Feel Diamond have been slightly let down on the refurbishment front as some of the other hotel rooms looked very plush, the kitchen cupboards smelt slightly musty when opened like a rotting wood smell - however everything you would expect within the room.
The hotel itself is lovely, however, don’t get caught out, upon arrival, we were requested to put €150 on hold on a card, being people that live by their means, this meant that €150 of our spending money went straight away! The receptionist said this was to cover if we ate/drank in any bars (this DOES NOT include the SKYBEACH Bar) we always pay as we go & the prices in the hotel were extortionate, but she was adamant it be that amount, a couple of days past & I approached again & she said about reducing it but it we would lose 20% discounts etc.. I continued that I wanted the hold cancelled, she continued & advised it will take X amount of days to be back in my account.. It’s been 2 weeks & still €150 has not been refunded.. We stayed at Santa Barbara Tenerife in February who only took 0.01 cent!
Be careful & don’t get caught out like we did - maybe ask to pay as you go or a reduced price!
Diamond suites are located above the Intercontinental hotel and it’s worth noting that check in is at 1600 and unlike other Diamond properties they don’t’ seem to do early check-ins . They also request a 30 Euro per night hold on a credit card, though I did notice that this was actually released after about a week, but worth noting.
To reach the Diamond accommodation you need to take a lift to 7th Floor and then along a corridor to the Diamond Reception area and another lift either up or down to your floor. Bit odd, but no real hassle.
We were in a one bedroom family and it was modern, bright and really spacious. Yes, it faced the road area and therefore due to the building works opposite ( they’re building a new VOCO / IHG Hotel) it could be noisy at times during the day but from inside it was quiet so it didn’t really bother us as we were out all day. It also afforded afternoon, early evening sun.
The apartment was really well equipped for a self catering holiday with all the facilities we needed. The kitchen area was good and had ample prepping and cooking area. Yes, the oven could do with a deep clean but other than that the area was just as we needed with a large fridge freezer and plenty of sockets (which are UK 3 pin sockets) as well as USB charging ports. Cleaning is every few days and there is air conditioning and a safe as standard. Just to note that it doesn’t have any outdoor drying area but has a retractable line over the bath.
There is a roof top pool area which had lots of space and beds available as well as a bar area. And you can also access a beach area at St Georges Bay, as part of the Intercontinental. We didn’t use any of the Intercontinental facilities or restaurants but they are available to all.
It is within easy reach of the local buses to access all parts of the island for a mere 2.50 Euro pp. and there is a good supermarket (Welbees) as well as other shops close by including the Bay Shopping Centre immediately opposite the hotel.
Even though it is busy, bit of a party area in the evenings, we liked the location for its ease of access to be able to walk along the promenade area to Sliema and beyond or to head north along the coastal paths to St Paul's.
It was our first visit to Malta and we would happily return to Diamond Suites on Malta for another visit.
Calling numberous times I was promised blankets and room heaters that were provided after speaking with 5 different people and 2 hours later
Diamond resorts I would like to know why we are treated to the servant quarters of the resort when we pay royally as members every dues cycle? It is unacceptable to show pictures and mislead members to stay on an international holiday in such meager accommodations !
Quality of the apartment was fair at best. It was not secure as the window on the balcony could not look and although attended to quickly, the repair was ineffective.
The safe is a small box in the wardrobe but is not bolted or attached to anything, so very easy to pick it up and take it away.
Bathroom door handle came off; bathroom door would not shut due to wood at side prematurely contacting frame. Door from corridor had visible gap at lower portion of side so corridor could be seen.
On the plus side, kitchen equipment was good, enough plates, cutlery, glasses, etc. Fridge worked well. Bed very comfortable, and adequate storage.
The Intercontinental Hotel, who have the task of giving the keys for the apartments, are excellent, but it is not for them to deal with the admin of Diamond Resorts. The hotel facilities are great, with swimming pools (outdoor and indoor), saunas, steam rooms, spa, and several restaurants and bars, where the service and food are excellent.
It is interesting that RCI site has no reviews of this resort. So far I have not been able to place one, although that maybe my difficulty with technology!
The lift also broke on out floor and we had to use the fire exit but it was fun.
Hotel is great though, very big so can get lost, they have a rooftop pool, bar and a few restaurants inside. The beach is a few metres away and there is a closed off section available to hotel customers.
Lots of building work to other properties but with two sliding doors, there was no noise for us.
Great large well stocked supermarket a short walk from hotel by main bus stops. Plenty of good street food outlets just across road bu Bay Street shopping mall. Since our last visit 7 years ago the area has and is still being built up with high rise buildings so evidence of cranes everywhere.
All in all we managed to get a nice relaxing holiday but are informed that after 31st Dec this year that Diamond will cease to use this property
