights in this Hotel. The room we had was a superior one with a small balcony. The room was quite clean as well as the bathroom and the tub shower.
No drinks in the minibar, no complimentary bottles of water from the second day.
The buffet breakfast was served in a large room with a panoramic view, although this could be much improved in the quality of what is offered.
Many facilities were closed due to the low season and few customers.
Good hotel so far , in need of a refresh. Excellent location a few steps from the sea and from the center of Paceville, St Julian's.

We stayed for a very short 1 night stay. Check in was flawlessly. The disappointment was the dinner as selection was very poor. The hot section had only Potato roast and that was uneatable, two pasta dishes (tomato and white salmon sauce) both where also uneatable and tasteless and a sea bass that was not bad. The other disappointment comes to the breakfast. The chefs are outsourced as it was from a different catering company and clearly identified by the logo on there uniforms. I opted to take an omelette and I visited the omelette station. The chef is on big need of people skills. The chef was in a clear argument with a guest prior to serving me as she wanted some additional cheese in the omelette. My turn was similar. I requested a mushroom and onion omelette and politely asked for some tomatoes to be added prior to putting the pan to heat. The reply was next time think before!!! anyhow I waited for my omelette to get ready and the chef promptly asked me i needed something?i replied i am waiting for my omelette. The chef promptly replied go to your place and come again. Once again where are people skills!!.
My checkout time should have been at 11. at 10:15 my door knocked despite the do not disturb sign is hang out on the door. I opened and i was just told you need to move out as it is soon check out time. I advised that i had an extended checkout time then there was no sign of reply just that the room attendant just left. I feel that since my last visit, this property service seem to be deteriorating.

For my second visit to Malta I chose Sant Julian's, mainly because of many super hotel deals.
Although all 5* hotels were like 60% off, I decided for Vivaldi hotel.
The area is torn down and dark, many shops and bars are closed or shut down, with litter and dirt everywhere. It was pretty dead the whole time as was the hotel. Apart from this, the hotel itself was clean and ok, nothing to complain about. For the price paid, I was even surprised how good the breakfast was, except the coffee and milk (white water) from the machine Although I would expect a little bit more quality and selection, it was fine for my long weekend stay.
The worst thing was the room's furniture, which dates at least 35 years ago, and the insulation of the room (I could hear next room's TV). Why they assign several rooms together in an empty hotel?
The best thing however was the newly refurbished bathroom.
It would have been nice to enjoy a room with a frontal sea view, a better WiFi connection and simpler TV remote control where one could have chosen directly the desired channel, rather than scrolling up and down through 100+ options. By the way, no Spanish channels visible!
The staff were all helpful and attentive, but need to improve their language skills. Many nearly speak any English...
The housekeeping and maintenance must improve too!
All in all regular stay, really nothing special.
I would stay here again only if the price was low and and off season.
Tip: Bus 14 to Valletta runs alongside the hotel. Fare 1.50€ with unlimited transfers for 2 hours! Better exact fare due to Covid!

Dear Ludwig70, Thanks for contributing to this community and for sharing your feedback about us. We are sorry to hear the coffee at breakfast was not as expected. Your comment was shared with our restaurant manager for investigation. We were also sorry to read that you did not like the hotel's location. Unfortunately, there is not much we can do about this, but the property's location is well-described on all online booking platforms and also pinned on the online maps so that potential guests could check online the type of area we are in and hence, avoid any disappointments. With regards to a simpler TV remote, as you mentioned, we have a large number of channels and therefore, it would be very difficult to have a remote control with a button for every channel as it would be very big and uncomfortable to handle. As for our front office staff, contrary to your comment, please note that all of our staff speak English fluently as this is part of our national school's curriculum since the primary stages and therefore, English is our second language in Malta learnt since childhood.
